Personally I think Shaw looks very very good and will turn out to be an excellent player for ManU, but my eyes still water at 30mil for someone so young and relatively unproven.

If an English player works out, then the value is better. $25m for Lallana, he turns into a top player and then stays with Liverpool long terms 5 years+ and they rarely go offshore (compared to players from other nations).
With overseas players, you get a great player who has no affinity to the country he is playing in, gets itchy feet or struggles with the culture after a few years and then says "I want out".
I would say that more English players see out their contracts when playing in the BPL than foreign players do (referring to requests for transfer NOT being released or put up for transfer)
But if the english player is a flop you lose out BIG time. So bigger risk there.

I agree. He makes the Arsenal a whole lot better in attack but at Liverpool he would've made them just a little bit better in attack.
At mid table clubs like United (Newcastle or Manchester) he would have made them a whole lot better though.

The pool of world class strikers available for transfer is drying up. We nabbed Sanchez, Atletico got Manduzic, Benzema signed a contract extension at Madrid. Most other top strikers are stable and not looking for a move.

Just clicked that Southampton have now made approx 90million pounds from transfers in this window, so as much as Liverpool really.
Interested to see who they sign before the window shuts.
They have bought one guy for 10mil so far, and still may sell Schneiderlin for big bucks yet.

It's bizarre to see so many go out and so few come in. They must have a strategy and plan up their sleeve but the later they leave it, the more the prices inflate as the options lessen. Saints fans must be tearing their hair out, and lots are having a go at LFC fans on Twitter like it's our fault they decided to sell! Haha.

They still have a number of good players from last season, as well as the best youth academy in the country. They will go and buy a few guys from the dutch league (that Koeman knows very well) as well as maybe 1 big (£15m-ish) signing meaning that their net spend for the summer will be about £50m profit. What they are gambling on is that a number of teams in the league are significantly worse than them (Burnely, WBA, Swansea, West Ham, Palace, QPR, Man Utd, Sunderland, etc).
In terms of transfers so far, the team I would be most worried about is Sunderland - apparently they have let 12 players leave so far, and only signed 3 guys on a free (including a reserve goalkeeper), and Patrick Van Aanholt from Chelsea. They only stayed up last season because of a miraculous run in the last couple of months of the season, plus Poyet (who I think is a good manager) always seems to be at loggerheads with the board, and could easily be out of the door pretty soon. All adds up to trouble.
Liverpool are back in for Konoplyanka (from Macca himself at Macca Rumours) and are set to make new moves for Moreno and Manquillo.
Apparently Sevilla are desperate for the Moreno money to spend on a replacement for Rakitic so willing to take less than the 20m to get the funds in the bank. The LFC 16m offer is still on the table.

Man City has to show it doesn't make a loss, but when you have an owner who will just replace any loss with his own cash, what's the problem?
What I'd like to see is that owners are duty bound to provide funding for grassroots football England wide, i.e. goes into one central fund to be spread across England and Wales. If an owner spends $200m on his club, he also needs to contribute a 2% donation of 4m.
If team spends just 10m per annum, they have to contribute just 400k etc.

But surely if an owner pulls out, the only way they can do this is by selling the club to someone who would need to show to financiers and the PL big-wigs that they can maintain the club at its current level of spending?
So what if there are no buyers and the owner is bankrupt?
