played full 90 for V Guimaraes as they lost 0-1 in 88th min at home to Feirense
I watched this game. Not having seen Boyd play since his Nix days I was interesting to see his progression.
To be honest I was impressed. He is a now a very good footballer. He obviously has been well coached over the last couple of years. He is one of V Guimareas better players. He took all the corners and free kicks...he has a wicked right foot. I am not saying hes the next Ronaldho but he looks completely adapted to Portugal Div 1.
Highlights were a few excellent dipping crosses from open play. He skinned his marker a couple of times(who got a yellow card for a rugby tackle on Boyd after he beat him again) He put in a glorious Beckham like 60 metre diagonal pass that had the opposite keeper in all sorts of trouble. He also banged a couple of good shots on goal. But what I really liked was his tactical appreciation. He linked, passed and moved really well.
I have watched Rojas play a few games in Holland but Boyd is streets better. Rojas can beat a man but IMO lacks football smarts. Boyd looks the complete package...he will be transfered to a bigger club in the next couple of years for sure.
His club side though are not a good side. They are now bottom of the league with no points after three rounds. They have some good attackers but their midfield got completely outplayed in this game. The front guys lived of scraps ...which is hard for a winger like Boyd. They play their full backs really high but their tactic is for the wingers to then cut in centrally. They lacked width on attack and most of the time the fullback ended up playing a ball back to the defenders.
I would rate Reid as our best player followed by Wood......but it would be 50/50 between Boyd and Thomas. Thomas is very good but he is playing at a lower level than Boyd(Holland is 9th???? on UEFA ranking where as Portugal is ranked 6th) Portugals top 4 teams are excellent and in the matches I have watched their midtable teams have some very good players.
