How many goals did Cody Taylor score ? sure knows how to find the back of the net.
well done Birko on the 2 years, best team at the tourney, and were worth their victory on the day. Being a one eyed Onehunga supporter, and realising this might sound surly, I do question why a squad with such depth (have recently picked up players from Oratia and Forest Hill amongst others) saw the need to include 2 guest players.
Waibop imports McIsaac and Mechell were superb during the tournament and particularly in the final, scoring the goals (the second one from Mechell, from an McIsaac cross, was an absolute cracker). Some might call that smart management.
more than 1/2 of the Onehunga were 2000 born, so will be back next year; 3rd time lucky!
Another great tournament, well done ACFC
For those wanting a visual fix on the two young Melville lads, here is a pic of Jake Mechell, left, and Lachie McIsaac taken last week modelling the new club strip.... :-)
Lachie is the son of former Waikato United striker and Cambridge AFC legend Tony.
Jake and Lachie were outstanding - great to see them get a chance to play in this top tournament. They were also great role models for all the younger boys in the squad - ten U16 players including the five who finished the final on the pitch.
Birko now back-to-back U17 and U19 champs - that's some record for Hobbo.

Can do when onside, yes :)
They were also instrumental in the extra time win over Western Springs in the semi, with the one lad creating the run and cross.
Springs also had decided to have younger players that can develop, with a number of 2001 boys on the park in the semi. Have to say I prefer their approach than bringing in players in a club with such depth

Wait, someone from sports complaining about poaching players? Now I have seen everything
Don't kid yourself that Springs have some sort of moral high ground. By my count of the team that started the semi and played most of the minutes in the tournament only 3 played throughout the 2015 season in Springs teams, that's 8 ring-in from St Kent's and elsewhere. 2 x 2001 born and 1 maybe 2? x 2000 born players.
I think you will find the Onehunga starting team in the semi and final had 7x 2000 born and 1 x 2001 born players
The real unsung team of this tournament is Ellerslie who seem to get little recognition. They again went deep into the championship end of the tournament with a largely unknown team, Ryan Shiffman? seems to be doing some really good things with the youth set-up there.
So what if Birkenhead had two guest players .They didn't have any year before !
Everyone does it more or less..
Onehunga started final well then they basically gave in....

5 St Kents boys in the tournament this weekend. One who played 2015 pre season mens and some reserve games, 1 who arrived this year from the lower North Island and will play 2016 at Springs, 2 brothers who came from Onehunga and will play 2016 at Springs, and 1 other who came from Onehunga and will play 2016 at Springs.
Sports.Springs .Birkenhead the big 3 here
1st Birko
2nd Sports
3rd Springs
called it to a T Big T!
Getting a bit embarrassing winning all these youth tournaments now.
Even more so when you cant win anything at Senior Level....
best age group tourney in the country IMHO. I see there's a healthy Cantab representation this year (5 clubs) Mainland sides have given a good account of themselves last few years, and are always tough to beat. I remember Hallswell winning the U15 NZ Club tourney up here a few years ago. Anyone in a position to provide a bit of an assessment on this years U17 squads? (Cashmere, Ferrymead, Hallswell, Coastal, FC2011) or point to where I could have a look at the grades/ results these sides played last season? thanks

Coastal play Waimak Div1 side this afternoon.
They played the Halswell side who have the excellent Eddie Wilkinson midweek, Coastal didn't play their strongest side and won fairly comfortable.
CTFC and FC2011 are on paper stronger but not sure if they retained all their players with Nomads, Chch Utd and Western being active in this age group looking at strength img their Prem sides/D1 sides.
Bays will struggle but top job by them to enter ACFC.
Coastal's pool is
Western Springs, Eastern Suburbs, ECB, Lower Hutt and Papakura.
Not convinced they'll get out of that group.
CTFC have 3 Kings, Tauranga, Ferrymead, Central, Glenfield Rovers
I would expect them to qualify if they can bring their best side
Pools and draw released over the weekend some tough games in those draws. Birko would be doing well to repeat again.
FC2011 5 Coastal 5 on Saturday morning
Some talk neither side used their "First XI"
Tech U17 side into the final of the Waimak Pre season tournament on Saturday. Second year running. All the best Lads

No injuries! Bigger fish to fry 17-19 March!
Word on the street is that NZ U17 players not allowed to participate for their clubs at the tournament. Anyone able to shed some light on this?
can image that is going to upset 2 or 3 clubs
That along with late transfer can team dynamics in a few cases
Given recent correspondence from NZF to members of the NZ U17 Squad and the potential impact that this may have on some teams registered to play at the Tournament, the desire to support both players and teams looking to participate in the Tournament, as well as taking into account what is believed to be in the best interests of the Tournament – the Tournament Committee has decided to make the following changes: went on to say team changes will be allowed and reminded teams about transfers etc.Team managers have the detail
it's all getting quite bizarre
Absolute crap that Hay has put so much pressure on the 17's players to pull out of such a great Club tournament so long before WC ,he didn't make them pull out of the Sacred Heart School preseason game this week, Double standards. It will be interesting to see his stance in September 1 month out from the WC when Sacred Heart and St Kents are in Secondary schools tournament if he puts same pressure on NZ17's players
and danny will crap on about school football being the best football league around when there is only 3-4 really competitive teams.
saw this on the SKY guide - sounds awesome!
Just wish we were there.
if anyone can put up a link to tournament website that be well appreciated
FC2011 2 wins
Ctfc 1 win
Coastal 1 loss 1 win
Coastal Girls 1 draw

Cashtech will play Birkenhead United in Semi Final tommorrow. Having a great tourny having scored 17 and conceded 1 in 6 games. Bring it on. All of the Christchurch teams have done very well. FC unfortunately went down 3-1 in their quaternary final vs Western Springs.
Why are Lower Hutt the only Wellington club that enters this competition?
how narrow is this pitch ?!
Birko again.
