5-0, could of been 10.
that said Waikato had some good players with some nice ball skills. They were just a bit little in stature and got knocked over a lot.
Canterbury goals 3 and 4 were good. Georgus George scored 4 and missed another 3.
to many offsides. It was frustrating to watch. Otherwise Canterbury will probably feel OK with this game, a win without ever really going for it.

I think it was more to do that the goalkeeper is playing outfield. And scoring.
AC has done OK as cover but needs to played in his strongest position.
The backs had looked suspect at least twice last weekend against a poor Waikato team. Maybe the coaching staff have had a wake up call before we get torn apart by the Auckland teams.
Terris and Dirou are not the answer at Centre Back either.
No amount of attacking prowess can make up for what was always a weak looking defence when the squad was named.
who is the man?
Read earlier posts and you would see who was playing the better at the Dragons trial games, a couple of players that didn't get trials that play MPL but not at Woolston Tech could do a job of putting a bit of steel into the defence/defensive mid field roll. If you watch local football you will know as well.
It was mentioned by several people after last weeks game that Waikato had two chances from keeper not holding or catching the ball plus a free kick that an ACFC team would expect to put away.
Keith likes his favorites no mater how bad they play game on game so don't expect things to change any time soon.
Lets hope they get stuck into training and have a tough game over the weekend off from ASB duties, squad games are not good enough at this stage of the season.

You should see the Waikato thread all ripping sh!t into those teenagers. Consider yourself lucky!
Everyone always bags Poolmister, and I have no idea who he is but I have no probs with a forum chucking ideas either happy or sad.

Very keen to see the auckland duopoly broken and I feel long term canterbury are the team to do it.
Poolmister why all the doom and gloom, alright we got humped 3-0 Try putting something postive on once in a while, have you never heard the saying that if you keep pulling those faces the wind might change and then you'll be stuck like that forever.
Thanks for the reply Joe.
My comments are not about doom just a fact that was obvious as long ago as the Mainland Awards night when the MPL defender OTY was awarded.
I do put a positive note on most things football including Canterbury United and have never been slow in speaking my mind and this forum is an extension of that.
By going along to CU games both at home and the odd away game I think as can be seen by some of my notes that I expect a top performance week in week out, this does not mean I expect you guys to win every game but do justice to the support you are trying to obtain and be up and motivated for every game not just the home games.
Canterbury Dragons lottery is being put out early in the new year so we will need all the good results you can get to help the local players/clubs sell the tickets.
They had a video running of the game in the bar afterwards but can;t seem to find it on the net anywhere. Will let you know if I find out.
is there video available joe? do you know if it's posted anywhere?

Would be great to have hilites package from the NZFC just like the old days. Imagine that! Monday night 6:30 NZFC, 7:00 A-League, 7:30 EPL and 8:30 Championship.
CTV taping and broadcasting games was a long time ago. Shame that. Only video footage would be someone with a handycam.
Dang, would explain why I couldn't find it. was decent footage too.
Would be nice to see even some form of coverage in the mainstream media
Canty keeper, Adam Highfield only had to make two real saves in the entire game. Waikato's first corner came in the 41st minute. I felt the ref and the lineo's made several bad calls with Cany call offside several times when they were not offside and I think either the 4th or 5th was offside but was not called. You got the feeling that once Waikato went 3 - nil down the ref gave many soft free kicks to Waikato in the one on one challenges with it more of a case the Canterbury players were just stronger in the challenges an anytime a Waikato when down in the call went against Canty.
Overall a good result for the Red and Blacks but maybe yet to be tested.
what formations did the team line up with?
The starting eleven was the same as against YoungHeart Manawatu.
cheers 82, what formations were they playing?
I'd say 442, defo 4 at the back. Maybe it was 451.VimFuego2011-11-06 19:49:36

Surely all the players are in Red and Black are currently Canterbury United players
Waikato, what a rubbish game plan they have.
It's not about keep ball if when you get to half way you look to go back ALL the time.
Edge can wax on all he likes about making better passing players but that display will turn spectators away.
It took 41 minutes for the first attack/shot by Waikato and only two others in the 2nd half, one being a well struck free kick on about 90 mins.
Every time Canterbury wanted to press and win the ball back around the half way in the first half they did win it and created clear chances that should have been finished off.
A nice win by the Dragons all the same, but we should have gone after the throat a lot more and pushed Waikato back into their own 20 metre area.
Once we had got 3 goals, there was plenty of times when the Waikato full backs had the ball turning back towards the GK thats the times when we should have gone Man to Man and forced the mistakes around the pen.
Still happy to see us end up on top of the table with clean sheet, GD could come into the final 2 places with so few games.
No one down here will be surprised if Waitakere put 10 or more past Waikato on the 27th.

Was at the Waikato game and have to agree that if Edge thinks he can win a game by tapping it around in a one touch triangle in his own half he deserves to get a walloping. What a joke the game was always going to break down to his detriment. Quite classic to watch.... by not altering his approach his team will be lined up for thrashings... Otago may even sink 5 goals against them.

2-0 to HBU at half time - Watson and Robertson scorers.

Better news I see the Youth team had a 2 - nil win today over Otago United, their first win of the season with the Mainland Pride defeating Football South 5 - 1 yesterday.

Looking back on this thread when the trials were on there was alot of talk about the merits of Rhys Parker and Tristan Nichol and how both looked the goods so unsure if these are the players you are talking about Poolmaster, but hard to get selected as they both pulled the pin prior to the final squad being named.
The only other named that was mentioned alot was Ryan Stewart. In the only home game we have seen I felt both Mark Johnson and Julyan Collett played well but that was against a poor Waikato side so will have to wait until the few home games.
Poolmister why all the doom and gloom, alright we got humped 3-0 but its only 1 game. Looking at the report it looks like it was a bad day at the office. After last year no-one was getting carried away after the first two games despite the goalfest. I didn't see the game so I can't comment but we have a defence out their that is makeshift due to two guys being injured that would probably start (Terris and Woertleboer) and Wild's still away with his studies. I still think we've got the best guys out their at the moment, I would imagine Wild would be available for Wellington in LB then Julyan would go to RB freeing Claps to move back in the middle. Thats just an idea mind, I don't think their is better out their in the mainland, watching can be deceptive but trust me when you play their is a huge gap between Mainland and NZFC. Try putting something postive on once in a while, have you never heard the saying that if you keep pulling those faces the wind might change and then you'll be stuck like that forever.

Totally agree that forums are their for the good, the bad and the ugly but I just think that poolmister has obviously got a bee in his bonnet about Keith and I think his opinions have been tainted slightly with the fact that Braith left Nomads and went to Tech. Yes KB could probably be accused of favouring certain players but what manager does'nt. In two seasons he's had one runners up and one playoff place. We're along way off the big two but the gap is getting smaller. In previous seasons its been said we're to defensive, we're trying to be more attacking, as a result we will be exposed a bit more, anyway rant over I'm back on position in 2 minutes, out.

No worries poolmister, looking forward to sundays game. Think its gonna go a long way to determining whether we've got what it takes to go a step further against what is arguably the third best outfit in the country. Wellington appear to have got over their blip but looking at the first two games they seem to be slow starters and go hell for leather in the 2nd half so thats definately something we can take advantage of. I expect them to be an energetic side and this will be the hardest test we've had this season (no disrespect to BAYS). On a positive note, Terris looks like he'll be available for the game pending no flare ups this week in training and Wild might be available for selection also.
No comment on the Wellywood win?
Great result, well done lads!
Great result, well done lads!
Very strange feeling, 3 pts in the bag but if you were in the changing room after the game you would have thought we'd been beaten. Thought we did well first half and up until the penalty it was a tight contest. Wellington will feel hard done by but it was in the box and a replay in the bar afterwards shows it was clearly so. However with the ref originally pointing outside the box then using the liner to make the right decision, I can see how TW would be annoyed. Anyway Claps from the spot, their was only going to be one outcome. After that a rush of blood to the head and Musa was off and then their was only one team in it. Wellington shuffled the pack and took the big fella up front off which I was suprised at because he was holding it up well. It was all us though and we really should have been at least 3 up by half time. The 2nd half we took our foot off the pedal and Wellington threw caution to the wind and played with 3 up front. A combination of slack passing (yours truly was guilty of this a few times), tired legs and poor decisions contributed to a crap 2nd half for us. In fact you would have thought that we had 10 men not them. Ultimately we had enough and thanks to Adam Highfield who made two great saves and Johno who cleared one away we got the pts. No-ones getting carried away and Keith was quick to point that out, he even said we could play better this season and get beat so at the end of the day 3 pts is 3pts. Positives are that we still created more chances than Wellington in the second half despite playing poorly we go 5 pts clear of them now and thats massive against a genuine playoff rival we can repeat the feat against Otago if we can get a win down in Dunedin in a fortnights time.

Squeeze the ASB Prem in between two of the others so your audience stay tuned for it. Don't just let them arrive late and skip it.
I think it is Ken Yamamoto's father that video's that games from the grandstand.

I know I have mentioned this before but when we lost the NZFC hilites package I questioned NZF and they said "be patient, something great will replace it". That was 5 years ago mind.
If you want video of home games for Canterbury United go see Keith or Cliff Parker, Cliff was the Dragons video man last year so he may still be doing it this season. Cliff also has most of the Halswell games from the last two seasons both Home & Away.
Would be good if the Dragons board can make use of it to promote the product.
