Winston Reid (Unattached FC)
He's off to Arsenal, balls my word....
Apparently he favours the Liverpool set up and Rogers is likely to be around a bit longer. Btw west ham was my club twenty years before I came to NZ so to me Reid is just a commodity. Time to move on.....loyalty for sale.
So was it different for Rojas was it? Didn't he opt for bigger things despite the leg up given to him by YF? Did you not join the "judas" campaign at that time, threatd?
#WHUFC to sell Winston Reid in January if new deal isn't agreed by then.

We signed Rojas because we thought he provided good value for money, not because we were doing him a favour. West Ham signed Reid because they thought he was good value for money. I would say one of those turned out to be true,
I also dont think they are comparable situations. Rojas never completely fired for the nix, Reid certainly has for West Ham. West Ham will also get paid out a decent amount in Jan.
IMO I think it's great that a NZr is being chased by the big clubs. Who would've ever dreamed that this would happen. Good on Reid, he's helping put NZ on the map as far as the soccer world goes.

Second that. If it was my preference, given he wants growth, Liverpool would be my pick. Arsenal would seem to have sewn up Rudiger and West Ham eying up Dragovic; Hummel to Man U?
Picked up another yellow, out for one match.
Fucked my fantasy team. Gr.

Ridiculous yellow...dirty northern cheating bast@$d McCarthy chopped Amalfitano then in the ensuing melee Reid got booked. Could have happened to anyone.
Reluctant West Ham slap $12m price-tag on Winston Reid
West Ham have put a reported $12m price-tag on Winston Reid as they prepare to lose their New Zealand defender. That would be a fire sale bargain though with the club apparently willing to break the bank to hold him.The Sun newspaper suggested the Hammers were prepared to pay Reid a $46m long-term deal that would see the 26-year-old earn around $150,000 a week. The lack of action from Reid's management on that offer now has the Hammers looking at trying to make the best of a sad situation. Reid's contract runs out at the end of the season and he could walk away a free agent with Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton all having reported interest in his services.West Ham's alternative is to sell him in the January transfer window and try and make some money off him. That is now an option according to the Daily Mail with a report today continuing the keen interest in the future of the All Whites captain in the British media. In his regular transfer market report, the Daily Mail's football correspondent Simon Jones wrote: "The Hammers are reluctant to sell (Reid) but will do should someone offer £6million ($12m) or more in the January window."AdvertisementWest Ham have apparently already begun a search for a replacement for Reid, fearing the inevitable."West Ham are monitoring Marseille defender Nicolas N'Koulou as they prepare to lose Winston Reid," Jones reported in the Mail."While Sam Allardyce was ensuring his team were riding high in third position in the Premier League on Sunday, clubs scouts were dispatched to watch versatile Cameroon man N'Koulou."West Ham are bracing themselves for offers for Reid who has attracted interest. He is out of contract in the summer and the chances of him agreeing a new deal look slim."- Stuff
I think Winston has played this well - say nothing and just play. The rest has unfolded gathering a life of its own.

Stick with West Ham..Liverpool arent the team they used to be..
Plus I feel like if he went to either Arsenal or Liverpool he'd just be used as a scapegoat for poor defensive performances.

How much blame can be proportioned to the current players or the team's system?

As an LFC fan I'd selfishly take him in a heartbeat. He has the same leadership qualities and abilities of Agger in his prime. He commands the area and organises, something we desperately need if we are going to stick with Mingolet in goal and persevere with Lovren. Honestly though, LFC are packed with defenders and we'd need to lose a few to bring him in. We already have these players on our books:
- Johnson, Enrique, Toure, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Manquillo, Skrtel, Flanagan, Brad Smith, Lloyd Jones + Coates, Ilori, Paez and Wisdom on loan.

I mainly blame Mingolet. Zero control of the players in front of him - the keeper can see the whole field and should be pulling the strings defensively.
Winston Reid could remedy this problem to some degree for us I believe.
Reid's valuation bumped up to £20m to dissuade clubs from Jan purchase....Fat Sam thinks he's worth that to secure European football. Of course it don't mean we won't be spending on his replacement in the transfer window. Wages might be the tipping point for the two Davids (and little Karen).
Yeah but Sam is kiting.
If he is saying 20m, then the value for him is closer to 10m. If a cllub offer 15m then they will sell. 15m in the hand, or let him go for nothing which is foolish. Either way he is leaving so cash up or be foolish and don't.
I still think Winston has played this well and just gone out, done his job and said nothing. The fact that he is getting looked at by the bigger clubs suggests that he is doing his job and doing it well. If West Ham think he is worth what they say he is, then they would offer that. They haven't and the reason (and everyone knows this) is that he has not signed is because he is worth more than what WH are offering currently. 15m will get it done I think. Just a case of who blinks first.

I think Big Sam is thinking we'll either get a nice transfer fee for him, failing that THEN they'll offer him a larger contract before the end of the season.
It doesn't make much sense, why not offer him the larger contract first? I'd say they're probably awaiting on other things during the transfer window.

West Ham wont finish top 4. Just saying.
The 20k valuation is purely to hold on to him until the endof the season. A higher league finish is of more value than the amount they receivefor selling him in Jan.

Out of interest, and I admit I haven't watched any westham games this season. But have they gone back to the more "continental" style of football that the fans were clamouring for?
I remember at football united their version of tiki taka seemed to be pass it around the back for a bit and then long ball it up the field.

So who will? Chelsea, City, Man U, Arsenal??????
If it's not the Hammers name the four top teams in the comp please

Well, Nolan and Cole have hardly played together much since, and you've had Sakho and Valencia up front, and Song (was he on the Footy United tour?) anchoring and Mannying anyone hanging around your midfield. So as a potential West Ham convert I'll say you were in transition...
I really like Reid. I think he is a very good player and a natural athlete. I would however be interested in knowing who here thinks he is actually worthy of being a starting player for a Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester United? I agree he would be a fantastic piece of business if you could get him on a free and definitey a starting player for a middle league team. But top 4?

We don't want him, or perhaps I should say I don't want him. He will be a good asset for someone.

yep - just as you said there. It will be Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal (horribly they will probably in that order as well)
I would love West Ham to finish in the top 4, but it aint going to happen. We will be lucky to finish in the top 6 as Spurs, Everton and Liverpool are probably all likely to finish above us. The start of the season has been fantastic, but lets not kid ourselves that we are going to spend the rest of the season anywhere near where we currently are.
Because they are West Ham and Arsenal are Arsenal. What has happened to Southampton will happen to them. Look at Arsenal's squad and look at West Ham's squad and it is quite easy to work out who is going to finish 4th and who isn't. It's a bit like how after 3 games this season people were doing the jokes about how Man U were going to get relegated. Did anyone actually think we wouldn't find our way into the top 4 by the end of the season?
As for Reid, I can't think of any of our fans who actually want him. He isn't good enough to start and we have plenty of defensive depth. We need a top quality centre back. Winston Reid isn't that.
Getting off topic, but the Premier League's cramming of heaps of games into the Christmas/New Year period really screws the smaller clubs, because they never have enough squad depth when compared to the big boys at this time of year. I wonder if there'd be more variety in the European qualifiers if they didn't have the end of year fixture pileup. Every year one or two teams are over achieving in mid-December and every year they've dropped off the pace by mid-January - or at least that's what it seems like.

They are also likely in less competitions than the 'bigger' clubs, no?
