The Lower Hutt CL team looked like business as usual (after talk of their demise/scaling back)
Central League
So the academy is still going then and The Phoenix are still financially supporting Lower Hutt?

Who'd they have playing?
I have their 1st XI looking something like...
Paulsen
Drake, Naicker, Mogg, Bark
Check, Hamilton
Old, Toomey
Van Hattum, Bidois

That's based on who played for their reserves on Saturday and on who I've heard has headed home or elsewhere. Couple of those ^ guys are meant to be US-bound in August too.
Don't think it's a shock the staff and many of the players are at Lower Hutt for Central League, but there's no indication the Wellington Phoenix Football Academy is coming out of hiatus any time soon. Perhaps if they get the Government funding they're after?

Is that for this week?
olympic have a pretty kick ass squad on paper. Especially in midfield where Tor has joined.
Mar very strong on paper too.
Haven’t seen West’s but you’d be pretty sure you could lock them in the top three with the other two.
I think Oly play Karori at home on Sat.

Saw them play. I think they have the likes of Batchelor, Moreira, Schrijvers, Whyte, Wood. Mason Smith i think
Bubbles v Mar games should be pretty epic this season (even more so than usual).
So what games are happeneing this wekeend?

As long as there's souvlaki too.
How's the Wharf looking this season?

not quite Hajduk v Dinamo :)
yeah squad seems good. haven't scored in our two preseason games on the weekend though
Yeah, JourneyFan is correct on the clubrooms as NW committed to 80% of sale proceeds (so if valuation correct then that's $170k cash and the remaining $680k donated to new build on Alex Moore) from the half share of existing clubroom with Softball. Ongoing legal action/$cost between the two parties on that certainly doesn't help (except for the lawyers of course). Also Companies Office filing interesting as it shows that NW were removed back in March 2020 but relisted after the late financials were returned. NW operating losses reported show a total $126k lost in four years ($105k loss in these past two). Building revaluation upwards has masked the underlying activities and losses, such as fundraising costs of $40k matched by fundraising revenue of just $3.7k!!, and the Members equity is now negative, -$8k (was +118k four years ago). The $30k loan is listed in current liabilities so that should mean repay within 12 months but might be able to rollover as the Working Capital as noted in early post is negative $80k. Wage subsidy is just a stopgap for cashflow situation to meet contract obligations. All together, not good. Despite being one of the largest Wellington clubs the people I spoke to say there is very little interest in the admin and running of the club as the President and Chairman have sat through the four years with their own people at the table there so seems to be just same old again, also have had no Treasurer for past two years and paying extra in outsourcing accounts and their admin along with these large coaching bills and affected income now for coaching and grants. The now CF chair was recently part of this mix too. Clubroom deal, yes is a priority as they will also be pressure from Alex Moore new build for the committed funding, and agree with earlier posts that NW operations need a review and revise particular with Covid issues for other organisations showing there is no immunity from financial collapse. Got to pay those bills!
Any thoughts on CL games today. Watched most of the Olympic/NCR game. NCR well worth the win.

How was the stop out v rapa game?
West’s playing Sunday’s now or a one off?
Wests home games have been on Sundays for about 3 years.

Ok. That’s probably why I have seen some of them actually :)
Watched a bit of both SO vs Rapa and Hutt vs Karori.
Rapa didn’t actually look too terrible. Imports are solid. They have a very skilful young lad up top. Scored a peach of a goal for his second. Stop Out looked decent, Nati and Gulley stand outs on the park and a level above others.
Hutt could do better if they stopped trying to walk the ball into the goal. You get the impression that they don’t care if they lose as long as the football they play looks good. Young Asian lad ( Joe? ) and Slim shady midfielder ( Louis? ) both very skilful players caused lots of problems. Big lad up top for Karori looked most likely to score for them, surprised they took him off.
Hutt could also do better if they stopped pissing and moaning at every single decision the ref made, including their support staff. Was embarrassing to watch.
did Wests look like the champions everyone is picking? close game 2-1 v NW
NW got the penalty they deserved but otherwise didn't trouble Wests. NCR v Wests next weekend will be interesting.
NW pressed very hard and tired. Reckon title will depend on how many Wests lads do go to uni/Europe and in what timeframe.
saw wharf play stop out on a wet track. Wharf played the better footy but stop out came home strong with chances off a few corners. Draw a fair result.
Petone beating NW a surprise. Wage subsidy dried up?
Olympic showing already you can't buy the league?
Wairarapa's first MCL win in 701 days
Wairarapa's first MCL win in 701 days
It's a pretty incredible result when you consider the corresponding game last season ended 10-0 to Olympic and the Wairarapa team is largely the same team - Just 3 players starting that didn't play for them last season!
Olympic in the relegation zone!
Too much souvlaki (although some of us would argue there is no such thing).

Heard the pitch was ankle deep water in most of it. Surely this isn't conducive to actually playing football, more a bit of kick and chase and hope for the best.

yeah for sure. But Karori did knock it round fairly well to feet compared to SO who turned the ball over more

the MCL in redundent in this. Their last Chatham Cup win was before their last MCL win.

Both teams play on the same pitch, you just have to adapt.
Watched quite a bit of the NCR vs Wests game. Think Wests got away with a bit of a robbery there, Napier deserved at least a point, looked very dangerous on the counter and shut out Wests well for the most part.
Stand out players for me were Napier’s blonde centre mid, centre back and the guy they had up top out wide who was outrageously quick. Stamenic very good for Wests.

The point wasn't that if was unfair or anything like that. It is that both teams cannot play proper football in ankle deep water when it is all about kick and chase and see what happens.. At the end of the day the game is called football and at this level you would hope that the grounds are suitable for playing a decent game.
the pitch wasn't great but looked ok
check it out in the goals from the week (from Cap Footy's Facebook)
I'm not totally sure which game you're referring to, JourneyFan, but the Napier-Wests pitch was a bit dodgy but not unplayable. The ball stopped rolling almost every time it went into the centre circle and there was a lot of falling over. At least one player was injured in a colision caused by another player slipping. Having said that, we had a couple of games last year in much worse conditions, both pitch and weather-wise.
The clips from the Karori-Stop Out game look pretty borderline in terms of player safety though, that is a lot of standing water.
Olympic 7/8? Up vs Wharf... not dead yet
