Auckland FC - Once the Knights, Always the Knights

Ahhhh the boy from Forest, Mississippi. Good pick up by AFC.
Their Aussies are proper experienced ALM players, not NPL journeymen.
Guess you can't remember when Galloway played Left Back for the Nix? Galloway can play both sides. City played him mainly on the Right cuz Scott Jamieson was locked in at LB.

Look out for the mutual parting of ways. Have heard this from 3 very solid sources this time around.
Low balled J-Mac, getting mutual with Galloway, I wonder if they are feeling the financial pinch?

They're not short of coin, but perhaps a few chickens have come home to roost from CFG about continuing to pump money into their Australian outfit?
Also, has anyone worked out the Adana, Türkiye link? I'm presuming it has nothing to do with a kebab!

Champness played for Adanaspor last season before injuring himself.

Hall was born in Melbourne, and then adopted by white Australian parents. Maybe he just doesn't feel that Fijian. I read somewhere that for now he just wants to concentrate on his club football, but maybe one day will declare for Fiji.
He wants to try Europe at some point, but at age 25 that could be a bit late now. It's a 2 year deal with AFC.
Arnie has picked alot different players for the Socceroos in his tenure. Spread the net wide. So Hall will still think he's got a chance if he dominates in the ALM.
Jaushy Sotiro has never bothered to play for New Caledonia (both parents from NC, and he has a French passport). To be brutally honest playing for OFC teams, you are going to be playing a lower standard than your club football, with almost zero chance of going to a World Cup.
Re fullbacks, wouldn't surprise if 35 yr old & 6 foot Sakai is being looked at as a CB, or defensive utility.

Not much fanfare surrounding these announcements is there? You'd think they'd try and build it up more. Maybe that's just me though.
At CB they have signed Hall. Anyone else who looks like a potential starter CB?
And Champness bailed on Brisbane for a music career, had a club that stopped paying its players and then hardly played in the second tier iirc. Seems like a bit either way? In any case, a character and someone who might appreciate Auckland life. Probably could manage music and football if he wanted!

Tommy Smith is obviously the other potential CB starter. And no doubt they'll sign a few scholarship CBs.
Champness or JOWIC is obviously a different sort of cat, with the whole music thing going on as well. But he's also a proven performer at ALM level. Sounds like he's still got some family in Auckland. Life there should be a bit more stable that Turkey. As long as he's always on time for trainings etc, no reason why Corica and co can't let him continue his muso stuff on the side.
AFC hoovering up all Unattached FC Kiwis. And yeah also surprised by how low key the club are doing these reveals.

Hall is one of five new signings Auckland plan to announce before the team assembles for pre-season training at North Harbour Stadium on Thursday.

That user doesn't live in Akl, probably second hand info
He's from Auckland, it's the off season in Europe. If he's going to visit family it's now. Maybe he's leaving all the new club hunting with his agent now.
If he was spotted arriving at out at Albany Stadium, then yes I'd be getting excited if I was a AFC fan. Their pre season training started out there today.
One of their packages is sold out. No idea how big of an area it is at Mt Smart.
The swanky bourgeois package proving less popular

Louis Fenton spotted in a gym in Wellington a few days ago.

So crazy that he played over 150 games for us and is only 31.
You feel for him and Matt Ridenton (only 28!) who had the opposite career path to Rufs. Managed to get into the top team before, perhaps the high level of support for young players which there now is, was in place. You gotta wonder at the might’ve beens!
On the other hand perhaps the financial rewards were better, if he even got a sniff of Terry money compared to the recent news about the APL disbursement…

Both Hall and Sotiro have a slim chance for WCs going forward as NZ will get the automatic slot with the rest going for that .5 one. NC, Tahiti and Fiji can all call on some decent overseas players. Surely that has to be a bit of a motivation.
Would Fiji have made the final against us if Hall had played for instance?

I think Matt was out of his depth but not Louis. I wonder how much his injuries played a part in the decision?

Matt definitely was out of his depth. Fenton was totally about the injuries and being able to move in his 30's - three shoulder dislocations, amongst several others.
