Not sure about Dave's 'metrics' rant re AW coach...
Phoenix City - Farewell
In what respect?
well just very short sighted comments probably due with having some love affair with Des.
Metric 1 - he won the last ISPS over Ramon, Jose, Temple.
Metric 2 - his history in the game wipes the floor with any of those foreigners mentioned
I mean that's a pretty interesting take to be left with from me saying I'll wait and see how Danny goes and specifically stating I think he could go well and hope he will. I don't think Danny is a bad coach at all.
But I was unaware we judge managers on a "last championship wins" basis rather than looking at their actual records and I'm sure rather a few public servants would be stoked to hear their dedication will be simply judged on years in tenure.
I was careful to play the process and not the man. He could go great but if the best comms we can manage is that he's a great kiwi and "just the second person to captain and coach the national team" I think it's hardly unreasonable to wonder how that was our main criteria and not some of those other more manager related things we have to go on.

If you are talking playing history - fair enough, but being a good player doesn't necessarily make you a good coach
Otherwise lets look at the coaching records
Jose -
1 x Oceania Champions League
2 x ISPS Handa Premierships
1 x Northern League
1 x National Youth League
NZ U17 coach (twice)
Ramon -
1 x 3rd place FIFA World Club Cup
7 x Oceania Champions League
3 x ISPS Handa Premierships (Finals)
6 x ISPS Handa Premiers (League)
Danny -
1 x ISPS Handa Premiership
NZU17
Sacred Heart College
It doesn't, but you could argue that Hay's international playing experience trumps all off that (let's be honest - all that isn't particularly impressive apart from Ramon's CWC). Plus he has been there, done that, with the AWs.
What country doesn't prefer a born and bred national coach?

one that wants to win games (or at least play some in NZ's case!)

I mean I addressed both of the strawmen you created with the same sentence.
I'm not sure much further detail can be provided than actually listening to what I said and wrote rather than creating a different version and expecting me to discuss it.
If been born here and having played for the AWs is enough of a reason for him to be the best candidate in your mind that's totally fine? As I've said I hope he goes well.

Absolutely!

To remind you, you said 'any metric you could have been making this decision - Danny wasn't the best choice. So how you picked him I'm not sure'.
So, pick the coach purely on the number of internationals they played for their country? That's pretty outstanding logic even for the Fever forum.
Playing experience is an awful metric for coaching ability, may as well use their height or hair follicle count (I have Danny and Des winning one of those each)
Fact is, based on coaching CVs Danny shouldn't have had a shot. Don't want to put words in Dave's mouth, but that's what I thought he was saying and I'd have to wholeheartedly agree.
Don't let Huddo see that. He'll have his Wikipedia updated before you can say Vaughan Coveny.

If you want to be deliberately obtuse then sure. Ryan Nelsen is also a football manager born here that captained the All Whites and played for a greater number of years and earned more caps. But we both know such an argument is just plain silly.
Edit: In fact Ryan also beats out Danny for number of 'n's in his name too if that's a metric you'd like to raise? I guess I'd concede defeat if we go with the letter 'd' though.

your logic is you discount someone's time in the elite game. you don't think people can draw on their experiences?
so if Hay pays his own taxi fares he will be a great coach. sweet
Are you bored at work, Feverish?

I guess if we wanted to concede 100 + goals we would go with your advice :)
Wait you mean mangerial record does matter? I'm so confused!

Without going back to listen again I believe I discussed three metrics. Probably not as succinctly as I could have however...
Managerial record - which if we go on ISPS Handa record then Ramon likely leading candidate
Development of youth - in which case Declan likely front runner, but some debate could be had.
National coaching dedication and performances - in which case Des probably wins out (it's closer though for sure and I'd certainly listen to dissent on this one) but Danny bailing on a tournament to shop kids around doesn't help him surely?
I guess Danny showed up with the best powerpoint presso though?
It's all about the slide transitions
is age a metric?
Did he use that sweet Origami transition with a custom NZ Football Background?
Wait wait did he embed a video?!?!?!?!?!?!

Or, as actually happened, having to prioritise a trip with his employer that was arranged before the coaching changes for the U-17s were implemented.
That's pretty generous framing given the situation but it's really neither here nor there in the broader discussion. It's hardly a cause for blacklisting him but I really don't think anyone can actually see it as a point in his favour either right?

Well, it's a more accurate framing. He had the school trip then became U17 coach, but couldn't do that U17 trip as a result of the prior commitment. It's not like he was U17 coach, locked in the U17 trip, then the possibility of the school trip arose and he went and did it instead.

I don't know. Personally I found it very brave and revolutionary.
is age a metric?
Yes... if you're old enough you're pre-metric
I thought Pre Metric would be for youngsters, Ex Metric for us oldies ;)

I think Remon would have had Ivan Vicelich as his assistant so that would counter Metric 2
Ella Reilly returns to the pod to chat about the prospects of a Phoenix team in the W-League, and with just over a week until the season start, the pod launch into part one of their season preview, looking at the squad changes the Nix have made.

I thought it was just me, something's obviously happened when Patrick's edited it :D
They are all talking fast so I am guessing it was left on 1.5x or 2x speed.
Thanks for the pod chaps
Haha something fun has certainly happened with the speed here...
I'm sure Pat will sort it when he wakes - probably left it set to the speed he listens at for editing purposes.
alternative theories- the time plane on which you are moving has a distinct speed setting from it's surrounding time locations
