i don't mind being boring if we win the A-League.
The path to the GF winners' podium is littered with teams that played entertaining football.
Just ask Melbourne Victory.

So Ufuk wants us to play like SFC, very boring and become thugs.
He did say that he wants us to play an attacking style of football, but also said it will be like the smurfs. So a bit of an oxymoron there.
Part of the reason why nothing he said re: style made any sense. I suspect any style will be dictated by what players we bring in.
Really curious to see what formation Talay wants to play have a feeling it'll be a 4 four at the back and formation that doesn't involve wingers.
Would have been nice to get something in the press conference. Except we get a rather inane 'compact at the back, but attacking'. Does that mean three at the back is his preference? Or perhaps a four at the back with two screening DM's? Who fudgeing knows!
Ernie said he liked to play with two wide forwards, Rudan said he liked an attacking midfield pivot (or two). We don't really know what Talay prefers to play like.
Just watched the interview.
Playing style is clear, play attacking and try to score, be compact when defending, avoid getting goals and try to win back the ball fast as possible to attack again.
Not sure if this is '/s' or not.
Still unclear to me what formation, what key tactical or player strength he tries to impose on the game.
FFS, I would be okay with catenaccio. If he said that then at least we would know if recruitment was making sense!

Any coach will tell you that all of those things depend as much on the players as the coach. No matter what shape/style Uffie wants to play he has to have then right players for it. Why make public statements now, before he even know who he is trying to fit in?
What a ridiculous thing to gripe about.
Also, going by the highlights of Talay in charge of Oz U20, he likes plan A to be 'winning pens and missing them', with plan B being 'swing it in to the big man in the box'.

Presumably he convinced someone at the club that he has a preferred playing style. Not sure why that should be a secret.

TBH the way that Australian U20 team development went in contrast to the U20 AWs, maybe we need Buckingham not Talay. Mind you he handed the baton over to Ante Milicic a while ago.

maybe he wont play just one shape, he'll adjust according to the opposition and the squad he has - you know have a plan b and c.
The picture that the press is trying to paint is that he's a tactical genius. So maybe he's going for flexibility.
FFS he has hardly had time to put his feet under the desk.Hardly has any players signed think most of the guys arnt due back for a few weeks and some of you are bitching about how he is going to play. Lets get a team signed then some of you genus's might ne able to work what its going to look like. Fark its going to be another looooonnnnnggggg off season.
I wonder if any other A League team has been so gutted so soon at the end of a season? Not talking about the peripheral players but first team regulars.
Rufer was ostracized and the previous management team tried to drive him out not develop him. I think his own determination and Rudan’s obvious influence made him the player he was this year. Funny how ‘fans’ on here now think he like Fenton are some of the best local players. They both would have been lost to the club if not for Rudan. Ernie, Greenacre, Buckingham et al didn’t do much development as far as I see it.
I thought Rufer had issues with Merrick too

It's possible Rufer just grew up and his unsuccessful attempts to get a place o'seas made him realise he needed to buck up his attitude.

Hopefully Ufuk knows what an opportunity he's got with these kids coming through.
I hope we don't regret not picking Buckingham.
Interesting listening to him talk to piney yesterday. He's pretty tight lipped on information about signings which is fair enough, but he did say that the positions he was looking at for imports was a striker, another centre back and another 10. Perhaps this means he wants to set up in a similar formation to what Sydney deployed, with two 10s drifting wide. He also said that we are talking to McCowatt and a number of others from the u-20s, which is promising

So maybe we would play something like a 3-4-2-1, similar to the game where Willo got his hatty?
Talay looking to be more of a doer than talker so far...

Hasn't done a whole lot yet
Made more signings than Rudan had at this point.

His season just finished, I expected he is in vacation (like many other players), planning a move, getting the club organized etc
He signed already some players, for me looks like he is working. Not sure what people expect? Send us his weekly timesheet?

I am happy to give him lots of leeway to get his family move properly sorted.
If his kids are of school age this alone is a bit of work.
There is lots going on with recruitment.

I don't expect him to have much done; I'm just saying how can you say he's a 'doer' when he hasn't really 'done' anything?
