No way that is ever a red. Two good goals by Djite though.
agree...no way a red

I nodded off during the second half, woke up in extra time. What was the red for?

I can see why he was given a red cause I looked at this first time and thought 'thats fair enough'. The replays on different angles made it look no where near like a red card.
Found this as well when looking for the highlights.
"Williams, who refereed at this year's World Cup in Brazil, has now sent off nine players in his last 20 games, and booked eight players across the 120 minutes on Tuesday night" Makes it look a bit suss when you have had 9 reds in your last 20 games.
If it's a red on Pekotivc then it should also be a red on the Adelaide player. They basically both do the same thing and catch each other's leg.
Love the quality of refs in the aleague

Of course-- they are a joke.
Bentleigh Greens progress with a 2-1 extra time win over Adelaide City. Glory progressed with a 4-2 extra time win against the Victory.
Was this last night? I always fukn miss these games...
Not sure many people would have had this for their final four, Central Coast Mariners, Adelaide United, Bentleigh Greens and Perth Glory
I think the only one that surprises me at all is Bentleigh given their relative stature. They've never won the Victorian league but went and beat Sydney Olympic and Adelaide City, who are both former NSL champions and have both won their state leagues in recent years. With the A-League clubs it felt like it would be a real lottery given it started in pre-season and you go into most A-league games feeling that either side could win it.
Bentleigh v Glory & Adelaide v CCM
anyone but CCM.
Bentleigh v Glory & Adelaide v CCM
Interesting.
If the Adelaide game is around the 11th it is before our game against them on the 15th. If the Glory game is around the 18th, that would be before out game against them on the 21st. Probably unlikely to happen because our game with glory is on a Friday so would be an extra short turnaround for them.

Honestly, if the 'Nix could have home games, it was not the first time the comp was run and the 'Nix didn't get knocked out early there might be more coverage. Surprised there has been games on SKY. At this stage, maybe a paragraph could be warranted.

I was only saying the game was on tonight and am personally amazed at the coverage especially from the Herald Sun ...
Of the NZ coverage I have no idea TBH or comment one way or the other ... as to Nix's getting no home games... twas Fox who said games must be played in this time slot which ruled out both WA & NZ... also all A-League games against state or lower teams at lower teams home ground... Meaning if the Mighty Mariners can somehow defy the form of both sides and beat AU and Pith beat the BG's then the final will be held in the mega metropolis that is Gosford City [I say city but if truth be known it is a small town]
FFA must be pleased with the coverage and ratings everything seems to be building nicely for the next media deal with two extra teams to be added, the FFA Cup established and after the Asian Cup & the Drive Bys win the ACL ... the ACL will get better coverage and appreciation as well... Rugby in Australia must be wetting itself as they boasted [FFA downplayed the FFA Cup] about their new ARC competition and they averaged less than 2K in crowds and rated only half what the state teams were rating in the FFA Cup...

Oh, but you are happy to comment - and do so regularly. And Perth have played a home game in the FFA Cup! Just NPL teams play at home against HAL teams it seems.
Sure, I am not happy about the coverage of the Phoenix in the media but I get the impression you expect NZ to mimic the coverage in Australia - which is not realistic - we are not going to get much/any coverage of the ACL because no team in NZ can compete in it, we are not going to get as much coverage of the FFA cup because we only have 1 team in it and can't play at home (as soon as we are out what interest in the cup is there apart from the final?) and we don't have as much coverage of the HAL because we only have 1 team with little connection to other teams in Australia. So even though we really should have better coverage of the 'Nix it's not going to be like Australia. If you want more coverage, we need more teams.
Cheers guys, this thread reminded me theres a game on tonight. Should be a cracker too, even though top of the league Perth really arent that good, and havent played any of the other top 4 yet. Going for the underdogs
For tonight's game

Trying to read my mind tis difficult I have enough difficulty understanding myself at time...
No I don't expect NZ to mimic the Australia coverage... I am actually one of the biggest supporters of having a NZ team... also FFA will have enough trouble finding the two extra sides for the next media deal, finding 3 would be near impossible IMO... I should mention I also worked in NZ for just under 4 years on the Marsden Point Refinery and lived in Koma a little part of Whangerie in the lol winter-less north...
My thoughts are reasonably well known, and in simple terms Football is starting to gain real traction in Australia and growing quite quickly, In NZ growing but at a slower pace and I wonder if it goes un treated [wrong term] say with limited growth will the A-League growth leave NZF behind.... I don't pretend to know the solutions nor even the issues but to ignore as not important would be foolish...
My team the Mariners are also under very similar pressure with the often suggested move to Northern Sydney akin to similar stories about Nix and Auckland... however a move to say North Sydney, the history of the Northern Spirit says a team would be huge ... The NS averaged crowds in its first years as an NSL team greater than most A-League clubs today ...
I accept my natural instinct is to look at Stats and management maybe in overkill but that's my nature and my job as well and has nothing to do with the Nix or any other team...
Maybe I should explain a client of mine [I am a CPA] is employed by one of Australia's largest public listed companies who advertise extensively across a number of platforms... He is the director in charge of statistical analysis of trends and directions and advises his board on how much to sponsor various things including sport ... He has a vast knowledge of all sports and he tells me all sorts of interesting stuff we seem to go out to lunch often turning into dinner when he comes up from Melbourne.... On all the major sports deals with the AFL, NRL, SANDZAR, Tennis etc he sits in the meetings between his board and the board of the code in sport he sat in on the last 3 AFL & NRL & SANDZAR media deals as an example and advised his board on how much to sponsor... Over way too many Hunter Reds we have discussed the affect of media on ratings, crowds, sponsors etc... Before his current position he was employed in a similar role by one of Australia's and the world largest media companies in a similar role ... So by nature and interest I post these things but do not have the motive of some seem to say I have ...
Sky Sports 3 are showing the game live right now.

Nebo is rather good at these free kicks
Guy at the end of the wall ducked.
Perf leading 2:0, not straining themselves too much, but nonetheless good game to watch having in mind the difference in level.
Winner tonight will most likely host the FFA Cup Final, as the FFA have indicated that Perth is unlikely to host because of the time zone issues for TV coverage.

PRETTY GREEN - FOOTBALL'S HOMECOMING
Franky is pretty much on the money with the comments - while A-League is a sleek professional machine compared with the old NSL, there are still a lot of committed people out in the 'burbs tirelessly keeping the small (often ethnically accented) clubs going strong, with little money.

Piss poor crowd at Coopers by the looks of it. Can't be more than 3-4k
See you can't really blame the media for not covering an Australian sporting event which is only big enough to get 4,000 along to in a city the size of Adelaide. The FFA Cup has been a success don't get me wrong but it isn't going to be the thing which makes football huge in Australia. One of the definite problems is that teams already play each other at least 3 times a season which is enough for most people.
I would say the midweek game are a bigger contributer.
it seems like the preseason cup used to be in a way.
The final will get a few more, but still not a large attendance.
Chatham cup is still better.
