Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest | England)

So now that Roy Hodgson is moving onto the England job.  Who will coach WBA and are they likely to keep Wood?  And if not what other clubs could want him?

Think he still has 1 year left on his WBA contract so you'd think he's be able to pick up another loan spell quite easily.

Well this is somewhat old news by now, but I was very interested to hear the rumours sorrounding Chris Hughton's potential move to West Brom following Hodgson's departure. Anyone else see these rumours?

Surely such a move could only mean good things for Chris Wood, given his fantastic form for Birmingham in the first half of the season. Hughton managing West Brom could be a great stroke of luck for the lad.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Should be back to West Brom rather than Bristol... at least for a couple of weeks

That Norwich rumour has been floating around a while, from one thing that was publish like 2-3 months ago.

Here's hoping Wood can get some premier league game time this season, whether it be with WBA, Norwich or elsewhere.

As a side note, at what point can we say that Wood has developed enough to cut it at premier league level? All the talk for the last couple of seasons has been how these loan spells to league 1 and championship teams will be good for his development, but at what point does this pay off? Would he be better to wait until he's (fingers crossed) banging in goals for fun at championship level, or might it help to throw him in the deep end at premier league level at some point?

I'm curious to know if anyone has an opinion because I haven't been following the English game long enough to get a solid idea of how these things tend to go. Thoughts, anyone? Or is trying to start a discussion on actual footballing matters a little futile in the off season?

It is a big year for him, I think it is the last year of his contract. So he needs to prove his worth or he will be sold in January.

Norwich would be a good fit for Chris. Dont know how much he'd suit yellow though 

However I do agree that the Championship is where he can start to shine. As there he would either attract interedt from above or earn promotion

Soccernet are reporting that a club from Qatar have put in a bid for Odemwingie. If he goes could that be good news for Wood?

WBA signed Markus Rosenberg a couple of days ago, so another striker for Wood to compete with.

I don't think he did enough at the Olympics to justify playing in the EPL any time soon. Not that he was bad but definitely not mobile enough or enough of a goalscoring threat. Another loan for a year I think, and then he's of contract, right?

Romelu Lukaku comes in on a season long loan. That has to be the killer blow for Chris Wood.

so any ideas where he might end up this season then, assuming the Norwich rumour doesn't come true?

I'm guessing loaned again, which can only be good if his contract is running out next year.

West Brom putting Wood on the market, Celtic aparently heading the list of interested clubs, with Hull City and Nottingham Forest also in the running.

Not really a surprise, he is near the end of his contract and isn't going to be a first team player this season. Hopefully he stays in the English leagues rather than end up at Celtic.

Celtic would be a guaranteed league winners medal and a place in Europe though 

He has to go somewhere where hes gonna be given game time.

He did so well at Birbingham so its a shame he couldn't have stayed

So hopefully sold to a championship side where he can cement a regular playing spot.

Although the article leaves it open as to whether he's being sold or going on loan. He may stay at WBA and go out on loan still: "And the Baggies have since told 6ft 2in New Zealand striker Wood, 20, he can leave either on loan or permanently."

#I agree that Wood is not good enough. He doesnt have the pace or ability to make it at the top level. He hasnt set the world alight in the lower leagues so he wont in the prem. get a couple of mil and re-invest in a quality forward.

#Wood won't be in WBA first team this year. Odem,Long,Fortune,Rosenberg,Cox(soon to go) all better. Berahino also progressing at a faster pace than Wood. Would expect him to go out on loan, wouldn't be surprised if he goes permanently
