Rapa looking for a coach? Rumour is Pedro was hit up
They have been advertising for a coach to take over from Tvaroh as a development coach and for the 2nd team. Sounds like he is coming from Miramar.

Did you all see Pedro's recent goal in 3.8s (straight from the kickoff) for the Rapa Youth League XI? He was an overage guest player.
d) all of the above
Jackpot
good on the Rapa for trying to bring the standard of football up by all means with in the rules set out by NZF.
it can only make the other teams pull finger and develop better players or acquire them from else where to make CL the top level of football in the region and not just a step up from premier which is what some would like it to be…..
pretty much the face of football has changed from when i first started senior football and we now have a regional comp "team wellington" to replace the national league we used to have, and now a Central league which really needs to hold and develop players for this regional team.
Wellington had more than one club involved in the old national league and so has a history of a great wealth of talent but we only have one team wellington so we need the top grade of the region to be at a high standard to feed this one team and keep talent in the region.
Well this is how i remember the plan being sold to the clubs back in the day.

i Cannot comment as the CL2 proposal as i have not read the proposal as it is not a public document as far as i can see.
and i did not intend to make a philosophy on ($) but on performance and if that takes $ then this is what is needed but i feel is not the only thing required to achieve the performance levels required.

good points
but please remember Rapa is it's own micro environment with low population and great distances to travel that needs to be managed and as far as i know and i am happy to be corrected all the points you bring to the table are being addressed but don't get the same press here as the imports and other items.
As youth development and training facility's not big news compared to imports and chatham cups….
but i can only go on what i have talked to local's from masterton about when i have bumped in to them.
for all i know Carterton and Greytown my feel there youth are not getting opportunities and have some gripes.
this is not the first club in the area to suffer cash injection problems and i am sure it won't be the last
but on a whole as far as the competition goes it is good to have strong teams to challenge the youth to step up to a new level.

Really? I kind of take your point about raising the standard of the league, particularly when they bring in people from outside the area. But think about the things you could do for football in that area with the ridiculous amount of money that has been spent on one team of players who then owe nothing to the area, take the money and move on, leaving what behind? When the money stops, what do they have? If they are lucky maybe a couple more trophies to add to the Chattum Cup that was won. I just don't think a happy medium is being met at all. Why couldn't more of the money be spent on improving training facilities, coaching, work with schools and player production? The bonus is that those things also help attract players. It's good to see a youth national league team happening up there now and that is a good step, but they need to think about effecting the game long term up there to ensure its survival at a decent level when Keinzley's money stops.
Didn't he inject money into the women's game up there years ago?
In the end guys, I take my hat off the Keinzley. He has a club up there that he wants to spend all the money getting results and getting them to national league. It should not be on him to spend money on large scale development, coaching etc just because he has money, for me it looks like a bit of fun for him and to turn around and say Wairarapa have won trophies, who would have thought.... It is his money and he can put it into anything he likes, without him Wairarapa wouldn't even get mentioned when it came to football. I am sure every club would love someone to come in and offer unreal amounts of money...
Had an interesting talk with Heartland Wairarapa chairman Bob Francis [ Chairman of the District Health board, former chairman of the IRB and former Mayor of Masterton]. He was saying they are going to take Wairarapa United under there wing this year onwards to help Phil Keinzley. These are the facts as he sees them on Phil.
1] Phil took over Wairarapa United 10 years ago when the Wairarapa had no representative in Wellington competitions and started them of in Capital 2.
This year Wairarapa United will have teams in men's CL and Capital 2 and women's capital 3 plus there will be 3 other senior men's teams, one u'17 team and three college teams in Wellington competitions.
2] total playing numbers are triple to what they were 10 years ago , equalling rugby as the number one code.
3] New artificial going ahead on the main rugby ground with covered seating for 6000 . To be completed by the 1st April 2015. The Masterton District council are only going ahead with this due to the success of Wairarapa United to give the club a quality home ground.
4] Phil Keinzley personally has been funding a full time development coach for coaching in the schools etc at no cost to anybody else.
5] He attracts more positive local media attention than all other codes together, which has attracted a lot of outside sponsors.
6] He currently volunteers forty hours a week to football including coaching five days a week coaching all three Wairarapa United teams plus run his own companies.
7] He puts his own money up on top of this.
Bob tells me he will take any calls from anybody who questions the good Phil has done for Wairarapa football.

I endorse all of those sentiments. I remember when he first got involved, when his daughter (Michelle I think?) was playing. He was just a bloke that wanted to chip in.
He is also a bloody nice bloke to have a beer with.
well done to Phil
awesome to hear my informants in Masterton were telling the truth and one of them also mentioned how phil is so approachable for a beer……
Great small town community spirit like Gisborne used to have back in the day…..but it also needs a lot of volunteers to make the magic happen so lets hope these people in the Rapa get some appreciation and not just bad press about money thrown at them….

This. Central/ACFC in Auckland does things their way, Rapa in the Central League does it theirs. If there were another two dozen clubs in the country with the same go-ahead drive, New Zealand grassroots football might actually get somewhere soon. Yeah right.
i don't want to turn this into another anti ACFC/Central thing, and to be honest I am tired of those anyway but i just wanted to say plenty of clubs have people with drive and a go-ahead attitude but most of these places don't have the money to really register a blip on the radar - that's where Central and Wairarapa differ - and i'm not saying that's bad - just as you said - different.
Central 2 league proposal binned
What!
Common sense for a change, what's happened at CF?
Just a wee correction to the facts. Point one: Wairarapa United in fact had been promoted to the former Capital Premier Division which was then the top league in Wellington before Phil took over in 2002. Bob was nearly right. But yes can't fault Phil's commitment.

They definitely dropped out of Wellington for a season or two. They were in Cap 1 in 2004/2005.

To be fair they are also investing money in coaching, working with schools and player production. Phil has a good record of getting young players in to train with the first team. A big problem is a lot of the young players leave the area when they finish school.
My earlier comments were without a lot of investigation. Just to clarify I wasn't suggesting that Phil isn't a good guy doing many good things for football in his area. Just feel that the CL team could be done better for less which would free up more money for other programs and facilities etc..
Can anyone confirm that he put a lot of money into the Womens team up there in earlier years also?

What a legend. Well done Phil. Good to see football in bush country is on the up. Looking forward to seeing the new turf and stadium over there in 2015

Western Suburbs. He played for them on Tuesday (2nd half) in a friendly against Petone.
What was the score of that game?
2-1 to Petone I hear

Yes, it was 2:1 to to Petone. Wests (especially in the 2nd half) had a few young OLE players on the field. Doubt they will play much during the regular season.

The rumour is they are going to sign a striker and a midfielder from Auckland , but cannot remember their names, sorry. Also, they are losing Sean Morris, who played for them last season (and for Hawkes Bay in ASBP).. He is going to Auckland City to play for them in the O-league.
