Foley obviously likes the name Black Knights (that Westpoint thing) but he's no fool. If lots of Kiwis tell him (politely to the man with all the dosh), that any Knights moniker is a bad idea he'll listen. His start up Vegas ice hockey team are the Golden Knights, so seems he made a part concession there.
You don't want the whole team naming becoming a dumb negative sideshow, to the hugely positive news that NZ is about to have a 2nd A League club. Maybe he'll get Mt Smart rebranded to Black Knights Stadium or something. Or just Black Knights emblazoned like a sponsor on the team kit. I prefer a simple Auckland FC, or Auckland FC Rovers. Always liked the hooped Blackburn kit.
When the Knights were replaced by a new club in Wellington in 2007, a Stuff Limited newspaper, The Post, called for readers to submit names and published a list of 250 contenders, including the eventual choice of Wellington Phoenix. The Wellington Ninja Knights was the only suggested name to incorporate that of its predecessor.
Then-owner Terry Serepisos settled on Phoenix after it finished second to FC Wellington in a reader poll run by The Post, as it reflected the fact that the new club was "rising from the ashes" of the Knights.
Yipes, that's pretty close to a fascist Black Sun design in the background there
Yeah it’s a little too close for comfort, just a default design on canva though. A real logo would be better off with a koru or tukutuku style pattern.
You certainly are the expert on historical facist regalia Doloras. But yeah those designs above are far more ancient Greek, than anything else. Hopefully Foley gets some sound NZ advice that use of a Knights moniker would not be smart.

You have to be when actual real Hitler-heiling fascists have doxxed you and your friends with threats of violence.

For the name, if the team is to be part of a footballing group, then the name will come from the group and local considerations carry little weight. "Melbourne City" weren't going to turn around to the City Group and say we would like to stay as "Melbourne Heart" please. Change to City and fit in with New York City, Mumbai City, Montevideo City and understand your place in the scheme of things
Same also applies to colours. Melbourne Heart/City changing to play in sky blue like other members of the City Group.
I'm guessing the Black Knight Football group teams will play in Black, Gold, Gray/White similar to the Vegas Golden Knights and the Army Black Knights college football team (and Auckland United!). Unless perhaps the branding point is black stripes, in which case you might have Bournemouth continuing in red and black stripes, and hence Auckland Black Knights are in navy blue and black stripes . i.e take Bournemouth kit and replace red with navy blue.

hasn't happened with the bournemouth team (yet), having said that Foley is only a part owner so has less influence on the name/kit etc. Assuming he is the sole owner of the auckland franchise he has clearly stated the "knights" tag is a thing he likes and is likely to carry though all his teams.
As for the badges in posts above, they look like spartans not knights. I'd had for a logo to carry an image that was no correct to the name. Like Los Pumas, when the image is a jaguar.

Well the Golden Knights logo is quite Spartan which is where I assume he was getting it from. Blame Bill.
Black for the tarmac of our roads and blue for the places it has flooded…
Partly a Western United parody. Lol- though they’ve deleted the original announcement and it’s mostly gone from the net so RR thanks! IMG_6004.jpeg334.87 KB
That’s a cool shirt design. The blue and black stripes works well. As an Inter Milan supporter…..yes. You can feel a certain buzz and positivity already about the Auckland deal even though it’s early days. I don’t think it’s a threat to the Nix. The intercity rivalry will be fantastic. The Nix will have to up their publicity game if they want to avoid being swamped by Auckland. Dome is a good CEO in terms of running the club but he is no Tony Pignata when it comes to creating a constant media buzz. The Nix can no longer squat on being the only pro football club in NZ. This will be important in everything from the media to sponsorship.
Who’s hearts and minds will Auckland be wanting to capture as a NZ fan base, outside of Auckland? I am thinking about people like myself who live outside of Auckland and Wellington but have lived and worked in both places. I hitched my wagon to The Nix when they formed and are waiting to see what heart strings pull the hardest come the time to choose. When NZ first played in the A League, I lived in Brisbane and went to the first game NZ v Roar with the intention if the Roar being my team. I just couldn’t support the Roar v NZ and had to have them as my second team and only supported them when they weren't playing NZ. I do recall both Bazely and Emblen ( excuse any spelling errors) having good games in that first match.
Do you think you can support both Kiwi teams at the same time?

Personally reckon you can definitely support both. As a Wellingtonian I’ll never support Auckland over the Phoenix, but I’ll definitely be cheering for them over any Aussie teams.
I’ll be a nix supporter first, always. But as I live near the Tron, having an A Liga side on my doorstep is too good of an opportunity to not get along and support them. Just hope they don’t use north harbour as their stadium.
Given it's gonna be a brand spanking new club without the history of a traditional kit and logo I'd like to think that they would avoid the traditional stripes or hoops, be adventurous maybe? or or even
Xero is a Wellington based company and used to be based in the same building as HRL Morrison (Rob's company), hope they'd sponsor the nix before sponsoring Auckland.

Infratil (owned by HRL Morrison) owns 49.9% of One NZ but the Auckland based Spark sponsors the Nix.
I agree that I’d like the Nix to get more sponsorship and investment though.
