Ivorians - 21 shots, 12 on target just in the first half!

Denmark scored two goals from their only two shots on target.

It finished 4-2.  Souleymane Coulibaly got all 4 of them.  Come on Carmichael, you've got some work to do.

We need either Czech or Ubek to win can not afford a draw in case we lose otherwise we finish fourth in the group and are out.

With 3 points and a positive goal difference (at this stage) i'd expect us to go through, so long as we stay in 3rd spot and dont get the before mentioned draw.

Still would just rather beat U.S.A and forget about all the other equations.

Harshae Raniga the LB is right footed and his natural position is at RB, that' maybe one of the reason why he struggled last game. But actually the guy is going after the tournament to England at west bromwich albion for a second trial

I just watched at replay of the last game (at Four Kings), and I reckon this is the most entertaining New Zealand team I've ever watched play. Possibly even the BEST New Zealand team I've ever seen play.

You might have something there, although putting all the credit in the hands of one guy is probably unfair to a bunch of others.

Yep that is true Smithy, lots of others behind the scenes have worked hard to prepare this team as well. But personally i think what Ramon brings in terms of added knowledge and experience is invaluable to the lads.

There were lots of others-coming thru the grades, Ramon is at the finish line,no disrespect but thats the truth of it and if he has influenced them in the last 7 days I will personally hunt him down and shake his hand with a beer

And don't forget Steve Cain who has worked with the majority of these players 4 or 5 times a week for the last year...

Cain may have worked with them plenty, but ultimately set them up to play negative football. What Ramon (and Aaron too to an extent) has brought to the table is a completely different approach and trust in the players to foot it with their opponents, rather than park the bus hoping for a draw.

So long as this style is continued with and not lsot as they progress - u20's for example can be a bit negative.

I watched the game again after reading these comments and have to agree, this team has real promise. The second half was a transformation, ball control on attack was impressive overall, with more purpose and commitment clearly there. Whoever contributes to enable these young lads, keep it going!!

Exactly right - if we secure the third, even with a loss to the US, we will get through.

The danger is if we find ourselves behind in the US game, the Czechs and Uzbeks just take it easy and settle for the draw which would put them both through.

dont think the czechs and uzbeks would do that, to much to lose if something goes wrong

exactly, the results have played well into our hands so we have a backup option, but i think we can win this game, if the 2nd half against the czechs was anything to go from, our destiny is in our own handsdetoxin2011-06-25 12:50:00

...and the Congo coach probably just said
"Thank Christ for That!!"..... Christ Nkounkou that is, who scored the 75th min equaliser to enable Congo to go through to the final 16 with Mexico from Group A. Netherlands and Korea out.

Apparently the USA side has been together for two years with a budget of 6 million dollars to prepare for this tournament.

Not six million!

So, with the results today, it seems that a draw will DEFINITELY get NZ though as one of the four best third-place finishers, given third place in Groups A and B have 2 and 3 points respectively and a draw would take NZ to four.

Even a narrow loss might be enough, provided the other game (Uzbekistan v Czech Republic) isn't a draw.  If there's a result in that game and NZ don't lose by too much, NZ will finish on 3 points and in third place (ahead of whoever loses the Uzbek/CR game) and also with a better goal difference than Argentina (-4 GD) from Group B.

Have I got that right?

Argentina still has a chance of progressing as one the best 4 3rd-placed teams, dependent on results tomorrow and Monday morning.

Group C matches on at the moment - Uruguay v England and Canada v Rwanda...both goal-less approaching HT.

If the Canada v Rwanda match is drawn, the third placed side in NZ's group will be guaranteed a place in the knockout stages, because the third placed team in Group C would only have two points, and the third-placed team in Group A also finished with two points.

The only way they can miss out now is to finish fourth in the group, which they will if they lose and CR v Uzbek is a draw.
