OK, now that FFA have levelled the playing field between the two petulent little whinginh toddlers that are Malbin Victory and Sidknee Effsee where does that leave us?

Would we be right in thinking that the FFA should pay for Ryan Nelsen to return to the country of his birth to lift the profile of the sport here?

Are you suggesting that the FFA isn't somehow involved in both players signing A-League contracts? We know they've bent the rules for Kewell. Also, why would Blackburn release Emerton for "free" when he's more than capable of making their Starting XI in arguably the toughtest professional league in the world of football???

Something stinks here...

What? I'm suggesting..?

No you are suggesting. You with your "I reckon.."

Stinks?
For one, the FFA are too f**king incompetent to set anything like this up.

It wasn't long ago the conspiracy twats on the Tard forum were saying the FFA was trying to block the signing of Kewell to Melbourne BECAUSE of their "obvious bias towards sh*tney ZOMG111!!"..

That's the area you're heading to with demanding the FFA pay for Ryan Nelsen to come back to NZ.
ARF!

SEcondly are you suggesting SFC's Russian billionaire owner didn't fork out for this?
Crazy talk.

Emerton's contract at Ewood Park was due to expire next summer, but the final year will be cancelled to allow him to return home.
[Quote]
"I'm a Sydney boy and I'm looking forward to representing the people of Sydney every week," said Emerton.

"Football has been very good to me and I have always said I'd like to come back and play in the A-League while I still have something to offer and thanks to Sydney FC and Blackburn Rovers that opportunity has come about a bit earlier than I had thought."
[Quote]After Blackburn's 3-1 Carling Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday, Rovers manager Steve Kean said if Emerton moved it would be "a family decision, not a football decision", adding it would be "very, very sad" for the club to lose him.

Fox Sports:[Quote]"Family is a major consideration, it's true, and there's a lot of excitement for us in building a new life back in Sydney," Emerton said.

"But on the football side of things I needed a new challenge to be honest.

Still not convinced, Traitor.

Seems way to "clean" to me!

Something about it just doesn't sit right with me that's all. It's all just a little too coincidental that it's happening in the same week that Kewell was confirmed as a Tard player.

SFC kept their mouths shut is all. Though there were links/rumours to Emmerton & SFC as far back as last Jan.

Mate, it's not good for your head to think stuff like that. It's what the Tards do.

The FFA interfere for sure, they probably will regarding the opening MV-SFC game.
Which makes them really hopeless for locking in a fixture that would feat Harry Kewell.
Remember it was just a week ago that MV started talking about moving the fixture date.

Hola! I spend time off in various locations for matters of business. I come back to Antipodes base, I see my details edited on screen of left. People edit and assume thoughts of me of ridiculous nature. I ask to be left alone, I come here only on rare occasion and for no other.

I read above, you ask for Governing body of A-League to provide your club with player. Ryan Nelsen, a name I recall with fondness from Africa South. Man of strength and integrity.

You face situation here, if governing body of A-league provide your club with player, it must provide player of likeness and skill for all other clubs. Your club cannot be spotted in middle and for governing body to say "Hey you, you deserve player special". Footballing system does not work in way  Diddy C propose.

Surely we let him go too soon, as he has played SPL and Turkish league recently so although looked rusty should have kept on board.

Still baffles me no one at the club smelled a rat with Rigters even after his interview claiming he was hanging out for a better monetary offer from that SPL club.

Billy's shot at Glory
Friday, 23 September 2011
by Paul Barbieri, Sportal

It may be something of a long shot calling Perth Glory's Billy Mehmet an 'old warrior' at the ripe old age of 27, but the former Scottish Premier League striker has been signed by a football club since the age of eight, so he seems a perfect candidate to open our Old Warrior series featuring veterans in the Hyundai A-League.

Mehmet may have only just arrived in Western Australia as the very latest addition to Ian Ferguson's squad, but the forward has enjoyed a long and successful career from the time he pulled on the boots as a child for West Ham to making a name for himself as a dangerous striker with Dunfermline Athletic and St Mirren in the SPL.

Born in London, Mehmet's background is Irish, Turkish Cypriot and English and he's represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level.

But after a frustrating last few years in Turkey with Genclerbirligi - where he met Glory team-mate Shane Smeltz - and Samsunspor, Mehmet is hoping to find some consistency in his football with a Perth Glory side determined to atone for last season's disappointments.

"I was obviously playing with Shane Smeltz in Turkey and at the end of last season I left Turkey because out there, the way the football was and the way the club's treat foreigners and that, it was just something I wanted to get out of," Mehmet explained.

"Obviously it was good for money and it was good financially but for playing ways it wasn't exactly what I wanted."

"At the end of the season I wanted to cancel my contract but the club took an extra month to get it sorted, so after that I got in touch with Smeltzy and I said to Smeltzy, I wanted to try overseas and I wanted to try Australia and give it a crack."

"I then went to Wellington Phoenix for a week but when I went there, I sort of got injured and I played in a formation which ... was a 4-5-1 and it was like me dropping onto their deepest midfielder, which doesn't really suit my style of play."

"After that, Ian Ferguson got in touch with me and he wanted me to come down to Perth Glory to just sign straight away, so it was a little bit confusing but obviously I'm just happy it's all sorted now and I'm looking forward to it."

With Ferguson completely overhauling Perth's squad during his first pre-season in charge of the team, Mehmet is one of a number of new arrivals.

Although it's sometimes difficult coming into an established team and making a mark, Mehmet believes the fact Perth have so many newcomers has meant everyone is in the same boat, getting used to a new coach, new system and new city.

"I'm enjoying it and the boys are brand new and everyone's been so welcoming so it's made it easier," he said.

"Obviously we've all got to be on the same sort of wavelength, we know what we've got to do and obviously it's a new start for all of us, so hopefully we can do better than the team did last year."

"But I love everything about Australia, I love it so far and I have a one-year deal and I'm just going to work hard and hopefully prove that I'm worthy of a new contract when it comes to the time. But at the moment, I'm just concentrating on trying to get a start and trying to get into the team."

And, those trivia buffs out there wanting to know who the youngest person is to score a first-team goal for West Ham can look no further, for it's Mehmet himself who scored as a 14-year-old for the Hammers.

Mehmet actually spent 11 years with the East London club and was captain of their academy before transferring to Dunfermline at 19 in 2003. Although he started at a very young age, Mehmet felt it helped him become the person he is today.

"When I first joined West Ham, when I went into training, you obviously learn a little bit earlier than what you might in other countries. There's extra things they make you do when you go home and they keep a good eye on you. They come in and they always test you and stuff to make sure you're at the level they want you to be at. Obviously what age you're at determines what level you're at, so they don't push you too hard, but they want you to get to a certain level as quick as you can."

"You have to grow up quicker. Obviously most boys' dream in England is to be a footballer and when you get a chance at a young age you've just got to take it. There's times when your pals are going out and they're having a drink and doing whatever and you've got to sacrifice that and have an early night 'cause you've got your football match the next day."

"But at the end of the day, if you do all that and you give yourself the best opportunity then, you get a head start in life. Then, when you go home and see your friends and you've got a football (career) and they're maybe not doing anything, it just goes to show it was worth it."

Golec signs with Reds
Monday, 26 September 2011
by Sportal

Australian under-23 representative Antony Golec has signed a one-year deal at Adelaide United, making the switch from A-League counterpart Sydney FC.

The central defender has made 13 appearances in the A-League for the Sky Blues in the past three seasons, and United manager Rini Coolen has poached the left-footer to his squad after he impressed in trials against champions Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory.

The 21-year-old Golec said his signing at Hindmarsh Stadium was a welcome relief, to secure his future for the next 12 months.

"It feels great. Six months sitting on the sideline trying to find a club, it was a little bit hard going through the motions, but I knew I was good enough, I believed in myself and I just had to get an opportunity and I got it," the Sydney-born defender said.

"Im glad that I took it with both hands and hopefully it just gets better from here."

Golec had trained with the Central Coast Mariners for two months in the off-season, and after he attempted to join with a club in the Indonesian Premier League, United boss Coolen called upon the promising defender to trial with the Reds.

"We were looking for a left footed central defender and knowing he (Golec) fitted that mould and is still a young player, its a chance for him to come in for a year and see if he is going to be a player for the future," Coolen said.

"Hes tall, hes strong and he has played for Australias national team at Under-20 and Under-23 level, so its good to have players like this in our squad because we have to think not only about the short term but also the longer term."

Golec embraced the chance to impress the Reds hierarchy, and said it was a credit to his new team-mates that he felt a part of the side before he even signed.

"I was given an opportunity and I just went out there thinking this is it, and it was against the champions so it worked out well," Golec said.

"Then against Melbourne, mentally you had to be tough but the boys helped me out a lot and I felt like when I was in Brisbane I was already part of the team so that helped me to feel comfortable when I came on."

Susak signing completes Reds' 2011/12 squad
Monday, 26 September 2011

Milan Susak during the 2007/08 season.
 AUFC

The squad to lead Adelaide United FCs charge towards the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 championship has been finalised with confirmation that former Reds defender Milan Susak is on his way back to Adelaide after committing to the club on a two year deal.

Susaks acquisition is a significant coup for Head Coach Rini Coolen and the Reds less than a fortnight out from the start of season seven.

The robust, uncompromising defender was part of Brisbane Roars record breaking championship winning team last season. Susak played 102 minutes in the clubs extraordinary grand final victory and started in 25 of his 29 appearances for the champions as he contributed to helping the Roar to being the team with the best defensive record in 2010/11.

Having experienced what it takes to win a Hyundai A-League title, Susaks addition is certain to bolster the Reds and give Coolen another more than capable option across the back to complement an already strong list of defenders.

Over the last weeks we were looking at getting another defenderthere wasnt one directly available until we found out that Milan Susak was available, and knowing him from last season at Brisbane Roar, he won the league and played almost all of the games for them and also played in various positions, Coolen said.

Plus knowing that he had also worked with this club before, people know what he is like as a person and a player and all of the feedback I got was very good, so we took the opportunity to sign him and now we have to find out when he comes in how fit he is.

Im really happy to have him, hes an extra central defender which we needed because Boogaard is still not available. He knows a few of the players, he knows Adelaide, he knows the league and he can play in a number of positions across the back, so that is a benefit and made the choice an easy one.

I think this is a good example why sometimes it is good to wait before you make the last decisions on who to sign and that last one is now there.

Susak celebrates during last season's Hyundai A-League grand final.
 Getty Images

In his only other Hyundai A-League season to date, Susak was a member of the Reds 2007 Pre Season Cup winning squad but United could only manage sixth in the league back in 2007/08, although he helped United become the first Hyundai A-League club to qualify for the 2008 AFC Champions League Knockout Stage.

The 27 year old was a herculean figure alongside Sasa Ognenovski in the Reds crucial final group match as against all the odds, United held on for a nil-all draw in the Chinese province of Changchun.

But with his contract with the Reds coming to a close, Susak left straight from China for Germany where he signed with SpVgg Unterhaching in the 3.Liga (German 3rd Division).

Two seasons later he scored a one year contract with the Roar before he was enticed by a lucrative offer to Indonesia. But complications arose, leaving Susak, who is currently in Indonesia, looking for alternatives.

Susak is scheduled to arrive in Adelaide on Wednesday.

Former Qantas Socceroos keeper joins Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory today announces that former Qantas Socceroos goalkeeper, Ante Covic, has joined the club on a one-year deal.

Covic returns to the Hyundai A-League for a second time after initially representing the Newcastle Jets in seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09, before the twice capped Socceroo headed back to Sweden where he spent the past two seasons at IF Elfsborg.

The 36 year-old said, As a family we felt it was the right move for us. Melbourne Victory is a great club and they have been very successful, so the opportunity to come back now was the perfect fit.

Every Aussie that plays overseas keeps an eye on the A-League and wants it to succeed. So it is great to come back and be part of it and you couldnt ask for a better start to the season than this Saturday night against Sydney FC. Covic added.

While Covics signing is a positive one, the news isnt so good for current Number 1, Tando Velaphi, who has suffered a stress fracture of the tibia and will be sidelined for 6 10 weeks.

While bitterly disappointed for Velaphi, Melbourne Victory Football Director, Francis Awaritefe, was clearly delighted to have signed a player of Covics experience at such short notice.

Were thrilled to have Ante join the club. he said.

With Tando (Velaphi) going down on the eve of the season, it was vital we find a top-line replacement and Antes record speaks for itself.

Tando has come on in leaps and bounds since he arrived in Melbourne and its a terrible blow for him, but were hopeful hell be back sooner rather than later.

In Ante we have a highly experienced goalkeeper, and subject to international clearance, will slot straight into the team, which, considering the season is only a matter of days away, is a huge bonus.
