Norwich rumoured to be interested in signing Wood from WBA
According to the Daily Mirror:

CANARIES PLOTTING SWOOP FOR WEST BROM STRIKER
10/4/12

Norwich are leading the race to sign West Brom striker Chris Wood this summer.

The Baggies have loaned Wood this season to Championship duo Birmingham and more recently Bristol City.

The 6ft 2in New Zealand striker, 20, scored 11 goals for Brum and now has three for the Robins.

Canaries boss Paul Lambert has his eye on him as new cover for Grant Holt this summer with Steve Morison out of favour at the Premier League outfit.

But Wood is hot property in the Championship and also has several clubs outside the top-flight after his signature."

Great stuff. 14 goals with a lot of them coming off the bench is a very good return. Lets hope he breaks through into a Prem side next season

Bristol 1 v Hammers 1
Tuesday night game

Was All White v All White with both Wood and Reid playing the full 90.

"City were instantly resurgent and Chris Wood came close to putting them in front with a low shot that had Green scrambling across his goal."

Winston Reid had a good chance to score but got the ball stuck under his feet in the penalty box.

A useful point to help BCFC stay above the relegation spots.

Not much help for the Hammers to get automatic promotion...

Wood played 46' this morning and got an assist as Bristol won 2-0 to officially avoid relegation. Unsure why he got subbed off so early, but good result for the team.

Pity he wasn't on the field when they got a penalty, probably would have taken it.

Played 77 mins in the final game, a 1 all draw against Burnley. 20th out of 24, a solid 9 points form relegation. Wood was not as effective for them as he has been in his other loan outs, 11 appearances, 3 goals

Has anyone caught any of his games in this spell? Just wondering what the reason for the drop off in goals is - I'm thinking it might be simply because bristol City are at the other end of the table to Birmingham so they didn't create as many chances for him. Or has he just been a bit out of form?

Also, thoughts on what might happen with him next year? Will WBA hang onto him and will he get some game time in the Premier League, or will he be loaned out again, or will they just get rid of him completely? I'm not sure he's good enough to be a striker for a mid-level Premier League team, but plenty of Championship teams would be glad to have him.

I was having a few drinks with a Rovers fan whose family are all season holders. He said that Wood is highly rated at Rovers and looks likely to score or make something happen for someone else.

Would love to keep him permanetly t rovers (viewpoint of 3 fans).

Good to see Howieson got on as well in the game. Only got a few minutes... will be looking for him to get a lot more game time next year.

So now that Roy Hodgson is moving onto the England job.  Who will coach WBA and are they likely to keep Wood?  And if not what other clubs could want him?

Think he still has 1 year left on his WBA contract so you'd think he's be able to pick up another loan spell quite easily.

Well this is somewhat old news by now, but I was very interested to hear the rumours sorrounding Chris Hughton's potential move to West Brom following Hodgson's departure. Anyone else see these rumours?

Surely such a move could only mean good things for Chris Wood, given his fantastic form for Birmingham in the first half of the season. Hughton managing West Brom could be a great stroke of luck for the lad.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Michael Chopra has proved that with good supply he will score Championship goals, while New Zealand international Chris Wood has had an outstanding season for Birmingham and Bristol City. A season removed from the glare of the Premiership could provide a wonderful re-boot to Ngog’s career, while Sordell could well prove his partner of the future.

Chris Wood will report back to West Brom for pre season following Steve Clarke's appointment as the clubs new manager. Would like to think Woody has another chance of a crack at PL football now but only has one year left on his contact. Heard transfer rumours that Norwich City are preparing to table a bid for him as well as Brighton.

I hope Woody impresses Clarke, three new WBA manager enough to earn a first team spot and a new contact. He's still very young and has a tremendous amount of both domestic and international experience for someone of his age. The Norwich transfer rumour was in the British press at the weekend, their new manager is Chris Hughton, who brought Woody to Birmingham on loan last season.

Here's hoping Wood can get some premier league game time this season, whether it be with WBA, Norwich or elsewhere.

As a side note, at what point can we say that Wood has developed enough to cut it at premier league level? All the talk for the last couple of seasons has been how these loan spells to league 1 and championship teams will be good for his development, but at what point does this pay off? Would he be better to wait until he's (fingers crossed) banging in goals for fun at championship level, or might it help to throw him in the deep end at premier league level at some point?

I'm curious to know if anyone has an opinion because I haven't been following the English game long enough to get a solid idea of how these things tend to go. Thoughts, anyone? Or is trying to start a discussion on actual footballing matters a little futile in the off season?

I hope he gets a chance too, but with the likes of Peter Odemwingie, Marc Antoine Fortune, Simon Cox and Shane Long all above him in the pecking order at West Brom, game time will be tough. You'd expect the new manager to bring in another striker of his own liking too this summer! The loan spells do well for his confidence, development and reputation, but I'd put money on him either being loaned out to another Championship club this season or moving on somewhere else in a permanent deal. I know he's still young and learning, but I think he's more suited to the Championship level or even Scottish Premier League. Having said that though, there's not much else he should be doing to get game time at West Brom. You must remember that the Premier League is all money, money, money and West Brom could just go and spend £5,000,000 tomorrow on a new striker with PL experience rather then thrower in a youngster like Woody. I'd like to see him at my club Millwall! Great player

It is a big year for him, I think it is the last year of his contract. So he needs to prove his worth or he will be sold in January.

I agree with this (although I'm not a Millwall fan so I don't care about that part.) I think his best shot at playing in the PL is to join a Championship club permanently and get promotoed as their starting striker, rather than getting brought in by WBA. Having said that, the Norwich rumour could have some meat to it because of Chris Hughton and while its hard to imagine Wood starting ahead of the likes of Grant Holt or Steve Morison he might make the bench regularly there. Like UK All White said though, at this stage his skill set looks more suited to a level below the PL than the PL itself.

Norwich would be a good fit for Chris. Dont know how much he'd suit yellow though

However I do agree that the Championship is where he can start to shine. As there he would either attract interedt from above or earn promotion

Soccernet are reporting that a club from Qatar have put in a bid for Odemwingie. If he goes could that be good news for Wood?

WBA signed Markus Rosenberg a couple of days ago, so another striker for Wood to compete with.

I don't think he did enough at the Olympics to justify playing in the EPL any time soon. Not that he was bad but definitely not mobile enough or enough of a goalscoring threat. Another loan for a year I think, and then he's of contract, right?

Romelu Lukaku comes in on a season long loan. That has to be the killer blow for Chris Wood.

Although the article leaves it open as to whether he's being sold or going on loan. He may stay at WBA and go out on loan still: "And the Baggies have since told 6ft 2in New Zealand striker Wood, 20, he can leave either on loan or permanently."

Baggies tranfer rumour site:

Derby to attempt to sign Chris Wood from West Brom
and also Alex Nimely from Manchester City on loan.

#Maybe on loan for chris wood but even that is unlikely, ready for the first team.

#We would never sell chris wood to derby

#We said we'd never sell Shackell to Burnley, but that happened - football's a funny game

#We are not getting loans we are still
missing a left back and 1/2 strikers.
all deals will be pernament.

#Chris wood can go will never be a premiership player

T#hat's rubbish Chris woods quality now and he's only 20

#Crock of crap wood is a cracking player

#I agree that Wood is not good enough. He doesnt have the pace or ability to make it at the top level. He hasnt set the world alight in the lower leagues so he wont in the prem. get a couple of mil and re-invest in a quality forward.

#If chris wood leaves west brom it will only be on loan and anyway its only for experience... hes only 20 in 5 years he could be good... or when odemwingie retires he is back up for long

#Wood won't be in WBA first team this year. Odem,Long,Fortune,Rosenberg,Cox(soon to go) all better. Berahino also progressing at a faster pace than Wood. Would expect him to go out on loan, wouldn't be surprised if he goes permanently

Chris Wood is in talks with Bristol City over a three year contract after West Brom accepted an undisclosed fee for the New Zealand international.

Chris wood is class if he gets the service which he didnt when on loan last season
