Similar playing styles. No work rate, and more focussed on wowing the crowd than scoring goals.

It's also the same Peter Rae that outscored Ant hancock as a teenager for south canterbury (13 goals), and probably scored 10+ goals for uni this season. Who would you suggest instead? Rickerby is about the only option

Rickerby would look like rooney in this team.

Ebanda and Morris are both great inclusions, ebanda former pro and in a good team will thrive in the middle! A big black presence is what we need!!! As for Morris - brilliant out n out striker holds the ball up well , technically very good and has a fuckin shotgun strike on him! As for the majority of the rest eg. Higgins , wrightwebb , flood , those 3 would be slightly better than average fletcher cup players at best, will be embarressing if they actually get game time.

Thought I would bring a little perspective to this forum.

Lets not forget that this "Squad" that has been put up on football south is not the Southern United squad that will be there come start of the season.

From last year the team has lost:

Horner, Aaron, Connor, Ferg

Horner is a great player but playing CM last year was not his best position and Aaron who was a great player in his day played one year to long at National League IMO. These two players will not be major losses to this years squad.

Connor and Ferg will be a huge lose - especially connor's relaxed attitude on the pitch but i think Mansford may be able to step up and fill one of those positions

Still to come in:

Joy, Ryder and Victor

Once these payers come into the squad and the deadweight from the squad on Football south is cut order will be restored

Horner, Burgess, Connor, Ferg all very experienced players to lose though and nobody even close to experience/quality replacing them so they will be big losses. Stevens also big loss. Victor won't be involved.

Ya Can't tell me Aaron will be a big lose- he scored 1or 2 goals at most- Fraser Cameron could do better and he's terrible

That's interesting news. I recall he was quite handy for Tech in 2011 and was a part of the Otago Utd youth squad in 2011/2012.  Tidy left winger.  He was at Uni and then buggered off back to Auckland I think.  But where has he been playing?

Time to give you guys down there a few notes on football.

Henry Flood played for Nomads in MPL before going to Uni in Dunedin, got clubs Youth player of the year in first season playing MPL.

Scored some goals has some pace first touch needed improvement, I would say he can step up. Toubat has plenty to prove as I've omly seen him play as a striker and again a few years ago but has pace so if he has worked on touch and vision in the last few years then could make the squad as a midfielder.

So maybe you guys are giving the side some stick when you should wait and see what happens in pre season and the first couple of games.

Canterbury Dragons may be your bench mark for how well SU are going come the 2nd November game.

When Keith Braithwaite took over the Dragons thay had finished last in the previous two seasons. That is cant get my head around this but below Otago U. Fact Keith didn't see anything wrong with getting new players unknown outside of the MPL and as a team [that is what team sport is about] went to the ASB final.

To name a few of those newbies from what is now CashmereTech we had Kamo, Wortelboer, Swaney, Batty, Lancaster and Barton plus from other clubs Burns, McGarr, Miles, Harris, and not least Aaron Clapham. I stand to be corrected but I'm sure that non of these guys had played ASB prem prior to that year under Keith.

Sure we had some half decent other players in  the mix with Andy Pitman, Gareth Rowe. Collins, Boyd and Terris.

Don't Southern United have the same sort of roster a few with previous games under the belt and a lot of unknowns?

So the main block to you finishing above Canterbury is yourselves putting down the coach and team before they start.

Ah well then that's not so bad then is it?  They fell out of the Chatham Cup and looked dodgy in the league up there from what I can tell until Alan Pearce signed, and then they pushed on and finished third.  So the Kings are a team on the rise maybe, and one of their young players is in the mix.  Well, it's good for us I think and he should defiantly be with us in the squad - but is he committed to stay a while with Tech again or what? Or is he just a wee journeyman?

Aye, but the thing about a turd is this.  A turd don't always know it's a turd.  And if ye don't know, ye don't care.  And if ye don't care then ye might have a go.  And if ye have a go then there's a chance, a wee chance I admit, but it's still a wee chance. A chance that ye might not be a turd, but ye might be something better, like a fart.  And if ye might be a fart then there's a wee chance ye might be something better.  Like a wee tummy flex and all.  Just a wee tummy flex - you know - you're flexing yerself now, flexin yer muscles and all.  And if ye might be a wee tummy flex flexing yourself, then ye never know.  You might flex one day and end up with nice hair,  Next thing ye know ye might be Shamus Ryder by God.  All hairy-legged and all with his long locks and girls swoonin. So there you go Mr turd.  You're just a few steps you are from being shite to being Mr has it all Shamussy wamussy Ryder - too good to play for Southern Utd FC even. Or even better, you might just be  a few steps from bein Mr Horner.  Muscles and hair and attitude and all.  Now that would make yer the king of the freekin hill.

One man's shit is another man's gold.

As a region with a long history of gold mining that's what you need to do, onwards and upwards. The return to an 8 team league next year should surely help as it tends to concentrate the players in fewer clubs playing higher quality games although this could take a while. That could also ease the introduction of a SI league for the top 4 sides (plus 4 from Mainland PL) at the end of a 2 round SPL? Remaining 4 teams then go into a promotion/relegation battle with other clubs to sort teams for the following seasons SPL? Surely that is something you guys would support as a mechanism for improving your good young local lads over the tribal head banging that goes on year on year? Not sure if you've noticed but it has been  a while since Otago teams and Otago Utd in particular could enter any competition with expectations of success, and that is not good for football overall.

After the youth team doing extremely well last year i think Luiz has noticed this and given a few of those lads a chance to try crack the final squad. Geordie Mansford, Pete Overmire, Cam Atwood and Ross Howard. Thats the youth back four

Southland teams fared well in their games against Southern United at
Southland Football’s ILT Turf in Invercargill gaining a win and a draw from
the two encounters.
Southern United is the new brand for what was the Otago United ASB Premiership
football franchise based in Dunedin.
The Southland Under 19 youth team came from a goal down in their game
after James McGarry had put Southern United ahead with an early goal.
Finn Moore equalised for Southland and a goal from Jack Boland before
half time gave them a 2-1 lead which they defended for the remainder of
the game.
The senior game was a very even affair as the 0-0 score line would indicate
with both teams cancelling each other out in midfield and defence while
there was a noticeable lack of opportunities in the attacking third.
Southern United coach Luiz Uehara fielded a somewhat trial squad for the game
with the senior players from Dunedin Technical, Caversham and Roslyn not involved.
Southern’s best chance to win the game came late in the second half but Southland keeper Chris Marsh was up to saving a near point-blank effort to save the day for his team.
Southland responded with a break away chance from Steve Macdonald which was halted by the Southern keeper impeding his progress.

Training 6am for the lads tomorrow. Been hearing whispers of a Sunday session. Interested to see who makes training.

Lot of training coming up morning and evening on some days. What distance/ time is the big run and is it at the weekend?
Will be fit for sure if the guys get into it and turn up.
You need more preseason games than what have been scheduled, but who you going to play to make it worth it besides the Canterbury game?
The Southland game was a good guide for the coaches as to who maybe able to step up another level, with no players from Cavy, Roslyn and Tech [except Tom Batty in goal] involved.
Are there doubts on the striker and midfield trialists as Southern dominated the game but couldn't break down the Southland rearguard.
If you can't get a goal v Southland then how will you be able to unlock Auckland City or Canterbury United defences?
Any reports on who played well enough to be in contention?

Drove past on the way to work this morning and seems your whispers of a Sunday session were in fact true as there did not appear to be anymore than 10 players running. Could only make out Mepham in the breif glimpse I got.

A sunday session you say? Good on those 10 lads lads that were still at it this morning then.  Seems like he's a hard man this Brazilian.

Footballsouth awards this Friday, who's going to get the gongs?

What awards are actually given?
And do the awards include the 12/13 summer league?
Assuming they do, here are my choices...

Player of the year : Matt Joy (Over Sam Mepham, Tom Jackson, Richard Smith, Al Rickerby)
Young Player : Cam Attwood (over Ross Howard, Geordie, Pete Overmire, Joel Stevens)
Coach of the Year : Tony Martin (Over Luiz, Doble, Fridge)
Team of the Year: Tech or OU Youth

Goal of the year: Contenders?? (Mepham vs Cavy, Coldicott vs GI, Jackson vs Roslyn, De Costa vs Mosgiel were the best ones I seen)
Con of the year: Craig Doble
Personality of the year: Jesse Wright, Luiz Uehara, Joh Mpondo, Callum flaws, and Tony Martin make the shortlist.
Referee of the year: Up in the open

Con of the year is 100% Craig Doble!  Player of the year is a tough one! Few lads stood out! Young player could go to all those boys as everyone played there part in the sublime otago united youth season. Coach of the year...well mike fridge or Tony Martin surely!  Team of the  year maybe say OU Yourh because it's the first time an otago united  team has made in anywhere near the final and with the run they had to get there has to go for something. Goal of the year could be Tristan Prattleys free kick against Roslyn in  the last game for tech. Bent it round the walk into the bottom corner in a huge, deciding match for tech. You've nailed it on the head though  Stu Pidasole
