Played full 90 in a 2 all draw today against Palace
Winston Reid (Unattached FC)
Conceded two goals and got a yellow card. Contributed zero points to my Fantasy League team. Sheesh. Did have an article about him in the Herald on Sunday, but no points for that.
Started vs Arsenal
2 - 2 @ Halftime
Couldn't do anything about the opener from Ozil
2nd goal wasn't his fault either, covered for his CB partner and was a split second late in attempting the block on Sanchez' shot
___________
Andy Carrol though, good on his day!!
3 - 3
Reacted to ball across box, deflected off Welbeck past Reid to Koscielny who scored.
79" Had a half chance at Arsenal's end, leaping tiger-kick volley into side netting from 3 yards
> Exciting last 10 ahead!
_________
EDIT -
3 all @ Full Time
Solid game for Reid, a couple of crucial blocks and tackles. No notable lapses and had a better game than Ogbonna and Tomkins
Played 90 minutes, won a penalty, and picked up a yellow card in a 2-2 draw with Leicester

Well done on keeping Leicester from winning. Not many have done that.
Good stuff, and it is great to have a Kiwi presence in the world's most high profile football league.
However seems likely he is making himself unavailable for the AWs in PNG, as also seems case with Tommy Smith.
I just hope that all the Smith haters recognise that, ie they are both equal to the SAME criticism
Interestingly if both are unavailable, and they are both using the agrument they need a rest -
Smith has played 45 Championship games this season
Reid has played only 23 EPL games this season (injury plagued)

According to Soccerway this is Reid's injury history over last 12 months.
Hamstring 10/02/16 - 12/03/16
Hamstring 06/12/15 - 11/01/16
Back Injury 21/10/15 - 28/10/15
Hip/Thigh Injury 14/10/15 - 20/10/15
Hip/Thigh Injury 27/09/15 - 02/10/15
Hamstring 24/04/15 - 12/05/15
I'm no physio but is a pattern there. Does it justify making himself unavailable for PNG?
I guess that's one for Hammers/NZFA medical staff to debate.
Indisputable fact is that Reid has played half numbers of games Smith has played this season (admittedly at a higher level). Smith has played 45 matches which is a shark load, plus he turned up in Honiara last time when Reid didn't.
Fail to understand whySmith gets so much more flak than Reid when he makes himself unavailable. He took 12 mths out after the diabolical Mexico playoff buildup & games, but that's as much about frustration with amateur NZF, frustration with Herbert who was still AWs coach, and missing the former 'coach' Nelsen who had retired!
Maybe it's because half Maori Reid, looks and sounds more Kiwi, than pasty looking Smith.
I think it's more that Reid is our best player and plays at a higher level so is given a bit more leeway.
Maybe CT, but I think is unfair that Smith is targeted just because he playing a division lower, away from the EPL glamour yet plays double the games in a season - so you'd agrue in greater need of a break.
Anyway I'm sure his haters/critics will be venting tomorrow when OFC squad is named, and he and Reid are both no shows.
yeah it is unfair. Nelsen also didn't turn up for a lot of AWs games due to conveniently timed injuries but no one goes on about that ever. In fact Nelsen skipped Honiara as well IIRC
Ideally every player would be keen to play every game but we just have to accept that isn't going to happen
fudgeing hell, the lad has just scored one of the biggest goals in West Ham's history and is immediately coded off for not playing some friendlies for the national team.
This last week he has looked massively off the pace - clearly not fit and is knackered by the 60th minute of games. He also looks slower, more laboured when he runs. At the game last night everyone was talking about how he should come off, and not just because he got roasted by Martial for the 2nd Man Utd goal. Thankfully he scored the winner but that should not mask his current fitness.
As an aside, I got so many pats on the back and hair ruffles when the goal went in from all the people around me it was like I had scored the winner.

must've felt like you scored the winner too, Frankie. What a great footballing moment for you to be there to enjoy- a memory for a lifetime.

oh yeah, that really prestigious tournament.
The Oceania Nations Cup (Oceania's poor man's version of the Euros), will mean nothing to your average Hammer supporter, but is critically important to New Zealand football.
The All Whites if they win, will then get 3 games against top opposition at Confederations Cup in Russia next year. Those games will form a vital part of NZ's prep for playoffs v South American 5th ranked team, if NZ make those World Cup inter confederation playoffs as Oceania's top side.
Anyway more than criticising Reid for not going to PNG, it's just saying that likes of him and any other unavailable players like Tommy Smith should all be treated the same.
I didn't see the Hammers v Man U game, but from what you describe Reid sounds like he is struggling with injury again (dodgy hamstrings?)

I don't know what the issue is here. People liked the post about him scoring the winner. Then we talked about whether he'll play for the AWs in our first meaningful games in 3 years. That's all, it's no big malicious thing against the guy or anything, just kiwi football fans talking about kiwi football.
You could also Winston say owes NZ football. Picked from the obscurity of Danish football, and playing at the 2010 World Cup for All Whites, put him in shop window of world football - and lead to West Ham signing him.
Who knows without first playing for the All Whites, Reid may have ended up as a humble swine farmer in Denmark - like Schmeichel is parodied by Reebok in this 1997 advert (for not buying Reeboks). Make good bacon the Danes!
I was surrounded by young babies on my recent Emirates flight back to NZ from the UK (via Brisbane incidentally). Didn't stop them folks flying across the planet. He came here for a meaningless friendly v Jamaica a few years ago so why not for a tournament that's vital to our World Cup build-up?
Answer: because he wasn't selected.
He is the 2nd highest earning sportsman at present, $12 Mil per year, only Russell Coutts in front (just)
Good on ya Winnie
Another dated interview but worth a listen http://www.radiolive.co.nz/All-Whites-skipper-Winston-Reid---is-there-a-rift-in-the-team/tabid/506/articleID/124155/Default.aspx

Rubbish, the media claimed his new contract was 60,000 pounds a week. So Winston will earn around $6 mill. Also Russell Coutts can't be called the highest earning sportsman, he stopped sailing in the America's Cup years ago. At the last America's cup he was the CEO of his team.

Played in West Ham's 2-1 loss to Domzale in Europa League 3rd Qualifying round this morning.
Was fouled for the penalty that WHU scored from so we'll call that an assist. I was watching a stream of it while I was getting ready for work and my 8 week old boy was forever blowing (spit) bubbles throughout so I think he might be a Hammers fan!
Reid played the full 90 mins a few days ago, as Hammers christened their new home at the Olympic stadium with 1-0 win over Bournemouth.
Crowd of 57,000 so already the move from Boleyn Ground is paying off re crowds and I presume gate takings.
Fingers, toes and all that Captain Winnie can enjoy a long extended injury free run.
and not quite so many yellow cards

That weird issue has already been resolved as the club has shown this morning.

yeah - those 50,000 people with season tickets will just stop showing up.
