Under the older and more sensible interpretation of the handball law that would never have been a penalty. Unfortunately referees have been instruted that now it is. Just wrong imo. IFAB are trying to turn the handball law from a subjective opinion to an objective one. David Elleray was a schoolmaster at Harrow - and it shows. They are making some awful decisions on instructions to referees.
I'm hoping for Adelaide win, I think we're more likely to catch Brisbane. Brisbane's recent results better than Adelaide, but I think Adelaide actually a better team and more likely to get a few wins in remaining matches.
Looking at future fixtures, if City beat CCM next weekend they will have won the league, then play midweek vs Brisbane a few days later. A bit worried about that already!
I actually rate the Duke goal from same match as Devlin's goal as better than Devlin's. Facing away from goal, chest, turn & volley a tougher level of difficulty. Not to take away anything from the Devlin beauty goal though.
This one by Keogh better than both though. Best one this season I can remember anyway.
Yeah it is best for Phoenix Top 6 hopes if Perth win... even if we may go down in the table (Perth would equal us, but ahead due to games played), it keeps us closer to the 6 though.
WSW also has a better goal difference than us (Perth is lower), so it's nice if a few goals get shaved off that incase we end up equal with them.
If Glory hold on to beat WSW (currently 3-1). Then from Friday-Sunday, Roar lose at Newcastle, Nix beat Western United, Sydney beat WSW & lastly Macarthur win in Perth.
All that happens then Nix will be equal on 31 pts with Roar & WSW. GD goes their way, and 6th they will be by this Sunday.
Long shot for all that to happen, maybe. But don't think NIx need to win all 4 of their remaining games to make the top six. Probably 3 wins plus the top 4-5 teams to help by beating all the other teams gunning for that 6th spot, plus some upsets like Jets beating Roar.
Newcastle's last win was in February vs Victory (does that even count), so I have no faith in them winning anything, though that would be great and dreams are free!
If we win all four, we should make it (not definitely). If we drop any more points we end up relying on a few results that probably won't happen.
After Jets, the Roar have Melb City, WSW, Glory & SFC. They are not going to win all those, so they are going to be catchable.
Unknown now is how having A League Socceroos away for 3-4 weeks will change things. Melb City sans Maclaren & Nabbout (injured) looks a lot less impressive on paper.

Probably Brisbane beat Jets to get to 34 points, then from those remaining four they probably won't win them all, but probably get at least 4 points. So probably to overtake them we need to get to 40 points by winning all 4.
Agree with Melbourne City, when league maybe already won and down players it will suck for us if they start having bad results.
Keogh lobs the keeper from far out. That one might overtake Devlin for goal of the season.

The keeping ruins the Keogh goal for me, Margush has had a shocker. He gets back in time but has lost track of where the ball is.
Don't care about the first but we need an Adelaide win in the second.
A bit like rearranging deck chairs I know but I feel like a draw would be better. Assuming we almost certainly need to win all our games a draw here and a loss to us would leave Perth below us. Of course Perth might not win their games against Mac and Roar.
As for the Reds a draw and a win over MV would put them on 39. They would then need at least a point from their last two by no means easy games, and even then it would depend on goal diff.
I guess the easiest way to think about this is that the best combination of results between teams above us playing each other are draws, as statistically this result keeps more of those teams within our range.

Adelaide are 7 points ahead and host Victory next, so can't see us chasing them down. So them winning all the rest of their games helps us by taking points off Perth/WSW

Maybe, but Perth and WSW aren't in the six, and if we beat them anyway they are not a concern. It's the ones above them we need to catch.
Adelaide seem to often not be very good at holding onto a lead. Only just did on the weekend more by good luck than good management. Seem a dynamic and good attacking team at times, but then flaky.
