Sad news -thanks for the many many laughs
My mother attributes going into labour with my sister to having laughed herself silly to the Young Ones episode 'Bomb'. My sister and I spent a lot of time in our high school years watching the Young Ones, Bottom, Filthy, Rich, and Catflap, the New Statesman, etc.
However, I think Lord Flashheart was his finest acting work:
"Tell them Flash run out of juice, and before all the girls start killing themselves, I'm talking about petrol. Woof! Woof!"
Weird thing I can still quote word for word most of the episodes.
I loved Rik and Ade together but probably the best Young Ones clip for me is with Rick and Neil and "Crop rotation"
Still has me in tears.

In that still Den Dennis (Nigel Planer) is clearly playing the guitar, as he does throughout.

Maybe but he had pretty good comic timing and as Warren he displayed a real warmth in Porridge. Casey too, poor ol' Scooby :(

Rick: I feel sorry for you, you zeros! You nobodies! What's going to live on after you die? I'll tell you - nothing! That's what! [struggling to hang himself] Oh, this is pathetic![he gives up trying to hang himself, then sees a jar of pills and attempts to overdose]
Neil: [upon seeing Rick eating the pills] Vyv, Vyv – er, can you, like, actually kill yourself with laxative pills?
Vyvyan: I don't know Neil, but I'm going to stay and find out!
Neil: I think I'm going up to my room for a bit![Rick swallows pills in front of Neil as he leaves]
Rick: This house will become a shrine, and punks and skins and rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown-ups will say, "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say, "Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead!"[Vyvyan crouches down to watch Rick's rear as he talks]
Rick: And then one particularly sensitive and articulate teenager will say, "Other kids, do you understand nothing? How can Rick be dead when we still have his poems?" And then another kid will say... [he then farts loudly and realises what he's been taking]

Gone too soon. His friends say his health never fully recovered after suffering brain injuries when falling off his farm bike 16 years ago. May be connected to his sudden death. I was surprised at the time he made such a good recovery, his injuries were so bad. Working to the end but mainly small parts in recent years. He had to quit the stage show of "The New Statesman" in 2007 due to bad health.
UK Telegraph now saying he suffered a heart attack following completion of his daily run. Apparently he was well overweight - 'about eighteen stone' according to someone who'd recently seen him.

Nobody has said it yet but we are all a bit RIP'd out by the amount of cool folk who have died recently still he has to go in here.
Eli Wallach - great actor, not just for trying to keeel Blondie in the Good, the Bad, but many others.
Particularly that one where he is trapped in that base in Antarctica with a bunch of crazed monkeys and I think Robert Culp. A thanks to who ever googles it or knows it. (can't be bothered).
Quite gave me the willies when I was little when I saw it for the first time. Carpenter must have watched it obviously influenced The Thing
"Tuco" as I will always remember him was a very good actor. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is on my own personal top 5 favourite films list (Along with Once Upon a Time in the West and Blade Runner, Field of Dreams..). A very talented actor that could bring humour to a role but also turn into a deadly killer any second. Also noted for the Magnificent Seven and the Godfather part 3.
Who can forget that last scene in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly... "Hey Blondie, you know what you are? A dirty....."

Just had a phone call from a friend to alert me to the Rik Mayall tribute tonight 7.30 pm Prime TV
They are showing one of his last TV appearances which screened April last year in Britain -
A two hour "Jonathan Creek Special" with Rik Mayall in a leading role playing Detective Inspector Gideon Pryke, a wheelchair bound character first created for Mayall after his 1998 accident when he wasn't very mobile.
