SOCCEROOS defender Mark Milligan is on the verge of signing for Melbourne Victory on a short-term loan.

Victory was last night awaiting final paperwork from Milligan's Japanese club JEF United for a loan deal until March 25, the last home-and-away game of its A-League season.

Melbourne Heart coach John van �t Schip is set to leave the club following the completion of his contract at the end of the current Hyundai A-League season.

The AFC Ajax legend informed Heart�s board and management on Tueday that he has decided to return home to Europe.

Heart chairman Peter Sidwell paid tribute to the Dutchman, saying the values and ethos he brought to Heart will forever remain part of the fabric of the club.

�John arrived in Melbourne with a clear vision for the establishment of this Club, as a proponent of the fundamental belief in challenging the status quo by demonstrating the importance of developing youth and instilling an ethos underlined by playing attractive, attacking football," Sidwell said.

�Drawing on the methods of former mentors Johan Cruyff and Louis van Gaal, John duly delivered on his promise, offering unparalleled opportunity for development and growth to some of our most exciting young talents, in addition to uncovering a number of diamonds in the rough.

�We are grateful to John for his on and off field contribution to our Club, and hope the end of his tenure doesn�t mark the end of a relationship, but simply an evolution of our current one.�

Appointed as Heart�s inaugural Head Coach in October 2009, van �t Schip arrived in Melbourne with a mandate to implement an overarching football philosophy, designing the blueprint which would ultimately be identified as integral to the club�s identity.

Heart said they will immediately start their search for van 't Schip's replacement, with a view to having a candidate in place for the next pre-season.

I don't think he will continue. There has been rumors that Graham Arnold hasn't been paid, so could tear up his contract and jump ship to Sydney.

Lots more money there I guess. Would be interesting to see how both CCM and Sydney perform in the league if Arnold switches, I've always wondered how much of an influence Arnold is on how well CCM are doing. They don't seem to have amazing players, but they always get the job done, even if it isn't to the same spectacle as watching an on form Roar team is.

Was that a permanent change or just for this season?

Was supposed to be like this for a couple of years, but now ACL says they will review allocations at end of this season, then not touch it for 2-3 years.

- Adelaide were in with Chonburi (THA), a Chinese team, an Indonesian team, & Pohang (KOR) for the playoff draw.
- The Chinese pulled out in protest at losing an automatic spot
- The Indonesians were disqualified because their FA is incompetent, or corrupt, or because the qualifying team joined a breakaway/rebel league. Something like that.

That left three teams. Adelaide were drawn out of the hat first, and given automatic entry in to the ACL. Pohang host Chonburi on Feb 18th for a playoff.

I think I've read the  Indonesians have taken their case to the CAS, who have just this week found in their favour. Adelaide may be forced into an last minute playoff. There are appeals etc being considered.

Just read the above stuff, Adelaide United have a playoff this Thursday at home against the Indonesian team to see who goes through to the ACL.

Wonder if he is looking for a contract for next season. They have no import slots open for this season, unless they ship Carlos off early.

Fox Sport last night were saying Carlos is now close to signing a new deal. Who knows what to believe.

No. can't have  a guest player in the last few week of he season.  I think it is 6 weeks IIRC.

Wasn't Slory on a guest contract? He played from round 25 for Adelaide last season and in the finals.

It is probably something that should be removed in the future, it is just open to abuse.

Also for the Glory Mehmet & Burns re-signed. That means one of McGarry or Andrezinho will be missing out for next year.

Yeah so they can play in the final series but they have to be registered before the 4th to last week of the regular season.  Previous rule was that you couldn't play in the last 4 weeks or the final series.
