Jeremy Brockie (Edgeworth FC | Australia)
That makes things a little awkward...
Can only guess that maybe it was an option to go to a higher league or something?
They've changed coaches, haven't they? Could be part of it.
Maybe realised he's not getting any younger (still a few years left mind) and was tabled a huge offer from Sundowns that was too good to turn down, so tried to force SSU officials hand.
Another goal for Brocks
13' Modiba's neat cross in the box finds Brockie who makes no mistake from close range to grab the lead for Matsatsantsa #MTN8

And another
44' Brockie grabs his brace from close range with a well taken header #MTN8

That was goals number 50 & 51 for Brockie at SuperSport United
$856 payment
Damn thats better than NAB man of the match
Hello Hudson.... what else does Brocks need to do to get back into the AW squad?
I'd be curious what his fitness levels are like... i'm sure if you said to him, if you don't work hard enough I'm pulling you off the park, he'd run like a madman!
52nd Goal for Brocks, I think I saw the record goal scorer for SSU is on 57 goals
93' Brockie rounds off the keeper to grab Matsatsantsa's second #AbsaPrem

He is almost at the half way mark to reach the two highest scorers in the competition (both on 110 goals).
If he continues like this, he could probably do it - but I think if his rich vein of form continues, SuperSport will soon get an offer which may just be too good to refuse..

Has he looked elsewhere... Boxall got a gig in the MSL, surely Brockie based on form would be worth a look at. It would be harder for Hudson to ignore him there than it is with him in S.Africa

Fair point, hadn't thought of that.
From memory he scored quite a lot in the cup so he may be quite far off from the top. At the end of the day he's only been there for two seasons..

He tried to move within South Africa but Super Sport turned him down.
I was thinking outside of SA... I just don't know how well regarded that league is?
Is it considered one of the better African Leagues?
I've watched a bit of PSL, when visiting South Africa and sorry don't rate it. Also Brocks has topped up his goal tally (did he score 4 goals in one game??), with some African Champions League matches against club minnows from the Dark Continent - where the standard must be even more questionable.
With Smeltz & Falloon both aging and injury prone, Brockie will soon lie about 3rd rated AWs striker behind Wood & Bevan (if Bevan continues to progress). However if the Nelsonian goes to a better/more high profile league than PSL, and keeps scoring then yes Hudson (or next AWs coach) will obviously take more notice.
I think his goal scoring record for the AWs didn't really help either with him getting picked.
You've got to think that PSL >>> ISP Handa though right? But then again, why bring in a striker who can't score goals for the NT? I sort of understand why he has been overlooked.
Don't know where he could go outside of SA - you've got the MLS where he already played a bit and then Asia. Doubt he'd crack Europe at his age.
What kind of coin would he be on in SA?

Probably South African Rand :)
According to this, the highest paid player in the league earns R450,000 per month which equates to about $NZ47,000 or $NZ564,000 per year) - not too shabby really.
According to the same article, other players in the league aren't doing quite as well...
I couldn't find any information on Brockie's salary but he wasn't in the top 10 earners, meaning he must be earning less than #10, who is on R250,000 per month (approx. $NZ312,000 per year).
I stumbled across this article where the CEO of his current club said he could be on his way out by January or at the end of the season.
not a bad salary and scoring lots of goals, some good building blocks to a happy situation
SuperSport United progress to the African Confederation Cup semis after scoring an added time equaliser to progress on away goals. Neither goals were Brockie's tho

Some more silverware for Brockie as SuperSport United win the MTN8 on penalties, Brockie subbed off after 68 minutes when they were losing 1-0

Brockie extends the lead, 0-2 ahead now. Club Africain needs to score 3 now to progress.
[Edit: as I post they get a penalty, 1-2]
SSU progress to the CAF Conderation Cup Final, 2-4 on aggregate. They will now face last years winners, Tout Puissant Mazembe (Democratic Republic of the Congo) in the final.
Brockie has a 4 goal lead in the golden boot standings if wikipedia is accurate
They played twice in the group stages for a 0-0 & 2-2 draw
Another goal as SuperSport knocked out of the League Cup on pens, losing to Bloemfontein Celtic away.
Brockie converted his pen in shootout
Credited with 2 assists during a 3-0 PSL win over Golden Arrows a few days ago.
Due to Cup/African commitments Supersport have only played 5 PSL games to date, to be in 11th place.
Golden Arrows to date have played 10! PSL games to be 2nd

Guess Brocks will miss the first leg since he has been recalled to the AWs
Brocks apparently is the first non-African ever to be nominated for this award for "African Player of the Year (Based in Africa)".
It's awarded annually by the African Confederation to the best player playing on the African continent and is open to foreign-born players too.
South African report here goes into far more detail than the Stuff article and has an interview with Brocks:
