Kiwis in Aus below A-League level
Finishes 3-1 South Melbourne.
MLS? Really? That seems like a big jump up - good on him if that's true!

IR for Hooper/Sotiro? A young (age 19) promising Kiwi and seems to score buckets in QLD NPL. 9 goals in 12 starts last season.

Do teams still require players to be vaccinated?
Kids in good form, set up their second goal too in 3-2 win over Moreton Bay United.

Olympic top of the table, Jelacic, top of the golden boot standings - 6 goals from first 4 games.

Ex Roar & VUC player and Costa Rican Jean Solorzano, also a scorer for the Lions. Might be a bit of training ground banter between him & Ridenton at the moment given a certain high stakes game in June.
Soccerway says Solorzano actually got a cap for the Ticos back in 2012. 11 mins off the bench in a friendly verus Honduras. So both him and Ridenton (6 AWs appearances), capped ex (very ex for both) internationals.

His team Olympic (2nd) in a title race with Matt Ridenton's (3 goals) 1st placed Lions. Aidan Munford is keeper for Lions
Elsewhere 40 yr old Shane Smeltz has scored 4 for Gold Coast United. GC United also have a Kiwi keeper on their books Shane Viitakangas.
Ex Nixer Mizra Muratovic has scored twice for the Gold Coast Knights. Think Jai Ingham, was there but he's now with South Melbourne in Victoria.
31 yr old Dan Morgan has played 6 games for Peninsula Power, another QLD NPL team. Scoring twice. I think Rollo mentioned him as a possible Mcgarry replacement for the Nix.
I'd definitely take him talent-wise. I'm not too versed on COVID travel rules, but pretty sure Keegan's unvaccinated (his mother's certainly down the rabbit hole, vocal with some vile stuff on her Twitter). Will that affect things too much if he signs?
George Ott has linked up with Melbourne Knights after being released from Wellington Phoenix. Good level to keep himself on the A-League radar.

Good move thus far for Ott, 2 goals in his first 3 matches. Albeit for a mid-table side this season.
Not going to question if he's found his level at this stage because he's only 20. But hopefully he's able to kick on in their remaining 7 matches and make some sort of impression - scoring a few goals is always handy too.
Wonder also if Schrijvers has enough time to snare himself a possible A-League contract? All the feedback I've seen on him is that he's done everything he can over here to get in the frame. Perhaps moving to, and being right under a few clubs noses might benefit his cause.
All said and done, I hope they both do well.
Yipe get the feeling now is enough talent coming through NZ, for 2 ALM teams, fleshed out with 4-5 visas each, plus some Aussies. You'd also presume any new Auckland team, would quickly set themselves up an academy trying to model Weenix
Scott Hales posted when Schrijvers signed for Melb Knights some ALM club should give him a chance, but unless he has that Aus passport it's the Nix, or overseas further afield.
The last pre season was difficult as Auckland was in Covid lockdown making it hard for domestic NZ players to trial. Was only Oli Whyte bought in from memory.
Hopefully a few non Weenix Kiwis get a chance this pre season. Prso & Bozinovski were both duds last season, so when looking at those sort of backup positions why not take a punt on a Kiwi like Schrijvers, Billingsley, Kalua, Dane Schnell or whoever.
Pretty much. It’s a bit crazy to think that if you’re a 18/19 year old kid in Auckland your pro chances, and by extension AW chances, are basically gone. How many key Auckland City guys have been given a proper run in recent years? Riera, Krishna, Lewis, Sigmund a bit earlier, could be forgetting some, but that seems like four hits out of the park from four. These guys regularly finish above the reserve players in the National League, but get overlooked. You add in half a dozen Australian guys on top of 5 visas, and you could have as few as 4 New Zealanders starting next season across every pro team in the country, compared to at least 70 Australians. An Auckland team is needed desperately, but isn’t coming at all in the foreseeable future.
It also flows through to AW selection, in that you need an arbitrary ‘pro’ deal to get a chance. Alex Greive started against both Peru and Costa Rica since only getting a deal in January, before that he was not even in the conversation. He didn’t become that good overnight after signing his name on Scottish paper, so why did it take that to get him a go? Same with Rogerson, he was captain and best player through the entire Olympic build up, but missed the tournament in place of Ben Old, due to Old being in a pro environment and Rogerson not. Old had only 7 A League minutes at that point, but because they were in a ‘pro’ league that put him ahead of Rogerson. Then, of course, Rogerson goes back ahead in the pecking order once signing a deal in Finland. This is a reason why the squads always look ‘young’, and “the next cycle will be the best yet”, because the younger players are the ones that can afford to go overseas to be ‘pro’ with the little job security and pay it offers.
But yeah Pragnell has said he wants an Auckland ALM team by 2026. Won’t be easy at all, but NZF support is at least a start.

It’s probably a little negligent not scouting all of NZ, but the players who are keen will likely be in your academy or at the least paying their way for a trial.
Would we sign Greive now if he hadn’t made the Scottish league? That’s an interesting question, likely not right?
