CAF orders replay of African Champions League final after VAR madness
VAR - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
For more context on the situation, here is the video of it https://streamable.com/56qxo
African Champions League final. Second leg. First leg was 1-1, second is 1-0. The away team scores the 1-1 (2-2) but it is ruled offside. After about a minute the away team (Wydad) players started demanding VAR, referee doesn't budge. The VAR screen that was working before the game, has suddenly been smashed and doesn't work. Sorry, no VAR. Wydad players then refuse to play. Referee hands Esperance the win.
Result should've stood, imo. Not sure how the Laws apply here but if you walk off the pitch you are forfeiting the game.

“Clear and obvious still remains – it's an important principle. There should not be a lot of time spent to find something marginal”
“If something is not clear on the first sight, then it's not obvious and it shouldn't be considered”
“IFAB general secretary Lukas Brud says such decisions are in breach of the laws of the game which suggest attacking teams be given the benefit of doubt in line-ball situations”
Finally some common sense. Stopping the game for 5 minutes to determine whether a player was 2.1cm offside is the definition of a farce.
My barber will be happy if they implement this as I'll finally shut up about how much I love var in general minus when they use it to rule that someone was offisode by a hair's breadth
What's everyone's take with the VAR red card in the City - Judas game?
Harsh decision for me given a yellow and penalty had already be awarded even though the player had clearly fallen over.
It wasn't a red, should have stayed with the original onfield decision, which was correct.
It needs to answer all the below for DOGSO and if it can't, then the teaching says to go with the lesser punishment. In this case it would be SPA (stopping a promising attack).
DENYING AN OBVIOUS GOAL SCORING OPPORTUNITY
For DOGSO I don't think you can 100% say all has been answered. Questions are direction since it's not going towards goal but across box. If you argue that it was going to another attacker to shoot, then you can also argue the "no more than one defender" since two defenders are tracking back and one was close. They are just as likely, could have intercepted it, or maybe block the shot.
This VAR shouldn't have said it was an obvious error and then the onfield call was correct
Couple of questions.
1) (non-VAR related) I've noticed we seem to get getting Sarah Jones as our lino at pretty much every home game? I actually think she does a good job, but I'm just curious if anyone knows why she's pretty much assigned to the Nix nowadays? Thought they rotated the ref team every week?
2) VAR can make a ruling in regards to red card. If someone is on a yellow and gets adjudicated to have committed a second bookable offence (wrongly) and receives a second yellow card, Can VAR intervene in this situation?
3) Not a question, but an interesting VAR situation whereby an Italian referee (a friend of my best mate actually), awarded a penalty after talking on the radio with the VAR as both his ear piece and the VAR screen pitch side were not working.
Couple of questions.

she's a kiwi so it makes sense to have her at our games....

Sarah Jones does a good job, she gets it right. Unlike a certain other lino nicknamed "Offside" because he gets it wrong half the time.
I'd like to see us get that female ref. On her debut game she got every decision correct and took no crap from the players.
I thought the offside she called against us in the first half was interesting. Really shows the influence of VAR, she knew she had him offside, but still doesn't raise her flag to let play finish and we scored. Then she raises her flag and leaves it for VAR to confirm.
AS Good a Place as Any for this:
FIFA (along with IFAB by the look of things) is permitting temporary changes to the laws to assist competitions in completing their seasons:
- An option to stop using the video assistant referee system because of safety concerns over officials working together in a small room for the duration of matches.
- Up to 5 subs per team in a game to assist with injury and fatigue. To minimise disruptions there will only be three opportunities permitted to make subs, plus half time (presumably meaning double subs will be necessary).
- If all five subs are used and competition rules allow it, a 6th (+1) sub will still be permitted if extra time occurs.
Individual competition organisers have the option to use (or ignore) these temporary variations.
Makes sense for A league to adopt if teams are going to be playing 3 games a week. Be interesting without VAR for a while.
If the A league goes for the extra subs it will be great for the likes of Waine, Sutton etc

Pretty disruptive for team play though. I'd prefer it to stay as is
I've seen it in Serie C over the last couple of years. It's not so bad as all 5 subs must be made over 3 intervals and games aren't disrupted too much.
I'm more worried about leagues discontinuing VAR.. It took us a long time to get it and I don't really want to lose it
