video footage of it would be in their own interests too, we have thousands of players in the city yet have very few interested in the dragons. promo work for them is crap to say the least

I have no comment really on yesterday's match, but can I just commend Canty United on contributing my favourite 2011/12 ASB Premiership player name to the competition:

#9 - George SNUFFLEUPAGUS - seen in this picture with strike partner Birdy.

Disclaimer - I'm not saying he's a muppet, just that he has a hard-to-say surname that amused me. Thought he played pretty well in fact.Smithy2011-12-04 17:32:16

If you want video of home games for Canterbury United go see Keith or Cliff Parker, Cliff was the Dragons video man last year so he may still be doing it this season. Cliff also has most of the Halswell games from the last two seasons both Home & Away.

Would be good if the Dragons board can make use of it to promote the product.

surprised people aint queing for those Halswell videos.

For those who may not have seen it.

Welly v Canterbury Utd.
Remember the coaching stats from years ago.
Tight defence wins competitions. Attack wins games but not the league.

Make your own mind and post comments.

great quality footage (why the f*ck cant we have that for Can U games??).

Left side of defence seemed to get ripped apart, finishing was crap for us, communication seemed to be lacking...or atleast the listening skills. heard late in the video when we were defending "18! get on the 18!" yet 2 of our defenders are pretty much holding hands with our keeper

I think the lads are well aware the defending was poor and being able to watch it on youtube meant their was no place to hide. Its been watched, discussed and we all know we'll get destroyed by most teams if we do it again. Lucky for us it was'nt in the league and we're still in a strong position on 9pts albeit with the big guns yet to come.

Another poor performance by us sunday. Fantastic stadium, huge pitch ideal for us to get the ball wide and attack Otago with our pace. Instead we just didn't turn up, we were narrow, slow on the ball and resorted to long ball tactics to much. They on the other hand were up for the battle, were prepared to run and commited themselves to every challenge. Big opportunity missed and it does'nt get easier with Waitakare and Auckland next. Hopefully big Georges suspension is only for the 1 game but it could be more. Just heard that Claps could have a broken bone in his foot so chances are he won't be playing on this week. Don't give up on us yet, hope to see you all their sunday.

Jo can you update us all on the goss thanks. Has Danny Atwell joined the squad? Is he in for AC who is on crutches and how long is Aaron out for? Could be good thing we have a break for a few weeks after this Sunday.
I bet Keith and Andy ran the boys hard last night [Tuesday] at training.

[QUOTE=JoeMurray8] Well done Otago, Didn't see the sending off so can't comment but talking to George later he said the defender kicked him and he threw his arm out but no contact was made.

Not the brightest bulb in the pack then if he doesn't know at his age it's an early shower with any hint of retaliation. If he has to vent his frustration teach him to sledge, the NZ cricket team have picked that up and shown the Aussies etal can lose their focus and throw a game [they could only lose for theselves] away by some verbal in the ear.
Just going and letting your team mates down plus the spectators that went to Dunedin to watch when you needed to get a result, just !!

Enough of that rant. Lets hope the guys that take the park on Sunday are as up for wearing The Shirt as have been the guys in the last couple of seasons when they have had backs to the wall..
I'm picking a 2 -1 win to us with DA to play a big part in the holding midfield roll.
Kamo will be a better fit up front than the roll he has been asked to do in previous games, he holds the ball up well and allows the attacking midfielders to come into play a little further up the park.
Two taps ins, scraggies or deflections will do us fine thanks.

Sorry poolmister no goss for you unfortunately due to working lates all week but I suspect knowing Keith that the chances are their were a few doggies involved. I only found out about AC via text but I would suspect that if it is broken then it would have to be at least 6 weeks. Remembering all the furore after Beckham and then Rooney years ago, they took 7 weeks and 14 weeks respectively. DA has been training with the boys a few weeks and starting to ramp up his fitness, it would be a big ask to throw him in against the champions for his 1st game but the only certain thing is that none of us bar Adam are guaranteed a shirt on sunday so it could happen. The times when we look like a good team is when we play high tempo and take the game to our opponents and thats what we'll need to do sunday against Waitakare in order to get the 3 pts.

Good 2-1 win over Waitak today, makes it a youth and senior double. We did well in the first half however went off the boil in the second. Waitak scored in injury time and made it a nervewracking last few mins.

lucky win in some ways. Canterbury GK made four top saves in the first 20 minutes alone
he's clearly MOTM material

Canterbury made a really nice passing move after 10mins which deserved a goal, maybe a little lucky on the penalty (good advantage call by ref) and obviously Waitak were chasing the game when the 2nd went in.

Matt Thomas and Dan Terris went good. 1 Waitak player was probably lucky to not be sent off. Krishna offside too much. Feni (in)appropriately scored on his return

If these are 2 of the best 3 sides in the comp things need to improve. Commitment and some of the first touch is really good, but the standard of passing is not.

anyway result is great for us, any word on why the Canterbury guy left the dug out and sprayed the ref at full-time?

Interested to know why there is no game in Nelson this year?

Just seemed strange after they pulled 2500 last season.

I know it is a "Canterbury" team, but getting that feeling from last December wishing the game was just coming up.

Congrats VimFuego on the M.O.M, it had to be for Highfield who got us out of the S.h.1.t more times than I care to mention. Funnygame sunday because initially I thought we did alright but the more I thought about it we were pretty lucky. Waitak are normally lethal with their chances and on another day they could have easily had 4 and then it would have been a doing. I thought we won the midfield battle in the first half but were poor with the ball over the top in defence. In fairness De Vries, Krishna and even Pierce seem like they're running on the travelator that you have in the airport while we were walking on the side. Despite that we were still crap. In the second half we sat back in the midfield to much and got overrun by them. I though the defence did a lot better the second half and we didn't do as well in the midfield. Thought Cole had his best game in  a Canty shirt and took a lot of bollucks to step up for the peno despite his goal scoring record. Andy Barton and Russel did everything asked of them and Whitey ended up making the vital contributions for both goals. Calvin had a slow start but reacted well to a bollucking of yours truly and stepped up with the vital goal. Disapointed to concede in the end in the manner we did. Have to put my hand up after losing the ball in midfield (not for the first time I might add) but the toepoke was so speculative we could'nt believe it made it in. Anyway a big 3 pts, Merry xmas everyone and hopefully we can catch Auckland with to much paella & sangria in their belly come January the 14th.

Good to see the boys get some good cheer [3 points] going into the Christmas break and hope they enjoy the week or so off from training.
Penalty was a bit soft but you don't complain when it goes your way.
The season gets harder from here on with 4 big away games which we need some points from each.
Not sure why the Dragons didn't take the YHM game on 22 Jan to Nelson, still enough people on holiday then to get a good crowd.

The crowd there was quite tiny (about 250) so its not a surprise that no one has posted on the game.

Auckland probably could have been 3 up after 20 with the 1v1 opportunities. I know the paper raved about how much the surface at Kiwitea and the artificial surface in CHCH makes them better players (Kiwitea looked the best I have ever it for the last few years purely because they cut the grass) but the touches of the players left a lot to be desired cause the game was too fast for some of them. Dan Terris going off after 20 didn't help with an achillies strain it would seem. They should have parked him up front until the sub came and I thought it was really poor coaching not to make that positional change but the 1st goal setup did come right before he got subbed off up his side and he couldn't chase.

The most baffling thing was the referee Peter O'Leary. There were plenty of obvious cards in the game they he never gave and then he tossed Peverly and Corrales for what was nothing more than a push and shove. There was an accusation of Corrales kicking Peverly and Peverly punching Corrales but none of that happened. After a long chat, O'Leary somehow found 2 reds and everyone in the ground did a collective 'what?'

I think while Keith has been great for you guys in practice, on match day he is a liability. The young Asian boy Ken looked ok but Keith kept wanting him to do other things than what he was doing and his game fell to pieces following Keiths instructions. That and the various 'f**k this, f**k that, f**king disgrace' probably got Kamo booked because it became clear that the officials had enough of Keith and was riling O'Leary the wrong way.

Auckland were not really troubled in this game yet again, but it was not stellar or champagne football that everyone raved about. In fact ordinary and inept would be a closer description (save the goals) Auckland really do take some wrong options in the name of possession and more than a few of us in the stand lamented for players to go forward or simply hit it on target. When they did, Exposito got one.

The other thing we picked up after 15mins and Auckland had obvious done their homework on this was that they ran a 2nd defender at Peverly behind him because he always turned back and there is the 2nd defender on him. He coughed up so much possession that it was almost guaranteed he would give it away. If he is an All White candidate, he would not be after this game. I would suggest he needs a little bit of coaching because he had plenty of options but to turn back every time and into trouble lacks in player smarts and coaching awareness.

I think the long and short of it was that they were to good for us. Their is a big gulf in class between them and us. Yes we did have snippets of possession and created a few half chances but sometimes we treated the ball like it was a hot potatoe and too many were hiding behind players not really wanting the ball to be passed to them. I will say that we were missing 4 starters Clapham, Collett, Wild and Slefendorfas. On top of that Terris probably should'nt have played but it was a risk we were prepared to take because he has such an influence on the other lads when he's on the pitch. So perhaps we could have given a better account of ourselves with them in the side. However Auckland had Two big players missing with Hogg and Andreau who they just sold. If that was Auckland on a bad day then I'm not really looking forward to seeing them on a good day. Thought the young lad Shaun at full back swam pretty well when he was thrown in at the deep end. Didn't see what started the handbags but talking to Cole he did say the lads tried to kick out at his head and just missed him. Maybe the highlights video will show the story. Anyway if we were'nt sure whats required to win this thing then we sure as hell know now.

Yeah you guys are short on personnel at the moment which is a shame. Dan Terris will be a huge loss for you guys and I hope he gets better soon.

I think Peverly is a good footballer and I suppose I would clasify myself as a fan as opposed to a hater (if there are two categories) but I thought he was the thrust of your issues in the middle. I remember right before Kamo got booked, there was an easy 1-2 right in front of us near the stand and rather than take the easy pass, possession was coughed up. I think that summed up the day that maybe better care of the ball was needed.

It was a slight reference to the fact that players should not be getting paid for playing, and they get around it by coaching kids. But obviously that's not what he is talking about!

9-1 today v Manawatu

3-1 at half-time.

Manawatu goal was a cracking free-kick. A great strike really got hold of it. #11

Canterbury had 6 different goal scorers
5 goals from corners, I do not think I have ever seen this before. If you think Arsenal have had some trouble defending set pieces this was something else.

both AC's goals were free-kicks.second one was nice.  Joe got a goal! just got ya hand out of the  way in time... . Kamo's 3rd goal was probably the best move of the game. I liked Ken Y getting a decent run.

physically Canterbury bigger and stronger. Mana obviously got dis-heartened in the second half. Still not convinced by either passing options or accuracy. but if I'm moaning about 9-1 it's only because I care.

Good result will take the win and the goals tally to help GD but as a game from half time on it was crap. Just like an easy training run for the last 30 minutes.
No goals from George when we score 9 [ok 3 before subd] what TAB odds for that?
Manawatu showing the huge gulf between the top 4 teams and the rest. They didn't front with any game plan or ideas on how they wanted to play.
Manawatu free kick was the best goal of the day as wall was well positioned and struck it sweet, came from a tackle that Joe didn't need to try for.
Poor defending for both of ACs free kicks and well punished for it by Aaron.
I can't remember anyone trying to mark AC or close his space down early at any stage of the game.
Next home game on Saturday 4th Feb 2pm

yes a lovely free kick for sure

#8 witht the long hair tried to mark AC, he just didn't be very effective
he was knackered when he got subbed off. could of scored too, his header was nice because he looked off balance. that move was Manawatu's best I felt.

I think it's a 12 Noon kick-off on the 4th....
