Lukoki slotted home a Ryan Thomas assist to restore a 1-1 parity on the fifteenth minute against fellow pack chasers AZ from Alkmaar.

On Tuesday, PEC Zwolle are away to another side the 'Bluefingers' do not particularly have a love affair with. The cup holders will meet Cambuur in Leeuwarden, another club 'from the province' all to eager to emulate PEC's succesful achievements.

PEC Zwolle drew blood in a pulsating quarter final cup clash against Cambuur in Leeuwarden. Ryan Thomas put the 0-2 on the scoreboard in the first half but Cambuur restored a 2-2 parity to bring the game into extra time, with Lukoki scoring the winner.

This is PEC Zwolle's amazing cup record since 2012, having reached the semi finals for the third successive time:

Roda JC vs PEC0-1

RKC va PEC 2-4

Go Ahead vs PEC 2-3

PEC vs Heracles 3-2

PEC vs PSV 0-3

PEC vs Fortuna S2-0

PEC vs Wilhelmina 4-0

Excelsior vs PEC 1-4

PEC vs JVC 5-1

PEC vs NEC 2-1

Ajax vs PEC 1-5

PEC vs Oss 3-2

PEC vs Hardenberg 6-1

VVV vs PEC 0-1

Cambuur vs PEC 2-3

That's a goal telly of 46-18 in 14matches.

Semi-final Draw made last night:

http://www.peczwolle.nl/nl/nieuwsarchief/halve-fin...

Wednesday night saw the draw in Groningen for the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup. Title Holder PEC Zwolle are matched herein against FC Twente. The match will be played on 7, 8 or 9th April. Further information on the exact date and ticket sales, follows through the website. The winner of this game will advance to the finals in the battle for the national football cup which is played this year on May 3 in the Rotterdam Kuip.

Semifinal KNVB Cup:

FC Twente - PEC Zwolle
FC Groningen - Excelsior

PEC have drawn the strongest remaining team Twente. Groningen (ninth in the Eredivisie) or Excelsior (thirteenth) would have been preferable.

3 goals and 5 assists in all competitions has him equal 5th on the assists table for the Eridivise. 2 behind aussie Tommy Oar who has 7 from 12 games the first spot has 8 atm might be 9 after the weekend. Progressing very quick amazing what regular game time can do we need more players in the Eridivise I think.

During the first half of the season PEC Zwolle were glorious in victory against top flight opposition and ugly in defeat, struggling against ‘minnows’. Now we are collecting points form moderate displays away from home which is a far cry from 2014.

Ryan Thomas set up the first goal with delicate vision in an away clash with midtable FC Utrecht. The match ended 0-2. The game was marred with controverse since FC Utrecht fielded a player who broke the jaw of a fellow team mate during a training session, impersonating Mohamed Ali.

Ryan Thomas needs to gain strength and power though. He may be quicksilver but he’s also vulnarable and as delicate as porcelain .

PEC Zwolle are home to bottom club FC Dordrecht this Wednesday. Don’t be deceived be their position…

Here’s today’s table and an appreciation monitor.

Hi PECZwolle, interesting your comments RE Ryan Thomas' size and strength. We (NZ) have another player similar to Ryan Thomas - Marco Rojas - who has struggled to make it (yet) in the German top tier with VfB Stuttgart and some wonder if that failure is due to his lack of size and strength. It has been discussed that maybe he might have been more suited to playing in Holland but your comments about Ryan make me wonder if that would be the case. Do you think the top Dutch and German leagues are similar in terms of physicality? Just interested to hear your opinion on that. Cheers

Think that any top league requires some kind of physicality, to be honest. People always point to Messi, but he's 1 in a billion and it's hardly like he is paper thin too.

In terms of physicality the Bundesliga is lightyears ahead of the Eredivisie. One of the principal reasons lightweight Ryan Thomas excels on top flight level in The Netherlands is lack of ruthlessness of opposing defenders. The Dutch school of defending dictates 'finding a footballing solution'. Losing graciously is considered more entertaining than an ugly win. It's our dna, our genes and our genetic footprint.

Cheers for your response. Most people are aware of this but I wanted to know how people from from your perspective see it. It certainly seems like Ryan made the right move to suit his style. Do you know what the Swiss league is like in comparison to the Dutch and German leagues?

As far as I am concerned the Swiss and Austrian leagues are on par with the Dutch league where the top flight teams are concerned.

Ryan Thomas is too fragile to perform on top flight level in more demanding European leagues.

Nobody knows where this is going but Ryan Thomas is part of a fairytale that is rocking and shaking the entire Dutch football establisment. It is as if PEC Zwolle has become the G-spot of the Eredivisie.

One of these days I’ll try to fill you in on off-field developments. There’s more than meets the eye with the on-field performances in sharp contrast with the club’s current financial status.

Here’s the appreciation monitor after the FC Dordrecht result and the current table, including home and away.

He has stopped growing now so he just needs to hit the gym. Cristiano Ronaldo back in the day at Man U cant have been more than 70 kilos and he is 6 foot. I know he is an absolute genetic freak but still he is a solid 80 kilos now if he busts his guts in the gym im sure he could get to 70 plus kilos with a similar BF % he is at least 1.70cm tall so height should be ok just gotta fill the kid out.

PEC Zwolle ‘were shown all corners of the pitch’ in an emphatic display of on-fire Heerenveen. The Bluefingers were given a medicine of their own taste during a Frisian gala performance. Bambi Ryan Thomas couldn’t make an impact in a humiliating 4-0 defeat..

Off the field better news. Coach Ron Jans extended his contract with one year.

Next week PEC Zwolle entertain neighbors Go Ahead Eagles in one of the fiercest derby matches of the domestic league.

The Dutch ‘Hanzesteden’ (Hanseatic Cities) are seven cities along the river ‘IJssel’.

In the 14th and 15th century, they formed a traders union that lead to enormous prosperity and wealth. You can still sense the rich history of the cities Hasselt, Kampen, Hattem, Zutphen, Doesburg, Deventer and Zwolle today.

Citizens of Zwolle are colloquially known as Blauwvingers (Bluefingers). This dates back to 1682, when the local St.Michael's church tower collapsed. The authorities were strapped for cash for restauration and saw no option but to sell the church bells to neighbouring city Kampen.

To make sure that Kampen would not make too much profit from the deal, the local authorities asked a high price for the church bells.

Kampen accepted, yet after the arrival of the bells it became clear, they were too damaged to be played. In revenge, Kampen paid the price in small change with copper coins the equivalent of 2-and-a-half cents. .

The magistrates of Zwolle distrusted Kampen and wanted to make sure they truly paid the full price. After the rigorous counting of this vast amount of money, their fingers had turned blue from the copper cents.

Usually banter and rivalry flare up on the days nearing a derby. Where Zwolle (PEC) and Deventer (Go Ahead Eagles) are concerned sentiments are not restricted and focused on 90 minutes. It’s almost a way of life. Both clubs have had an ugly history of hooliganism which has gradually vanished, barring off-the-field incidents.
