I'm sure that's probably bollocks. They've been spamming him for months on his Instagram
Roy Krishna (Odisha FC | India)
That being said he's not an Indian national as far as I know so the connection is probably mainly a cultural one.
If I had to wager, I'd say 70% Korea, 20% elsewhere in Asia, 10% Indonesia (they've poched a few A league players in the past), 0% India.
man, I'd be super happy if it were Japan
Maybe its Russia. Maybe its not a holiday that has them there at the moment.

Kiev?
LOL, really? With a name like Krishna I could have sworn he was Polish, or perhaps Vietnamese
Definitely Russian. ?

Well he was in St Petersburg and Zenit's star striker was just sent to jail for hitting a government official with a chair...
Nothing but love and respect for the guy. Hope he really does land a K-League gig. He's good enough to take it on and succeed, I reckon.
Go Roy, wish you all the best. Look forward to the official news.
Former Wellington star Roy Krishna is finally set to confirm his move to India.

The Fijian flyer has signed a 1 year deal with ATK ahead of the upcoming ISL season.
Tweet from Roy
140 years ago my ancestors came to Fiji from Kolkata, India in search of better opportunities. Today marks the start of a similar journey as I join @ATKFC

in the Hero India Super League to go back to where it all began. #aamarbukeyatk pic.twitter.com/JHjeTS3tMS
1 year is interesting seeing as he was looking for a mukti year deal, must be on serious dosh.
Wonder how much he's on for just a 1 one year deal. Has to be over a Mil maybe 2?
Wonder when Williams will announce the same
Willaims and Vidosich also rumoured to join ATK.
Looks like there season is only 18 games long. Not bad for old fella's
Interesting comment here from Rollo that it wasn't the highest offer he got
Roy Krishna says ATK "valued me more" than any other club that showed interest. Krishna also states below that he is not ruling out a return to the A-League before he retires. Multiple sources have told me this was not the most lucrative offer. https://t.co/yU5nlptcOm

I love that "valued me more" statement - translated = they offered me more money. Good on him for taking the big bucks, but given he would have had a number of bigger clubs chasing him with a good deal here I'm surprised he took what has to be seen as the easy option.

He mentioned a few times about wanting to do all he can to boost the profile of Football in Fiji. I guess don't be surprised to see ATK playing a pre-season tourney in Fiji. The cultural similarities must help as well.

Chance of stardom better than in A-league

That's true. If he becomes a star in India (which is probably going to happen), it will certainly raise his, Fiji's and football's profile in both countries significantly. And if it doesn't work like he seems to have planned for, you'd hope there's a lucrative contract at the Nix waiting for him in a years time.
Gotta ask 1 season and a short one at that,,makes one wonder where the next stop is going to be
1 year - cash in
After that comeback to the A League.

Straight to Western United

Mr Krishnevski strikes gold
good on him, hopefully we have a club next year and he comes back
Can't help feeling really proud of our Roy reading all the comments on ATK's official post absolutely fawning over him. They're all saying he's the biggest signing in the history of the ISL. I know it's not a great league and all, but its the league for over a billion people and has some serious money behind it. Good luck to him and I hope we see him come back at some stage
money talks so fair enough. Might not score as many depending on their midfield. Will follow with interest.
Too true.
I think this is great news from a developmental and longitudinal perspective
re Raises the profile of Fijian Football dramatically - what an expansive new audience ! & with that the profile Oceania football indirectly. Forging more Asian-Oceanic football relationships/connections is what we need if we have any hope of getting out of Oceania.
Just checked out their Facebook page - has over a million likes. Pretty slick operation they have over there, just need to raise the standard of football to match!
I think this is sad, Indian football is completely village. I'd have loved to see him at a higher level
Full circle indeed. Came to the Nix from the Handy Prem, leaves the Nix for a league with 18 game seasons and a low standard of football.
On a serious note, stoked for him. Looks rewarding for him both financially and personally, which he absolutely deserves.

Reckon that's pretty rude. He explained his reasoning well.

I think we'd all have loved to have seen Krishna at a top level - but seeing him as an enormous star in India would still make me really happy...
All the very big names that went to India in the past have moved on usually within a year or shortly thereafter.
What does interest me though is what the Indian bookies will be offering on him scoring - or not, depending on what has been predetermined.
Roy could have gone elsewnere but is placating his wife me thinks.
I just hope he really knows what he has gotten himself into. "It's just not Cricket" - 12th man, Billy Birmingham.
Yeah I reckon we can all be a little miffed that he isn't making his name at a higher level, making us proud and all that. But who can blame him, his reasoning's geniune and sounds like a fantastic opportunity for him and family, plus making some well-deserved coin for a year. Best of luck and make us proud Roy mate!
I would have loved for him to stay here one more year to see if he could match or improve on last season. Good luck to him and I understand his reasoning but that's like a move from the A League to Capitol 3 but with big money.
Roy could have gone elsewnere but is placating his wife me thinks.
Given the fact that the Hindu-nationalist party just won a big majority in the Indian elections, and they've overseen massacres of Muslims for terrible crimes like eating beef... why do you think Roy's wife, who is Muslim, would be really keen about living in Kolkata? Almost like a gay couple moving to Russia.
I think Roy's the most talented player to play for us, and if he was 29 rather than 31 would have been getting some really interesting offers in Europe. I'd have tuned in to watch him but anywhere, but this does leave me a bit cold, an 18 game season where he should be far the level of player there. The standard of your average Indian club player in this league is very low.
I don't get this move from a footballing perspective, my assumption is he'd want a 3 year contract on good money to set him up but in a league where he would be testing himself at a higher level. The MLS for example would have seemed a great option, good football, good money etc.
If he's happy that's good for him, he's the only one that matters! I'm just disappointed that I'm not going to see him tested against better players, as I think he could have been even better if he'd come into pro football a bit earlier.

Didn't Krishna say in his post that his wife is joining him (unlike here), and that she's maintained her Indian heritage much more closely than him so he's looking forward to them both experiencing it first-hand? Certainly didn't sound like she's horrified by the idea.
Besides, Kolkata has a sizeable Muslim population, I'm sure they'll be fine.
