Exactly that would be f***ing terryifying if you were caught in the middle of it.
Bloody great when hear from family in Oz about the behavior of football fans. The longer the FFA and the club allow this to carry on the worse its going to get.Just how they can justify some the images from their site while still claiming we dont condone it beats me.

Can see this becoming very messy if the wrong teams end up meeting in the finals.

You would think the CEOs of other clubs would be raising this as an issue because it affects the profile of the whole league

You would think so wouldnt you especially when you see reports comparing things to those that went on in the old NSL.

You have to question just how serious they are about stopping flares also, seems to be a lot of talking but little action..

Very surprised that the RBB haven't re-worked the chorus of Naughty by Nature's "OPP" yet...

This appeared in todays SMH,written by a league reporter but another example of why the FFA should act.If they dont then things are only going to get a lot worse.

Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop needs to read this and act or risk his new sport becoming a code that women should not attend. This is the untold story to the disgraceful behaviour of some of the Western Sydney Wanderers fans - one that highlights what a bunch of uncouth thugs they are. Members of the Red and Black Bloc decided to pick on - and by that, I mean abuse in the most vile of ways - my Channel Nine sports reporter colleague, Erin Molan. Their conduct was so bad Molan had to can a live cross. Her camera crew assessed that the situation was unsafe. They went to Parramatta to do a live cross last Saturday night and when they tried to vox pop the Red and Black Bloc at the Woolpack Hotel before kick-off, not one person would answer a question - that's when Molan was the subject of the abuse. It started with one fan, then others joined in. Molan's camera crew have told me the language was disgusting, filthy and very aggressive. ''The guys were yelling loudly,'' one of the crew members said. ''One then got personal with Erin and her appearance.'' Molan has told bosses at Nine News she felt threatened and very upset by what happened. The story was going to be a positive piece, as you can see by the script Molan was going to deliver live to sports anchor Roz Kelly.

The problem you have got with this grenade is that it is going to be extremely difficult to put the pin back in. Any action the FFA take and you just know the RBB are going to cry about backlash and picking on them.
Rock - FFA/Gallop - hardplace. I think the best course of navigation is to get the club themselves to try do the job. It would then give the appearance of 'less draconian' (not that I am saying any action they would take would be draconian)

I think if it were me, I would actually consider some really tough measures. I understand some teams overseas have had to play in empty stadiums at home?

I think the WSW atmosphere looks good for the most part. A few nutters is fairly normal in large groups and their jumping around this season, along with other fan groups, has made the YF look pretty boring. Granted, there's not been much to shout about.

Can't actually see the issue with flares if you are not chucking them on the park or lobbing them at someone's head.

Funny thing is....They are a first year "manufactured" club.

Not a 120 year old club that someone can claim to be passionate about...Just giving the dregs of the western Sydney area "something to do".

I don't see a problem with guns, as long as you're not firing them at anyone.

I don't see a problem with knives, as long as you're not stabbing anyone with them.

I think fireworks look cool, but don't think people should be allowed to set them off at games "as long as they're not aimed at someone's head or on the pitch"

That and, oh yeah...they're illegal. Allowing them into the ground means its only a matter of time before someone does something stupid with them, even just throws them on the pitch, that's why I bought up the rather extreme guns, knives and fireworks examples - to show the flaw in that thinking.

I have to go along with Tegals thinking. In Japan, they don't like you carrying kitchen knives in public. Never mind that Jerry never used them but they arrest you for that. The reason being is the potential for harm. Much like flares, no one got hurt as your said, but the potential is there for someone to get hurt so your statement really is a bit stupid Steve-O

What were they, sparklers?

Funny comment from a cove lad directed at a NRMAIWSW regular (Mack) on our forum (sfcu) defending the trouble up in Newcastle this weekend "humility isn't a weakness you know".

I've lived here a good while & it's one of the funniest things I've heard an Aussie say. Lol.

It's been reported that there was only 2 arrests. If those muppets didn't beat up the guy, it would have been a respectable showing.

The RBB has been fantastic in showing their support and it is only a small minority causing the issues. But the fact they come out and seem to defend the minority is what irks me.

Passion isn't a crime, but flares are!

These are the pyro things. Maybe we can ask for some yellow smoke machines?

This. If the RBB were to turn over the identities of the people causing this trouble to the FFA and police so they can give out (deserved) bans, then I would have much more respect for them. It's the "protecting our own" mentality that annoys me, if people break the spectator code of conduct then they deserve to be thrown out of the ground and receive a ban.

Was a great post on the Sydney boards from the last Derby thread. Someone found a post by one of the WSW 'Capos' from a previous season declaring his undying love for Sydney and talking about getting a Sydney tattoo.

There is a particular thread where people are discussing how supporting sydney FC was a hollow lie and they never felt satisfied but they still went to the games. Luckily, they discovered WSW 3-4 games into the season and from then on they have found their true love.

Interesting stat:

WSW regular season average attendance is only 500 higher than the Nix average during their debut season in 07/08.

Excluding the Sydney derbies they are actually 800 lower!

Granted we had one big attendance in 07/08 at the Adelaide game just before the Galaxy game but I was surprised it was even close considering they won the league and we finished last in 07/08.

Makes me wonder how their attendances might hold up when things aren't going so well.

Part of that though is the fact they have an upwards limit of 20k - they could have sold out twice that to several of their matches.  Plus they've had tremendous away support.

They are an absolute force to be reckoned with.  There's a lot of pretty churlish stuff in this thread, but remember we (Yellow Fever) got LOADS and loads of favourable media coverage in our first year, and we lapped it up the same as they have done.  YF was in the dompost each week pretty much.  In fact it's a sign of how far the club has slipped that the focus on the fans now seems to be on child friendly marches and bouncy castles.

West Sydney have done a great job building a club, team and fan base.  yes they've had some help, and the results mean they've had a lot more people jump on the bandwagon and that shouldn't be forgotten but to come first in your debut year with essentially a team of other teams cast offs, plus Ono, that's pretty awesome stuff.

Ridiculous overreaction.

Do you remember the bottle throwing incident in season 1 and the wrist bands as well to restrict entry into the fever zone?  It comes with the territory and was the same with us, small thing happens, the "hooligan" angle gets sparked up and suddenly 20k well behaved fans are completely ignored and the focus is on one or two idiots and the rest get tarnished with the same brush.

You've got a problem with West Sydney, that much is obvious.  Why I don't know, but your focus on "ethnicity" makes me suspicious.  Undoubtedly they have attracted and will continue to attract a few idiots.  I think that's difficult for them to avoid given the areas from where they draw their support.  I agree they haven't helped themselves with some pretty stupid stuff in the media.

However, until you actually go to a game and see something for yourself instead of relying on an aussie media that is blatantly and in some cases openly anti-football then you have zero credibility on this issue.  This is a great story - I suspect the majority of the negative stuff in this thread is because right now our club looks pretty shit in comparison to theirs.

Which is what?

The point wasn't that we had or hadn't done anything wrong, it's how small things at football matches get blown out of proportion very quickly.  Sam Buckle was on the 6 o'clock news and there was talk of moving the entire fever zone!

West Sydney's success is down to their recruitment. Popovic identified players that would suit his game plan and Gorman was able to deliver them. I do have questions about Gorman's inside knowledge. He was head of the A-League and was privy to all the details of players contracts.

To say they were cast offs is a bit of a misnomer. Yes, a number of players were released by clubs to join WSW but they were all certain starters and would have been again this season. Players like Bridge & Hypen would have been some of the higher earners at their clubs, and could possibly why their clubs were happy to let them go. The move has rejuvenated their careers, I give Popovic a lot of credit for that.

Only player that could really be called as cast off, would be Covic. Victory must be kicking themselves for that.

There has been games this season when they have played 6 imports, 4 Current/Former Socceroos and still have 2 Former Socceroos on the bench. They are not this rag tag bunch of State League players people make them out to be.
