A-league Expansion - Derbies

4-4-2 n SBS very quiet on cellar dwellers this morning.
Team they want out beat fourth and the bottom Ozzy team blasted 2-8 by a team trying to find finals form
Let’s be fair, we should have won a lot more games then we did this season and had a lot more points on the board. Hopefully recruitment on and off the park in the off season will see us as a top 4 side next season.
More hugs, less drugs.
Hope I'm wrong and you are right......................but if a top 4 side arose out of current overall situation at the Nix I would be astounded.
Newcastle managed to do it.
Is true Dale. But I just imagine that's it's not very common. Esp if you are one of the poorer resourced teams of the League.
But yeah kudos to Eddie & The Jets.
Another stat question for stats suppliers, how many sides have gone from 2nd last (or even last) one season, to top 4 the next season?

Cheers for that, and more common than I thought to be fair. Remember Victory winning after a poor first season.
Hope Nix staff, are looking closely at what has lead turnaround in Noocastle. Certainly room to sweep the broom.
I'd still be astounded, but hope I'm wrong.

“Our model is based around a community asset and that means we don’t have to try and squeeze every last dollar we have to provide a return to an owner or group of owners,” Papakosmas said.
Can't see FFA going with a community funded model.
FFA don't name board member to sit on CRWG
I genuinely hope so. Despite being an old NSL team, they don't have an ethnicity that the FFA will pick on, and are an inclusive club. Better than Southern Sydney anyday.
Oh good, just what we need: bean counters to have more of a say. FFA does not even have a legit mandate to run an expansion process until Congress issues are sorted. What is the timeframe on that, anyone know?

And Papakosmas sure knows how to speak Gallop:
“Sport is built around tribalism, loyalty and pride in your area. We have potential derbies coming out of our ears.
“There’s Newcastle v Wollongong, battle of the steel cities; Central Coast v Wollongong, battle of the coasts; Sydney v Wollongong, big brother little brother and Wanderers v Wollongong, middle brother little brother.
“We have ready made, genuine vitriolic local derbies. With the past in mind Wollongong v Perth is another classic fixture.”
Give this man a Nobel prize for horse-whispering!
Fremantle have launched their bid with a video that contains nothing but stock photos and a voice over.

That is as cringey as cringe can get, the bloke sounds like a stale, pale old Australian fart. Would be hilarious if they replaced us based on that advert lol
I'm hearing Northern Territory outfit Port Dingobum has just lodged an expression of intent.

Heard an interview with them on DFS, and it sounded like the bid has absolutely nothing going for it, except then he said they have $10M in backing from Juventus.
Between that and a WA derby, it could tempt the FFA, although it’d probably be in the next round of expansion.
12 months ago the A-League expansion was put on hold by FFA "We Can't Afford It"
Now as well as Expansion we Have
And SYD FC told they are Shiet
Please A-League let us in we will play nicely

The state of the football nation - AAFC releases report of national consultation
The Association of Australian Football Clubs (AAFC) has today released its long-awaited report of its national consultation with member clubs.
The report, which also acts as the AAFC’s position paper on the state of football in Australia as it impacts on AAFC’s members, the national premier league clubs, after five years of the National Premier League (NPL) competition.
If you take this to it's logical conclusion, there should be a team that represents 14 different catchments, each getting one home game.
The inclusion of Wollongong in their bid seems madness. It's miles away from the other two locations. But because this bid has money behind it, I'm pretty confident it will get a licence.

Of course the Wollongong Wolves are bidding separately themselves, which makes far more sense.
Along with the SEM bid IMO a very very strong growth area.
South Western Sydney

1.5 hours by train. Maybe 2 hrs door to door. Shorter I'd imagine by car on Saturday/Sunday.
I guess similar if you are travelling from Masterton or PN to watch Nix play.
But yes I'm sure locals in the Gong, would prefer the Wolves to be successful with their bid - which may cause some angst if they are perceived as losing out to the Southern Expansion bid.
The current A-League clubs are on record as not wanting expansion at this time, especially before the decisions on an independent A-League have been made. What's to stop the clubs simply telling the FFA they won't accept any expansion and if FFA tries to ram it through, the existing clubs will go on strike. Which would mean no games and no television coverage. Do you really think FFA could win that one? Or would even want to call the clubs' bluff?
Definitely the fault of the Phoenix for not accepting that mythical offer.
Regardless, seems the Strikers don't have enough money. Given the financial criteria I wouldn't be surprised if others pull out.

Yeah, hard to see where all the money would be coming from, seeing as existing clubs in the league have a hard enough time finding it.
This league is just an FFA pyramid scheme why would any club bother if the current 10 know this.
I would think that the A League clubs [even though they don't want it] would need to support expansion and a 2nd division so they can keep the support of the other football groups that are joining them in opposing the FFA.
