Chuck Tyler in a dress and let him play for the ferns. Princess MLS hah.
But on topic to Bill - good to see him progressing in that area of midfield too. We need him to kick on well
R Thomas misses out by eleven days. His mate T Boyd misses out by just one day. I blame Declan.
Cam Howieson misses out by 10 days.
Are you serious? That is ridiculous.Imagine if we had those three.
That is just insane.......if we had Boyd and Thomas out wide with Rufer, Ridenton and Tuiloma central we would be on fire at the WC. Can't we get some new birth certificates drawn up? LOL its been done before in age group competitions around the globe
Yeah. Intead we'll have Monty Patterson and Stuart Holthusen trying to raise a smoulder.
Debates going on currently in the Marseille forums (www.lephoceen.fr) whether Bill should start the next match for OM. Tough call for a 19 year old to boss the midfield for a big team like Marseille.....most DM's don't mature until well in to their 20's. However OM coach Beilsa has never had a problem throwing youngsters into the action. Even if he doesn't start Bill is starting to make the right moves at OM...which is great for his career.
LOL...on the U20 AW eligibilty there is no way anyone would ping Ryan Thomas for being overaged.....he looks like a 12 year old.
If Bill is able to hold is own in Marseille and does a good job and is playing regularly, then that solves the AWs CM problem. If he continues to look out of his depth against teams like Thailand or China in the future as in the past you would have to start asking questions about our formation and perhaps the players around him. A starter for Marseille should show up a lot of our other players in the same way Ryan Thomas shows up our other attackers
Tuiloma has been all at sea at DM when he has played there for the All Whites. Admittedly those one off games are probably not the best judge of a young player. I still think Tuiloma could be a good player but I would be surprised to see him starting for a top side in Ligue One.
OM concede a late equaliser, for a 2-2 result.
Tough for OM to concede in the 90th for a 2-2 draw.....ends their 11 match unbeaten home record.
Bill did OK in the 20 minutes he was on the field. He certainly did not look out of place. Playing for a top team like Marseille in one of the better leagues in Europe is a major achievement for a young kiwi. Probably second only to Winston playing for West ham. To do it at the age of 19 is quite remarkable.....and a testimony of Bills talent.
He did look uncomfortable playing for the AW's at DM.....so was it his problem or the team setup/tactics and players around him? or a bit of all of this. But regarding his abilities.....you don't get to take the field for a team like Marseille if you are a dud. if he keeps developing like he is then could end up anchoring the AW midfield for the next decade+

I just don't think it's fair to expect him to command our midfield at 19. Even the best players in the world struggle to do that at 19.
Unfortunately for him, he's basically our one hope in there at the moment. Not much support around him. Would've been ideal if Simon Elliott was 5 years younger!

LOL.....you misdisunderstood me.........thats 11 matches in a row where they won at home.....of course its now 12 matches unbeaten....as duh...a draw is not a defeat.sorry!

A nice little TV piece on Bill from Tagata Pasifika last year - a good lad from a real humble background.
Born in Christchurch and moved to Auckland as a kid I believe.
Highlights of the game Bill made his Ligue 1 debut in on Feb. 7 (might be able to see him at the end):
Hang on, does that number 7 shirt say S D Sampos? Are Marseille even a real team?
Hang on, does that number 7 shirt say S D Sampos? Are Marseille even a real team?
No, they are an "unreal" team in the best sense of the word !
It says "L Ocampos" - Lucas Ocampos, a 20 year-old Argie midfielder on loan from Monaco.
Bill is number 18 and replaced number 7 Ocampos on 86 mins who had come on as a sub on 46 mins.
Bill subbed the sub. Confusing, huh?

Highlights of Marseille's match on the weekend - a high tempo affair!
Bill is there somewhere on he field when they show the last equalizing goal for Stade de Reims:
Sounds like a really humble guy.
"To be able to play for one of the biggest clubs in the French league - it's a massive achievement for me; as a Kiwi, and as an Islander," he says.
"I represent all the Island nations.
"I want to show and encourage the young players to strife for their dreams.
"I get random [Facebook] messages from players from Tahiti and New Caledonia asking me 'how do I do this? You're a big influence for me.'
"I try and help them, by encouraging them to never give up. It's crazy to see those messages, but I'm truly grateful that young players message me and ask for help."
Yeh, nice piece on him in today's Sunday Herald too
Its great to see he has a positive attitude, and is grateful and humble for the support his family and others have made for him to get to where he is. Big respect.

3.55 am Live

As I said in the Chris James thread, i'm a french speaker so i'm able to translate some articles to english of needed.
Bill is on the bench for Le Classique. Olympic Marseille vs the arch enemy, the rich boys from Paris. Huge huge game for the French Championship. Only two points separate OM and Paris in 2nd and 3rd on the table.
Should be an amazing game in front of a record 65,000 plus croud in Marseille. Not sure Bill we get a run unless there are injuries in midfield. OM's usual starting DM is injured so Bill is next cab off the rank off the bench.
Game is at 9pm local time Sunday which is 7 am NZ time(I think) Monday morning. It will be well worth watching....the Marseille croud is amazing and there will be plenty of passion between the two teams. Who knows Bill could come on late and score the winning goal.....The result? Paris will have too much quality right across the park.
Cool.Looks like it is on TAB site too
Spectacular welcome for the teams.
Heartbreaking 2-3 home loss to the Old Enemy PSG
2-2 at 49 mins
2-3 at 51 mins after a Marseilles own goal.
Bill remained on the bench.

Marseilles now third on table, four points behind Lyon and five points behind PSG.
In their remaining seven games, they play fourth, fifth and sixth placed Monaco, Saint Etienne and Bordeaux and eighth placed Lille and tenth placed Nantes, plus the two cellar dwellers Bastia and Metz.
On the bench again for Bordeaux / OM.
It's great that he's part of the first team at a major club like that even if he's not getting much game time.
Playing for Olympique de Marseilles is the French equivalent of playing for Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea.

Not knocking, better saying playing for the 35th best team in Europe: http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2015.html

Might come with similar "baubles of office", so, I think, there is some legitimacy to what Big Pete 65 says.

Those kinds of rankings are highly debatable though - is Porto really the ninth best team in Europe, better than Man Utd, Man City and Juventus? I reckon if Porto played those sides, they would lose. Is Liverpool only the 40th best team in Europe?
Another way of putting it would be he's playing for one of the top teams in the fifth best league in Europe. Not bad.

UEFA co-efficients are just based on teams performance in Europe.
I'm a PSG fan but i have to recognize that playing for Marseille is something quite unique. The atmosphere is surely the best you can find in France with Saint Etienne (since PSG ultra have been banned by the club).
The Tifo before the PSG game was quite extrordinary. I have been to many games at the Veledrome and the atmosphere is always special...especially now the new roof has gone on. Tuiloma must be having an amazing time. For a young kid from Birkenhead it is quite a ride he is having. I sure hope his contract gets extended at the end of this season. THe club is short of money and is in a youth development phase so he has a good chance....especially as he is in the match squads most days
With five games and fifteen points up for grabs, still a lot to play for for Marseilles with the top two in the league making the Champions League group stage and the third-place side entering the Champions League qualifying rounds, while the fourth team enters the Europa League.
They've now lost three games in a row and have had only one win in their last five league games, but a few more wins and who knows?
