The Suba-roos (Australian Men's Team)
But he has Italian citizenship, has played a couple of games for the Italian U-20 team and now that Mourinho is playing for Roma, he's probably made the decision to throw his lot with the Azzurri and it's hard to blame him.
Arnie has always seemed reluctant to select him, let alone play him. So was slightly surprised he was selected.
Yes Italy should be able to make a 48 team WC.
.....tongue firmly in cheek.
Graham Arnold’s Socceroos face the Three Lions on October 13 at Wembley – almost three years since the date they were originally pencilled in to play there before the fixture was scrapped due to COVID-19.
Not a good start to their U20 Asian Cup campaign, which doubles as qualification for the U20 World Cup later this year in which Australia need to make the semifinals in order to qualify.
Long road back from here, with games against Iran and Qatar up next.

Well they're at a big disadvantage this time around too. Have to win both remaining matches to get through to quarters, or bag a win and a draw at bare minimum and then rely on GD/other results falling their way to get to quarters.
Lovely goal from Vietnam to win the game too, like a knife through butter with that passing to beat a slightly wonky press.
Stats from the match too ⬇️
Gives me hope that our own U20 setup has got things right at the minute building towards the World Cup.
👀
Last pool game against Qatar, who have lost by a goal to both Vietnam & Iran. Iran beat Vietnam in their last pool game, and will be 3 teams on 1 win each.
Top 2 pool teams into quarterfinals.
Aus to play Uzbekistan
Semi finalists qualify for U20 WC
And Australia miss out on U20 World Cup qualification once more!
4th time in a row dating back to NZ 2015 that they haven't qualified for the big dance.
At youth level however, this is their fifth U20 World Cup qualification - and fourth since Australia joined and made the confederation stronger. Australia have only been to three - in 2009, 2011 and 2013. They've also been to two U17 World Cups and finished at least top four in the past three AFC U23 Asian Cups, including winning it in 2018 and finishing second in 2022.
Even their youth WC record is decent. They were quarterfinalists for the U20s in 2013 and 2015 and for the U17s in 2011. That is something New Zealand has never even managed on the boys' side and that Australia haven't managed since 2001.
They'll fancy their chances at 2026 with 48 teams, but it's weird the disparity of success, and I can't really think of any similar countries to that.
Certainly feels like it's not always Mexico, USA, Costa Rica + one other as it often seems with the senior men.
The @Socceroos squad is 𝐈𝐍 🇦🇺🚨

Alex Robertson is a guy they have been chasing awhile. On the books of Man City, dad's a former Socceroo but he was eligible for a few nations.
Ryan Strain has been called up to the @Socceroos squad to replace the injured Aaron Mooy.
— Petar Petrov (@PPetrov_FR) March 19, 2023
While Mooy’s absence is clearly not good news, I’m really happy about Strain, who’s having an excellent season in Scotland and deserves to get a chance in these friendlies.

On longer-term preparations for the Asian Cup and next World Cup cycle:
"I think that the best preparation is always to play the best. You can play easy teams and you win three, four or five nil and everyone's raving about that but you're not learning from your mistakes. For me that's the biggest thing - getting better and better as we move forward and giving these younger players that opportunity to be on field with the best. The belief that gives players, they feel like they belong with the best, and that's so important."
Looks like they only have the 1 game in this June window. Messi & Co in Bejing.
So well done NZF get the AWs 2 games.

The Olyroos into the Finals of this tournament with this win. Sounds like Jelacic was a stand out.
