I'm sure he is a great bloke - certainly not trying to disparage him. That's just the info Iheard a year or so ago when he did a short stint with team.
That's right he trialled last year, when Uffie was coach. I still was hoping they might give him another chance considering. Sasse and Elliot have departed and Old is still injured. All right side players like JHS.

Also it might be a last chance with the Auckland franchise on the way.
I'm all for those times and I think that was a reason why crowds didn't get that big was the Sunday 3pm kick offs. Saturday footy will be finished for most by then, still early enough for families but late enough in the day if people are busy during the day they can still come also maybe encourage students to come before going out that night. Will be interesting to see if it does help with crowds.
7 of 12 away games kicking off after 9pm is ridiculous. The Perth 11.45pm is so far beyond a joke, just another example of a dog shark decision from the A-Leagues. (Understand this is the earliest kick off time that Glory men have this season, but if the Glory woman can kick off at 2pm Perth time, so can the men)
The Warriors were only given 2 9pm or later kickoffs this season by the NRL (1 of which was on ANZAC day, the other on an Origin affected weekend where 2 early kick offs are removed). The breakers in the upcoming season have 4 of 12 away games tipping off after 9pm (NBL have weekday games / 2 games per week so no ability to have early weeknight games in Aus) so it just goes to show what semi capable organisations can do.

they're mostly 9.45pm games, so they finish at about midnight NZT

Gutted about the WU away first weekend of December. Was going down for a childfree weekend to Wellington for a concert was hoping I could make a proper weekend trip of it with a Phoenix game to boot. Oh well better have a sit down with the wallet tonight and explain there's going to be two trips down to Welington this summer

Ummmmm TV for the rest of the country? It's a home game for Perth so they want as many of their fans to be able to be at the stadium, 1145NZT is 645WAUT. Literally complaining about everything you can find right now and the season hasnt even begun.
Personally as a viewer I like the late away games (even the Perth ones). Probably bad for the team though having to constantly adjust playing times to different timezones.
With the Perth (and Adelaide) game the important thing is where you are the week before.
This year both follow an away game so can be turned into a 2 week trip. Ideally they'd be Sun-Fri scenarios rather than Fri-Sat (8 days) for the Perth trip and Fri-Thu ( 6 days over New Years) for the Adelaide trip. New Years Eve team-bonding in Sydney for team I suspect.

You can't say I am literally complaining about everything when the post is about one single issue - Away kick off times. I just have a lot of detail to add to it because it has been the same issue for years, and I follow 2 other NZ teams in Australian leagues who don't get bent over (as much) by the Admin.
I don't know what "ummmm TV for the rest of the country" means
645pm is not even close to an early kick off. 3pm - 5pm is very very common in Australian sports. The last time the Warriors played in Perth it was a 3.30pm kick off local, 7.30pm NZT
A lot of Friday night games. I don’t mind that for away games, but makes it difficult for out of town fans to get to home games on a Friday. Two Sunday home games are a pain as well. Late night for travellers who want to be back for work Monday. Also don’t mind the times, most of the 9:45 ones are Friday nights and I have no pressing need to get up early on Saturdays.

I too follow the Warrioirs and they are have been "screwed over" by the league for decades, including getting paid lip service for spending all of COVID in aus and saving the league and getting nothing in return. Almost every post you've made in different threads is a complaint about something, this one is kick off times, others it's signings or lackj thereoff. Give it a break man!

The problem is that we can't be the only club that gets what we want. The club have said this before - they get asked what times they want for the home games and they give their preferred times - they ask us this every end of season. The league then schedules the games accordingly, sometimes we get loads of Friday night games cos that attracts the boys who go out on the town aftewards, but then that draws complaints, then we get some Saturday games but then another group complains about not being able to attend for x,y,z..... then Family friendly sunday games get given to us and everyone launches in because work on Monday. I dont think I've seen a schedule come out in the 16 years I've followed the Nix that everyone has just been happy with - people are so ready to moan and complain "what about me?" - without thinking about how tough it is for whoever creates the schedule to make it all work - it's beyond complicated with so many moving parts across different cities and two countries.
Every game is an away game if you don’t live in Wellington., so wasn’t complaining. Saturday 5:30 is as good as it gets for me. Sundays, meh, so I get home late. Others may not like that, but most travellers pick which games the go to. Friday home games impossible to get to without taking a half day. But then, away games are impossible too. I guess that’s why they broadcast the games.

Have to consider temperature and factors like that, like there were complaints about the women playing in high 30s degrees often in afternoon matches. That's not a factor so much in the winter NRL or AFL, as it's not hot in July, the NBL is inside of course with air conditioned arenas and then cricket has always been a summer sport and is tailored to it.
It's also not just the players who suffer in the heat, it makes in miserable for the fans to sit in blazing temperatures without shade, so they don't come and you make less money. I can think of Adelaide especially being like this.
So, how do people rate of chances of progressing further in the Aus cup on Sunday. Big ask against Mel City. Still 8 weeks out from start of season proper.
We've beaten them twice in this comp (I think) certainkly beat them last year, they are in the same place as we are, 8 weeks out from the league so no reason why we shouldnt be able to beat them again.

Really weird behaviour getting grumpy at someone over multiple threads anyway. Play the ball not the man.

I play the comments rather than the man, and you may well be getting the wrath of being one of many of late who are complaining about everything and anything. It's been getting very annoying and frustrating - and dont get me wrong I'm one of the first raise issues as I see them. But some of the things people are getting upset about lately (ie 2022-2023) are daft and out of the club's control so theres no real point in getting agsty about it,

Agree with Prof here. Our chances are about as high as theirs this early in the season. Remember as well they've been stripped of players worse than the Nix have - i think we'll over half of their starting line up.
Of course we're also playing the Melbourne City setup/organisation which is better than ours. I'd give them a slight edge just based off their first cup match which they won within the 90 (I think - but they didn't win easily)
1-0 win against Olympic after 90m, Zawada well taken goal. They played an extra 45m at end with both clubs reserve sides/left over subs. Was 2-0 when I left with about 10m to go in that little mini game.
Phoenix looked ok, tidy enough in possession but not very exciting going forward except when they countered, frustratingly would always seem to go forward at great speed on the counter only to turn around and start playing backwards again. When in possession was mostly sideways or backwards passing nobody really breaking the lines. Wide players in Kosta and Ball seem very hesitant to take players on in 1v1 situations. Thought Mo AlTaay looked decent in the middle scrappy little ball winner Devlin styles, certainly offers much more than Pennington does. Kelly Heald an absolutely torrid time with Jack Henry Sinclair and got turned around by him way too many times. No Wootton so Rufer played CB to start with. All in all nothing too exciting, perhaps still building partnerships etc but I don’t really buy that as a lot of these guys have played together already heaps.
Thanks for the update 👍 Two things I take out of that. 1) Happy to hear Al-Taay was playing his normal/natural position as a sound ball-winning '6' 2) I don't know what the hell Jack-Henry Sinclair has to do to get a look in? Falls into that extremely small group of players who has consistently been excellent at Central/National League level, but all doors leading higher up seem to be shut... Frustrating.

Thanks v much for this. Surprising to me that Rufer subbed in centre back. Surely Surman and Hughes would need the practice.

He only played the first 45m at CB, Mo only played 45m and then went off so second half it was Rufer and Pennington in the middle. Hughes came on he was ok if not unspectacular. Seemed on the small size for a CB and got bullied a few times by Hamish Watson. Interestingly too Nix started with Jack Duncan in goal for most of the game, not sure if this points to him being the starter for the season.
Regarding Jack HS, I wonder if he's also decided he's too old to make the jump into professional football? I personally think he was hard done by in the past but such is life. As far as I know he has a good, stable job. He might not want to chuck that in for a chance to play pro football for what 3-4 years? Between the possibility of injuries and being classed as an overseas player in the A-League, there are no guarantees he'd have a long career. The likes of Riera, Siggy etc all took a bit to get up to speed (rightly so) so he might just be happy with his career and extra earning potential from winter football and Handy Prem...
JHS trialled at the Nix last year. Someone posted on here some rumour that he didn’t fit in “culturally” or similar. Whatever that means. But also sounds like young Conchie had a little falling out with Talay. So who knows there may have been some guys that came in and just clashed with Uffie or didn’t fit in for whatever reason
I see Zawada is insta posting from the Gold Coast. Have we got a game over there?
Pennington and Old appear to be holidaying North of Auckland, too, so it's looking like they might all be enjoying a few days off.
I've got to say, though, I cringe at seeing Zawada buying into the superior Australian weather narrative. Wonder which team will offer him the best sea views on a subsidised lease if he plays well this season?

Can't blame the man with this welly wind we've got at the moment. I'd like to escape it too.
