what bev peterson has done for this team this season should not be under estimated , and that is what makes gunnie so good .

Bev peterson had only worked with a couple of the older girls in sprints? imo full credit too Gunnie/team/pdl for working hard individually. Think this club has produced a large number of talented players under Gunnie's wing over the years, interesting what next season will be like. Coastal seems to have it sorted

No

I heard she was asked (as she does every time Tech play Coastal) and said no again as she hasn't played for the team all year. She was at the game.

Wouldn't have been a good look, mind you they did sign Meikayla Moore, flew her down for half a game, and never played again!

. cheers for correcting (was wrongly informed that Bev was involved with the whole squad ) . any team could do a lot worse than getting canterburys most successful speedster involved in their set up ......can never praise Gunnie/ coastal women too much as their results speak for themselves . Have they ever won Canterbury sports team of the year ?

I've heard there's quite a few people living up there, you could perhaps start your own team... :-)

Have been advised that there is funding available to bring players down from Nelson to play, so no players have to pay. Several spots still to be named and understand likely to include player(s) that turned out for Tasman in the WPL.

Have a look at the next waves of WPL players - and the clubs they're from; just 3 from Coastal/Cashmere out of a total of 42!

Great to see these other clubs investing in womans football, the results would appear to be clear! Waimak to win the WPL within the next 5 years, unless the same old poaching and pride carrot comes out :)

Great to see some clubs making a serious investment in woman's football and I hope that they get rewarded in the future, especially to stop the poaching that has made some clubs seem more successful than they deserve to be. Surely Halswell should be rewarded with a WPL team. They have won PDL which is more than other clubs have done to get promoted. They have the depth and they develop juniors. They have more right to be there than Varsity on that basis.

I've commented on this thread before about Parklands promotion and Shane - due to poor process/criteria from Mainland. Then there was the McMann-led debacle that destroyed Selwyn at a critical time.

The key, as always, is how a club treats its premier women's team - especially in relation to the men; and what opportunities a club can offer. The challenge for Waimak will be to see if they can build from here as the players begin to reach maturity, and all that that brings re work, education etc

Does the league have the ability to support additional teams coming in? - seems to be a lot of young players in many teams and will there be a lot lost to other areas for University etc?

Almost seems the case. Sounds like the bulk of Tasman's squad from last season unavaliable for various reasons - no longer in the region, retired etc.

Tasman added to the WPL in the last two sesons, finishing third twice with their record being - played 33, won 18, drawn 3 lost 12.

Time we stopped pretending NZ has the quality & quantity of girls/women to be calling anything a Premiere League.

Train and play the best & serious ones in with the boys/youth/men. That's what they as players deserve and need for their development.

Happens overseas where the numbers are much more favourable than in NZ. The rest is participation / social.

Regional version of Ferns Player Development Programme. Surely time for a a national winter club league. Find the money.

And the rest? There still needs to be a female only top league - for all sorts of reasons.

Yeah agreed Global. Speaking to Turnbull it seems there are some good works in motion...

I think their world cup money should go towards this... Not sure how much they get for their world cup campaigns though.
