West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo in a newspaper interview
"I am still a baby as a manager and I am going to try to become a child next season. I will have to grow up."
Missing again last night. They won 3-2 though. Yays.
He should do a Tommy Smith and go on loan to a League One side. Get some confidence and the experience of scoring goals in England.
Agreed, especially if he wants to push for a starting spot at the WC
He should come on loan to the Nix for a season. That'd be mean as !
Not in squad for WBA's recently completed win over Swansea City.
there is still media talk of him possibly being loaned to Bristol ROvers in League 1. it sounded like it was an idea thwarted by a couple of injuries WBA had a couple of weeks back, with Wood being needed as cover. Now it looks like their close to full strength and with multiple striker options so it could yet happen. it would be good for him to get some football bc also doesnt look like the ressies or academy team have been playing recently.
I think going on loan would be good for Wood at the present time. Hes been carving up for the Under 18's and Reserves which would usually mean hed at least get some game time off the bench but WBA have too many strikers at the moment. Like Cox didn't get on the field either yesterday and he's ahead of Wood in the pecking order. Whoever suggested he come to the Nix on loan though is deluded. He wouldnt come all the way out here and from a NZ Football point of view, I'd much rather he stayed in the UK.
Presuming WBA go up next year, how likely is it that he'll be kept on and see some PL action?
the WBA promotion scenario (very likely) has loan written all over it
He'll probaly get loand out if WBA get promoted. But it would really depend on what they do over the transfer period.
What would happen to Killen if Middlesborough got promoted??
True, Middlesbrough are still in with a playoff chance. We might get the same question answered twice. *KR*2010-03-18 16:52:56
That's why I'm hoping Boro don't get promoted, so that Killen has somewhere to play next year. Mind you, if Boro don't get promoted, Killen, McDonald etc. might get the blame.
Yeah, I was sort of joking, I love Wood. Think he is a big prospect, I know it'll never happen. And he'd be silly to come here.
He's described as a wonder kid on FM10!!
Also was highlighted in his own little segment on the last FIFA World Cup Preview Show on Sky as a potential candidate for "Hyundai Young Player of the Tournament" come June.
The show focused on Serbia and NZ- and neglected any young Serb players in favour of Chris!!!
The show by the way gave good coverage of the All Whites in qualification, interviews with Ricki, Ryan etc. and a nice interview with John Adshead on the '82 side.
A bonus is that Chris always interviews very well and has something to say- seems to have benefited from good media training at WBA.
Missed the squad again.
The ongoing saga of Wood's possible loan continues ...
Hopefully he goes somewhere and they actually play him
Here's a major international football players' stats site which rates players' skills under several categories and includes several current All Whites: the PES Stats Database.
Chris Wood's page is here:
Encouragingly, it rates him as high 70s into the 80s (percentage) for most skills!!!
And summarizes: "Talented young NZer should have a good career ahead of him."

according to bristol.co.uk (posted just a moment ago) ...
"The club, meanwhile, will find out this morning whether or not their attempt to sign West Brom striker Chris Wood on loan will come to a successful conclusion."
Google News is is my friend
West Brom didnt release him. No loan deal for Wood.
bugger. he could've really done with that aswell.
Started ahead of Cox and Miller today in a 4-5-1 by the looks - 1 all draw v Reading - subbed with 20 or so to go.
Subbed on 62 minutes. Hopefully he played well.
No game time for Wood this morning, but West Brom beat Doncaster 3-2 to earn promotion to the Premier League for 2010/11.
Now that they are getting promoted, might be more chance of getting a run
yeah hopefully Di Matteo notices the importance of playing Wood, considering he did hold him back from playing for another team on loan.
just watching the Football League show, with coverage of the WBA celebrations in the changing room after the Donny game (spraying champagne, showing off tatoos, smashing bottles over each others heads, etc). Wood in there, so hopefully he had a good night last night.
No sign of him this morning - thought now they're up he'd get more chances.
Herbert predicts a bright future to wood:
on bench this morning in 1-1 draw away to Palace. didnt get on.
If theyre not planning on playing him please Roberto di Matteo, loan him back to a Championship side next season. If he can't get on once theyve secured promotion in the Championship, theres no way hes going to get on in the Premier League.
He will definitely be loaned out next season
Chris won West Brom's Young Player of the Year award - that may be U20, not sure
good on him!! hope ricki gives him some gametime in sa, could get young player of the tournament too!!
Scored a hattrick last night ... admittedly for the reserves, but still good to see him getting goals
