how on earth do you market brockie as a striker? His form and goal scoring record has been abysmal over the past 2 seasons. Who would pay decent money to him?
A team in a slower league with lower defending standards.

And wider/taller goals?
He just needs a good brochure.
needs to play in a team where he is one of 2 central strikers so he can drift in and out of the game - he is better than what he is showing at the moment but his confidence is shot.

He might not keep up with the pace there.
Doloras, any interest on part of Gaelic Football teams to enlist Brockie???

I've been watching the Indian League every week and I doubt he would make it there, but you never know.
Piney tweets that he has flown to South Africa for a medical there.
Just on Newstalk ZB sport news too.
Tyler Boyd will be quite happy with this. I suspect frees up a good portion of the salary cap. I would imagine that Brockie would have been on near 150k.
I would be interested as to who initiated this. Either the club saying they did not see him in the game style or him going to the club and feeling he needs more game time or simply a better offer.
His 1st season here was his best and failed to fire last year and probably played his way out with the lack of goals. I estimate 5 in his last 50 games which is a terrible conversion rate.
I do wonder if things may have gone different if he had had a preseason here instead of being in Toronto.
I wish him well for the future.

I'm sure he could get a trial with a good club side, but it's an amateur sport so he'd have to get a day job as well. :)
Thanks Jezza!
For the good goals in the bad times...
Guess there is 1 or 2 tvs for sale then
I really hope it works out for him and he can find his form again over there. I would say he would be a higher paid player in the squad after his season in 12/13 which leaves us some reasonable money for a stirker and if the rumours about Kenny wanting out are true then this free's up more money for a quality striker as by the Stuff article looks like we will be getting another youth player signed up cheaply.
Only downside is it still needs to be Kiwi or Aussie I guess.. Enigmatic player... Hopefully he can get back into scoring for AWS benefit as well.
If Kenny asks to be released too, that means we have two players of decent money leaving of which we could sign an import striker. I hope he does well in his new gig because if he is firing, its good for the AWs and him.
I firmly believe he has the yips and I think we can all agree that Ernie has more than persevered with him but it would appear that patience has run out. I guess it shows that Ernie is not afraid to make decisions like this (whether it be telling Brockie to find another club or granting a request from Brockie to leave the club). Either way, it signals that he was not going to get signed next year and that they believe in Boyd.
What does anyone know of Andrew Blake? I see he is listed as 31 on the match day sheets. I thought he was a defender. Does bringing him in for 6 months then allow the Phoenix to release another play at the end of the year? Say Shermy or am I on the wrong track?

Not necessarily. reckon he might have been offered a new contract on much lower coin. remember he was signed on after scoring a billion goals for the Jets. So potentially on a bit of money.
Blake has played as a midfielder for winter club. Think he is filling in at CB for the reserves as we have no one else.
That's a fair call too. Coming off a decent wedge etc etc. Kinda like Daniel.
Do we need another midfielder? We have Ridenton in the wings (he played a half at CB preseason) and Lia and A-Rod have been chopping and changing. I suspect Hicks will be let go because he is not getting near the team. If suspicion comes to pass, I ask why would you release Hicks, whom has had 2 years of investment for Blake unless Blake is going to be a damn sight better.
To bad it did not work out for him. Interesting to see that some players have a hard time to adjust to a new style of play.
I wish him and his family all the best in South Africa, hope he does well over there. We need him a in top form for the All Whites.
I'm not sure he's going because he hasn't adjusted or isn't part of the plans.
I get the impression he's going because someone offered a fee for him and he'll earn much more Wonga there so is happy to try his luck.
cya thanks for the goals a couple seasons ago. and thanks for nothing the last two seasons bar 5
Stay classy Chefmivec
milk was a bad choice

Obviously you are too nice of a guy to be mean on a forum not that you can anymore as you cant say Cod and fudge . I guess I am just a big meanie.
Thanks brockie you were a real gem the time you were with the phoenix . I will miss all of your goals you got us .
That is what I meant to say before .
P.S i'll try not to be a meanie as much as possible
By the way, for those people who said he only scored in games when we were losing, I went back to check.
In the 18 games he scored in, our record is W7, D3, L 8.
In those 8 losing games, he scored in to tie the game in 3 of those. So of the 21 goals, only 5 could be described as irrelevant.
How many goals in those game where we did win, were not going to affect the result? i.e. we won 3-1 and he scored the 3rd goal, so if it had not been scored, we would have still won 2-1.
Its ok to pull out the stat you just did but then the same goes the other way too.
Ah yes, but if he hadn't scored the 3rd the opposition may have held out hope and converted 2-1 into 2-2.
SImple facts are that Brockie is a kiwi who will be remembered for one heroic season at the Phoenix no matter how much he has been scapegoat of the week since then.
3 of those games we won by more than one goal. Victory and CCM last year. Jets the year before. Jets game he scored the first two, and would have had a third if it wasn't for Totori.

And that CCM he scored 4 minutes after coming on as a sub to make it 4-1. Scored the 4th goal in the Victory game.

Good luck to him. Could never say he didn't give his all for the club, and seems like a good guy too.
Surprised that there is that kind of money in South African football, though?

Get back to work. Want value for my tax dollars

Exchange rate isn't great but one of the wealthier leagues in Africa. Top players can earn decent $. Tshabalala is reported getting over NZ$400k, though he is at Chiefs and would be in the top tier of earners in the league.

I love it when stats triumph over someone being a stupid fudgeing Codface.
The Wellington Phoenix Football club can confirm it has given striker Jeremy Brockie permission to speak to an overseas club.
The Wellington Phoenix will be making no further comment on the matter at this stage.

was at that game.. I could only laugh

If suspicion comes to pass, I ask why would you release Hicks, whom has had 2 years of investment for Blake unless Blake is going to be a damn sight better.
I would argue that Hicks offers a useful cover and probably is not very expensive (by our standards). If we pick up an injury he can slot in at the left even if he is not the first (or second?) choice there. Young enough to learn new tricks and to run at a pace; old enough not to be easily pushed off the ball or intimidated, although was guilty of wayward passes just like anyone else. Scored a nice goal last year against CCM.
Blake is a promising young bloke but we need a good blend of experience and youthful zeal in the team, and we already have other young guys to bring up to standard (Rufer etc) so I would not let Hicks go for him as yet.
Well Brockie always gave 100% even when things werent going his way, you couldn't say for other people, so much respect to him for that. Good luck in South Africa
