STRUGGLING A-League club Newcastle Jets are in more turmoil with players at the club believed set to hold a private meeting today. The Australian understands a number of players have lost patience with coach Phil Stubbins and are prepared to take their issues to the club.
It comes in the wake of the embarrassing 7-0 loss to Adelaide United on Friday night.
The Jets have had a horrific season on and off the field.
They are second from the bottom of the table with just one win in 15 games and have little hope of making the finals even though there are still 12 rounds left.
Stubbins, an A-League coach in waiting for a number of seasons, finally got his chance when appointed to the Jets role at the start ofthe season. But it has been a tough initiation for him.
The team’s poor form and the fact that the club has released a number of players mid-season has turned the pressure back on him.
It has been just as disastrous off the field with chairman Ray Baartz and CEO Robbie Middleby resigning recently.
All this has been played out amid a backdrop of concern over the ownership of the club.
The Jets are owned by the controversial Nathan Tinkler, who admitted last year that he could not wait to get rid of the club.
However, he did a backflip recently, saying he didn’t want to sell the club and that he is determined to get it out of the doldrums.
Scottish club Dundee United are believed to be interested in buying the club, but not for the believed asking price of $5million.
