I guess nothing is needed from the club when we can have people on here doing some solid speculation on what has happened/will happen.
I wonder how solid football loving journos like Voerman will handle being knocked back, especially when it is their livelihood?
Pretty sure the Phoenix do it routinely, unfortunately they have a reason to be suspicious of NZ media.
What reason would that be?
Especially around the time of the license problems the press was particularly bad, even if the stories weren't harsh the headlines were. If the Phoenix won it would be lucky or an upset, even if it was deserved. People I worked with thought that the Nix had never won a game and were perennial wooden spooners just based on the headlines on the back page of the dom post in the smoko room. There's a reason people here used to call it the Doom post.
News, radio, etc. were all the same though. Admittedly with consistent performances, or perhaps a change in the editorial staff, the narrative in the press has improved.
Wasn't the main issue that Rob Morrison wouldn't talk to any press?
also given our record in the last 7 seasons has seen us finish 6th, 9th, 7th, 9th, 4th, 9th, 10th I'm pretty sure its not the press creating an image of the nix being perennial wooden spooners!

How many wooden spoons in that list? It wasn't just perenial wooden spooners, people thought of the team as one that would go seasons without winning games.

Just the one, but oh hang on 9th place 3 times is Sooooo much better...
over the last 7 seasons before this one we only had one season where we managed more than 10 wins in a season - we had an average of 8 wins a season in a 27 game season! So its not really any surprise that people who don't really watch the team get the impression that they are pernial wooden spooners, even if they aren't and that has nothing to do with the press

Ahh selective statistics.
We've been in contention, though not table toppers 3/5 and including this year four out of six. Only Darje really had a dire record. You include the end of Rickis tenure, but not his success. Or our current seasons success.
This also doesn't include amazing local stories like Krishna, Singh and Libby (and Marco before them) or medal winners like Burnsy.
Full results:
8.6,4,6,4.10,9,4, 9,7,9,6, 3*
Again not the full story- we've made the finals 6 times, with only one good finals campaign.
Not that I watch much 6pm news, but usually read the football writers. I think the point is we shouldn't slag off the local club, but the club has to help itself. I usually think we can win every game, but then I'm crazy optimistic.

I took the last 7 years as thats when Welnix have been in charge - somehow I thought that was more relative as it's their press relations (or lack off) that we were discussing.
Not denying the successes of players etc, but 3 9th place finishes in 5 years usually indicates you are just a little bit sharkte - at least we have started turning it around the last couple of years
My original point was its not headlines in the Dom that make the casual "fans" think we were cr*p

Another run in the finals would have helped too. A winning home final or even two imprints strongly.
Eh. How many of us wouldn't have been too unhappy to have seen a couple more games of this season?
Very naive if you think negative headlines dont have an influence on casuals. Not really sure how there can be people denying there was a time there when there was a lot of negative stuff being put out about the Phoenix and a lot of it not football related.
Statistics can be made to justify anything for those who no how to. Dosnt matter what you make the statistics look like they dont have those critical behind the scenes things that can have a significant influence on results. There can be no denying that some of the things that have been circling around the Phoenix have had some affect.

Coronavirus: Warriors claim $458,000 as sports bodies get millions under wage subsidy scheme https://t.co/qDtbr96rbu

For Rob Morrison, would not his day job be eating up his time at the moment?
The club is a hobby (memorial to his brother) IMHO
This is the kind of thing it would be good to be able to try to find out in an interview.

‘Rob, in two years time when there is a global pandemic, do you think your role at Infratil will keep you from telling someone at the club to respond to the media?’

Other sports bodies claiming the wage subsidy include New Zealand Golf ($150,000), Kart sport New Zealand ($29,000), Central and Mainland Soccer ($130,000 and $89,000) and Paralympics New Zealand ($70,000).
I think it's a bit silly of anyone to expect a media comment from Dome or anyone at the club. Noone else in the a-league is - well it's not being reported by NZ media if they are. I'd expect that all the players and staff are in isolation as they should be for at least another 2 weeks.
Besides, we all know the negative spin the NZ media put on any football story is a real thing - it's not just us being paranoid. Exclude the Terry years where there was a definite, and justifiable, negative slant against him. Since welnix have been in control the media have taken every chance to connect Gareth's anti cat stance and other political interests to the football side along with the consistent negative spin on our crowds and the metrics that the FFA had put in place.
If I was Dome and the club I'd be hunkering down until this Covid-19 thing was over, then when their is some decisions to be made make them and then tell the fans.

Reads in the article like is for staff and players. Doubt (though could be wrong) that Warriors have as many as 90 staff, excluding the professional player group.
The Warriors have received $485,524.80 for 90 staff, according the the Work and Income Covid-19 wage subsidy website.
Warriors chief executive Cameron George said compared to other league clubs, the Warriors' staff count is low.
He said there are three teams under the Warriors banner - the Warriors NRL team, Under 18s and Canterbury Cup, all of which have support staff.
Plus there is the commercial team that oversees corporates, sponsorship and membership.
"We'll assist the players, the staff, everyone, with the subsidy grants we've applied for like every other business in the country, " he said.
If Warriors qualify, see no reason why Phoenix wouldn't also get a grant. Though the Nix would have more non NZers in their playing group - a few of whom will probably get cut loose at end of May anyhow.
Of relevance to the Nix and the possibility of A League restarting.
Not great for guys with families, but I guess faced with being paid or not.................
It is an interesting scenario, thanks coochie. I would not expect FOX to agree to having both NRL and HAL play at the same time though. It is in their interest to have one brought forward and the other one delayed, extending the time they have the eyes of the public glued to their screens. It would also ensure there is no overlap of games at the shared venues.
Scary thing is if Tim Payne (an otherwise seemingly well behaved young man) couldn't go 2 weeks, without doing something foolish.
What chance is there that a couple hundred rugby league players, can act like saints for 3-4 months in a bubble!
See also talk now about NZ Super Rugby sides moving to Australia (with South African sides) to finish their season. Plus even early rumours that NZ Breakers could relocate to Tasmania for NBL season 2020/21.

it would be like Geordie Shore on steroids!
We've had enough of not having @pineyzb in ours lives so we thought we'd ask him to host our new Series - 'Nix Stars In Lockdown!' - and being the legend he is, he said YES! ?

Sounds like fun. Will this be on the Nix website?
The person was tested following their return to New Zealand as a precaution after showing minor symptoms. Following strict Ministry of Health advice, they immediately quarantined themselves from the public and their bubble.
The staff member has praised both the club and the media for respecting his privacy and that of that of his family during a difficult time. They are now focussing on preparing for a potential finish of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season and beyond.
No other staff member on the trip has tested positive for Covid-19.
That is good news!
And a real good result from their sojourn to OZ during a pandemic, I was expecting more to get sick as the caper was quite rushed.

Media take on Phoenix News
while I agree the nIx have not covered themselves in glory in communication before (find it amusing that people blame the media - lol), no news is good news at this point in time - means people are being paid
When we hear they are not, we then have issues
Do they want football back or not?!
Lots of brain dead people.
So with the NRL starting again on May the 28 what hopes is there for the A-League to restart?

We've just had our second confirmed death caused by Croronavirus.

Aus Govt has said today it will work with NRL to help make it happen.
We've just had our second confirmed death caused by Croronavirus.
So did South Australia. I just read today, the AFL were considering to "do an A-League" and having Adelaide as a hub to have everyone playing their season out here.
The NRL are so deperate to keep their TV money they want to put people at risk?
But is it high risk?
I'm no doctor, and obviously league is a contact sport with the players often up close and personal - but if they do it 100% right, should be less chance of catching Covid, than hanging out in the general popn you could agrue.
Think I read all players, staff, medicos, refs, caterers, whoever - going to live in this planned Western Sydney bubble, will be tested before they go in. They will also be surrounded day in, day out by doctors etc. Maybe they will do daily testing of all as well.
So is a chance they could pull it off. But yes if 1 player was infected, then it could be a case of quickly many.
Also can a couple hundred league players live in a Tinder, school girl free bubble for a few months? Even with their careers on the line, you'd have to have your doubts that one of them won't do something pretty dumb. That to me is the greatest risk of it all coming unstuck.
