I actually think Chch temp stadium has the edge there on proximity to the pitch.

Except the last time we went there, only about 3000 people bothered to turn up.
It’s Hamilton stadium for me. Amazing pitch, great selection of seating. Vinnie scoring screamers. Can’t beat it.

It is rectangular with good view from any height of the seating. Poor access by public transport but manageable.
Can see why they needed last weekend to prepare that stage set up.

That's one bloody impressive stage setup, pretty cool really.

Can see why they needed last weekend to prepare that stage set up. And why the turf needs to be replaced.

The very best ground for atmosphere is Forsythe Barr. The roof keeps the noise in and you are right up beside the pitch in all four sides.

Hamilton wasnt available.
I think the key to remember is Palmerston North was the only stadium that would make it work that weekend in new zealand.
They even looked at Nelson and Taupo etc. but either stadium not available or the travel couldn't be lined up.
The fact they left the decision so late shows they spent time researching available options, Domey isnt the idiot everyone seems to assume he is.
It has been said multiple times so can we please stop the rehashing of "why wasnt it here".

Hopefully that doesn't bite us in the ass with VAR intervening less with calls we should get but the same on others.
Interesting DOGSO chat on the pod. Hadn’t considered it as VAR overturning because of a clear goal scoring opportunity. Which is a higher standard than if the ref had originally given it.
But as well for coaches and players the repercussions of bad calls can be severe.
Payne is in a fight to be a starting A league player which is crucial for his career. The Phoenix are trying to be sustainable as a club.
These are bigger stakes than the refs are facing imo.
You get to a point where you look at the referee appointment and don’t go to the game because the players won’t decide the game and the enjoyment of the spectacle is gone.
Interesting to see that the Phoenix are appealing. We’ve seen the refs be a law unto themselves at times. They need to be accountable to someone as the consequences don’t fall evenly.
Particularly as the amazing VAR didn’t manage to see Oli getting kicked. Or his shirt getting ripped.
Perhaps there’s a reason we haven’t won anything and that is Roy’s goals /runs we’re called offside, or Alex King stops enforcing the LoG after Uli missed his pen or Chris Payne’s handball goal wasn’t called, but the league is happy for our owners to keep pouring their money in. Maybe it doesn’t all come out in the wash.
