According to the one of the latest posts on the rumour link above, it'll just be a loan deal.

Chris Wood has been linked with a number of clubs (including former club Bristol City) but only on a season long loan deal as Steve Clark looks at Wood as a good prospect for the future after watching his performances for New Zealand at the Olympics. From source close to West Bromwich Albion.

MATCH REPORT WEST BROMWICH ALBION U21’S 3 EVERTON U21’S 1
For the second time in 24 hours the “Baggies” got the better of the toffees as the U21’s beat their opponents convincingly by 3 goals to 1. Saido Berahino got two goals one in each half and was also denied from the penalty spot with Chris Wood getting the other before Shane Duffy grabbing a consolation for the visitors in the last minute.

This new U21 league took shape at West Brom’s training ground on Birmingham Road and as early as the first minute it was the hosts that rattled the cross bar with a header from Chris Wood but the referee spotted a push in the box to award Albion a penalty. Taudul guessed the right way to smother the ball at the first attempt.

Sam Kelly and Apostolos Vellios had a chance a piece unfortunately for them they could not capitalise on their chances before Taudul saved acrobatically to tip away a George Thorn free kick.

On 17 minutes Everton could not contain Albion any longer as Berahino made up for his earlier penalty miss by putting the home side ahead with a great contributing run and assist from Hurst.

The home side had settled down really well and looked a threat everytime they came forward.

Albion twice came close to going further ahead as Romaine Sawyers could only watch as his effort came back off the post then Wood was denied as he saw his effort agonisingly go inches wide.

Berahino was looking to double his tally before the break then a slight response from Everton saw Junior test Keeper with a rasping effort.

HALF TIME

WEST BROM U21’S 1 EVERTON U21’S 0

Taudul had to be alert early in the second half to deny the onrushing Sawyers who went racing towards goal.

Albion scored two goals within 8 minutes of each other, firstly Wood took advantage of some poor Everton defending to waltz around Everton’s Taudul and slot home the second leaving Everton with a mountain to climb.

The nail was finally hammered into Everton’s coffin on 65 minutes as Berahino doubled his tally and guarantee the home side the 3 points.

Chris Wood could have made things look worse only to see his effort crash into the side netting which gave Everton a big let off.

Dufffy made the scoreline look more respectacle to head home in the very last minute of the game to give Everton just a consolation.

This story suggest v likely he's going out on loan again as well down striking ranks at west brom. Millwall a possible destination, but other clubs likely interested. Also mentions his west brom future will probably be settled in January with contract up at end of season. He will have to shake it up in championship next few months to have chance of getting resigned by west brom.

From Millwall site

Millwall are set to complete the signing of 20-year-old striker Chris Wood from West Bromwich Albion initially on a youth loan until 20th November.
The New Zealand international, who has 27 caps and nine goals to his name, netted a hat-trick against The Lions for Birmingham City at St Andrews last season, where he scored nine times in 23 outings.
Chris who has also had loan spells at Barnsley, Brighton and Bristol City, sees this move to The Den as an important one in his career.
He said: "I'm not in the first team picture at West Brom so I'm dying to start playing regular football again.
In January I will give some thought to my longer term future, but for now I'm just looking forward to playing for Millwall and hopefully scoring some goals."
Wood is expected to be named in the squad to face Cardiff City at The Den on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

MILLWALL V CARDIFF 6.45 AM NZ TIME TOMORROW MORNING

Will Chris be in the squad? Millwall website says is quite likely (especially after their 1-4 'mare against Hull on the weekend...).

Interesting fact: Chris' new manager at Millwall, Kenny Jackett has played in NZ - for Watford against the All Whites in three games, May 1982, helping NZ in their final warm-up games before the Spain '82 Finals:

Crowds of up to 21,000 and live on TV. I remember well that great Watford side in preparation for their first top flight season (destined to finish in the top few just behind Liverpool etc the next few seasons). Watford had caught the world's attention after promotion from the fourth tier to the top of English football in just five seasons. Current Auckland resident, father of former All White James and former AW's manager, Keith Pritchett was Kenny Jackett's team-mate on that tour of NZ (Pritchett played for Watford 1976- 1982).

Possibly more internationally famous players in the Watford side were future England strikers Luther Blissett and John Barnes...

Results Watford tour of NZ 1982:

May 23, Christchurch, Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, Crowd:13000 New Zealand 0-1 Watford (John Barnes) Coach: Graham Taylor. 289. Friendly May 26, Wellington, Athletic Park, Crowd: 21000 New Zealand 1-1 Watford (Steve Wooddin - Luther Blissett pen) 290. Friendly May 29, Auckland, Mt Smart Stadium, Crowd: 20000 New Zealand 0-2 Watford (Luther Blissett 2)

Chris not mentioned at all in the BBC match thread, so can't have made any significant contribution...

This seems to be a poor Millwall side - fourth loss from six games so far - 21st of 24 teams and 13 goals conceded...

Still, early days yet - although having seen highlights of their 4-1 thrashing by Hull on the weekend on "The Football League Show" seems unlikely Chris will be provided many chances to score!

    '
Fans on forums mostly posting "Jackett out!", "we've got no money to buy decent players, so what do you expect?", "do well to avoid relegation", "wish I hadn't gone to that game..." etc.
"We're essentially a team built around players from a league lower than Cardiff however you look at it." [except for Chris of course...]

Was at the game. He looked pretty sharp, really skillful for a big fella. Couple of poor first touches, had a couple of shots which weren't great. Very, very good at winning headers in the box, and getting them on target, beating other big players to the ball. His goal was well taken, fell to him at the back post, well directed from a narrow angle. Could have equalised in the 90th, twat Kuszszszszszak did well to block.

Millwall were awful until they went a man down, then they had the measure of Brighton, strangely.

Brighton fans were unreal, amazing traveling contingent.

Pretty good debut.

Turf Moor has been a happy hunting ground for Millwall over the last couple of seasons, hitting three goals in each of the team's two previous visits.
Boss Kenny Jackett will will be hoping that his side can strike it lucky for a third successive season as The Lions head to Lancashire on Saturday eager to kick-start their season.
The players are certainly geared up for this weekend according to new signing Chris Wood, who bagged his first goal for the club in last weekend's 2-1 home reverse by Brighton & Hove Albion.
"I've played at Turf Moor a couple of times before," said West Brom loanee Chris, "And I think I've drawn twice there previously.
It's a nice big pitch and I'm looking forward to playing up there.
It was good to get my first goal last weekend and hopefully that is a sign of more things to come.
Although it was disappointing to lose, I don't think we've played too badly over the last couple of games and we've been creating chances. Hopefully we will be able to able to take the positives from our last couple of matches and build on them against Burnley and get a good result."

Seems like a common theme - gets loaned out to a club, goes on a scoring steak, stops scoring, goes back to WBA, gets loaned out again, hot streak, stops scoring etc.

When you have been loaned out to more clubs than is in a golf bag, it's not surprising he tends to score in streaks. I really think a full time move for him in January is the best idea for him. Becoming obvious his future isn't at WBA.

Yeah looks like his best chance of PL footy is going up with a promoted team. Unless he rips it up in the championship and gets bought by another promoted side

Seems Milwall very keen to sign him permanantly. His WBA contract finishes at the end of the season so I guess January will see if Chris has a long term future at the Baggies as I guess they will want to try and make  a few quid by moving him on in January if he does not feature in their long term plans.

I for one hope he doesn't join the London thugs as they will not be in the PL any time soon.  If he joins a Championship side permanently I'd like it to be one with a realistic chance of being promoted in the next season or two: Leeds, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Bolton etc
