Sounds like it is going to be a very competitive league next season. Few top quality coaches and players coming to try their hand at the CCL. All will be being paid to coach though ??

Sounds like this is confirmed, John Brown has turned down a MPL gig at FC2011 to take on Western in the CCL.
It will make it an interesting season in CCL.

The initials SK sound like they may be being used in the CCL too next season

Hopefully better value for them than JC
When you consider the possible $ being thrown around CCL - Slava United; coaches who presumably aren't doing it only for the love and glory, any players that might be drawn to play there for some pocket money; in conjunction with the quality of the 6 team league, and what winning it means; ....I don't see how it adds up.

Well there's a turn up

Don't lose too much sleep over it mate, no biggie. More clubs spending money on good coaches ( :-) ) and better players coming through means greater things for football in our area.
Well that's the theory anyways.
Smart move by Western to sign a 'name' manager for next season.
At this level and the MPL clubs need the manager to be able to attract / maintain player's to the club and John will do this.
Not saying Western will bounce straight back up they ceretainly now in a better position.

No real secret that Stu will be at The Rams in 2018.
Now confirmed re: Western.

I'll have to start reading this 'Press' you speak of. It may have some gold in it ??

We can only hope there's another couple of teams ready to step up... Playing each other 4 times gets a bit boring, especially if you then meet one of the teams in a cup too!
On a side note:
Do Selwyn reserves replace the Halswell reserve team next season for the top and 2nd tier? Just trying to get my head around it all with no Nelson reserves.
I know Halswell were effectively Nelson this year, with Nomads having a team in both leagues. Is it that Selwyn now go up as of right and Western become the Nelson slot?
If so hopefully Nomads are allowed to keep the 2 teams (if they have the numbers) again so that there aren't any bye weeks

I would imagine for the Reserves it'll be made up with
Bays, FC20, Cash Tec, Uni, Nomads, Coastal, Selwyn and Western would keep their spot with Selwyn taking Halswells one.
Congrats.
Ah, the comments thread. Almost as good as Yellow Fever.
Almost. Colin Grigson is a Twit who used to work in a bank.
Plenty of goings on already for some clubs in the CCL:
- ChCh United about to conduct 'open trials' with training for next season getting away shortly
- Several players who played in the MPL this season, already 'signed' for at least two different CCL clubs for 2018
- Two former All Whites seen with a CCL coach in recent days
I heard a few 'boys' might be heading to a CCL club too

This could easily be the whole Western team as they all 'played' MPL this season :)

Neither of the clubs involved played in the MPL in 2017
Sounds like "BS" to me
I heard Peers to Halswell apparently closer to home and brother in law is coach. No doubt a few tech players will be heading to Western I would assume
Good time to have left the league. So 3 teams throw $$$ at the league to win it, at least 2 are going to be disappointed, do they keep throwing $$$ at it?
not that old chest but again,
Fun and enjoyment out does $$$ every time

Didn't say which 3 teams.....
You cannot believe that seriously Dan Ede?? Despite what anyone says if the rumours are correct mpl players defecting from Tech will be getting paid in some way shape or form, your very naive if you think otherwise! But i'm sure as with every other club paying players, this will be denied
Copied from Halswell United AFC facebook page (was posted earlier this evening):
A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS
Halswell United are pleased to announce the signing of Adam Highfield.
The talented goalkeeper joins the club from the 2017 MPL Championship winning side at Ferrymead Bays .
Adam has signed an initial deal until the summer of 2020 and the club have the option to extend this by a further year.
Highfield will add his impressive playing experience and an undoubted safe pair of hands to our Premier Men's side, bolstering our push for promotion back to the Mainland Premier League.
In addition to this Adam will also be a welcome addition to our Football Development team under Alex Stiker as our new our Senior Goalkeeping Coach.
I am sure everyone will make Adam, his wife Valentina and their two children Zoe and Niko , welcome at the club this season.

Who signs actual contracts in the CCL? (Unless you’re getting paid ?)
Again. Many people get paid. It's 2018 haha

I would assume that you would sign a contract if your taking up a coaching role, regardless if it was ccl or mpl

That bit I would agree with (if it's a paid coaching role) but the stipulation is that he's signed a playing deal.
We all know that clubs pay players nowadays through different avenues so why not make it ok in MPL and CCL?
Waimak beat Uni 2-0 rather easily.
Hope those on the bbq got their $10 reduction in their kids subs for the coming season
Parklands was 8-0; Cash Tech Gold beat Western (not sure which of the 2 Western teams) 7-0
