PEC Zwolle 1-0 RKC Waalwijk at half time.
Ryan Thomas (PEC Zwolle | Netherlands)
looks like Thomas picked up a yellow and got subbed at half time
Subbed at half time, coach not impressed with Ryan today! Zwolle drew 1-1 with the second bottom team in the league. Dropped 2 points. Poor result for them.
Did coach say that?

He was subbed because of a groin strain, if you happened to watch the game he was playing rather well. Yellow card had no impact on his substitution what so ever.

I feel like a long lost relative has died and I have inherited their fortune......right now ryan at 18 is streets ahead of marco's situation at the same age.

Just re-signed him till 2018. 4 year deal

Question for anyone who knows Ryan's history a bit. He's a fairly attak minded creative player right? So how did he go under Declan edges tiki taka style? Did Declan have much to do with Ryan? Interesting discussion going on in coaching chat threads re Declan maybe not allowing players to express creativity.
He had the creativity but Declan wanted him to do it more with passes than ball at feet. Declan is all about the ball doing the work
Zwolle play the Go Ahead Eagles, at 2:30am tomorrow morning. TAB Watch & Bet has a live stream, if people can't find better.
Played the full 90m in a 4-1 loss.
Ryan was always the jewel in Declan's crown. Declan worked with him from age 12 onwards, training daily.
In later years Thomas also lived with him.
Ryan's prime skill was his ability to beat defenders in any manner of ways - many very reminiscent of a young Declan Edge. But it is correct that Declan has always counseled him not to overdo it, and to be unpredictable, mix it up with the dribbling, passing etc.
Funnily enough I bumped into Eddie Edge at the game on Sunday. Eddie reported Zwolle were so impressed they want to know if there is more where-ever Ryan came from.... So they are now sending Harry Edge over as well.

Who else were his boys? Awad, Edge boys, thomas...
Ryan doing so well will certainly focus the attention of Dutch clubs on NZ as a source of young players.
Just been checking out PEC Zwolle's You Tube channel - it's a good one with 15 minute magazine shows posted every week which have match highlights, plus interviews etc.
Anything labelled "Aflevering" is an episode of the magazine program.
This recent one has an interview with Ryan (not speaking Dutch yet understandably) and his host parents at 10.18 mins: only in the Netherlands do first team players ride a bicycle home from the stadium (as Ryan is filmed doing here - classic!!!):

Should have sent Adam Thomas IMO.
Adam Thomas - you actually wonder what his career had been like had he not listened to Declan. I mean, whats the guy doing now?
I keep asking but nobody answers.

Harry? That's ridiculous. Sad. Just plain nepotism. Btw I hope Zwolle representatives don't get too close and personal with EDDIE!
New contract until June 2018
good on him. I cant wait to see him develop! I havent see any highlights of him, but a dutch friend said hes seen him holds his own.
Interesting...but yeah good on him
Intense photos on the team website.
found an interview after his debut game, he scored a goal, gave an assist and got man of match on debut in his teams 4-0 win.
he starts talking around 50seconds.

Next 'big thing' might be the Eastern Subs wunderkid that's getting one-on-one tuition from Billy Harris. But he's still pretty young.
Zwolle play Heereveen tomorrow(Saturday) morning 8 am NZT...if you want to watch Ryan play
May set my alarm for that one, normally its a Monday morning game.

Losing 1-0 at ht, after the Zwolle Keeper conceded a penalty with a rash tackle.

I love it when the kiwi kids do well overseas. Surely we should look at Ryan for the AWs - if he's playing first divn club football in the Dutch League, he should be good enough to play for the AWs.
2-1 loss for Zwolle, Thomas picking up a yellow in added time. Showed some nice vision with his passing and looked good on the ball in the parts I saw.
Ryan doesn't look out of place at all. He is good on the ball and had some lively moments on attack. Considering he is only 18 he has a great future. Dutch Div 1 is a good standard. I always enjoy watching Dutch football....fast and attacking with lots of action.
Zwolle are an OK side but they are lacking up front. They look good until the final third. I thought that they could have used Ryans pace down the flanks a bit more.....they tend to go up the centre quite a lot. They dominated most of that match and then got caught on the break by two through balls.
Ryan will probably end up playing 30+ matches a season. For a youngster its exactly what they need. Rufer and Ridenton at the Nix will probably get half a dozen shots off the bench if they are lucky.......they will never develop unless they get lots of match time.
