Palmer has pace can finish...

All players mentioned can contribute something to the team I'm sure

No 8  who came on yesterday looked like he can put himself about and might be a better option than the Chilean as off the ball he's poor good on it though,,,,

Haha yeah the bookings are a constant in-joke, you could offer me $5 odds that Jones wouldn't get booked and I probably still wouldn't take it.

However, I just wasn't very impressed with Palmer when he played for us. And considering Turner is the CF in the system, and Jones plays wide, he might be more valuable. Plus, you always get effort with Jones, he charges around the pitch for a full 90, always making tackles, even if they are crude.

I know its not a great alternative but I'd back him to score more goals than Palmer tbh, he has before.

EDIT: Big T I believe the number 8 was Greenhalgh.

Well Mark Jones was mentioned, Tewi Te Pou might come into the squad later, but until the 14th there's not much that can be done, then the transfer window will open and some deals might be made.

Considering his missus is a referee, even funnier.

Jones does have a big engine, I will give you that.

geez, maybe I should come out of retirement, need to get fit for the masters in Wanganui HAHAHA. To be honest their aren't that many players around of quality who aren't already playing NZFC. Must be some players in Wellington that want a game as their squad is totally different to last years. Travel could be a problem though !!!!!

Seems like Maloney is one of HW's young kids like Collier, strange because I didn't see him playing at all in the NRFL

N-Bomb. We should be thankful that we are even able to field a team now, with Thomas gone to TW. I believe Wallace and Kramer are off to Ole, Tyler Lissette still injured and I believe Parkinson has pulled the pin, it doesn't leave many options. On top of that Collier was injured although he is off to Ole as well. If you can conjure up some players that would be great, Waikato advertised for players and had bugger all responses.

I'm not criticising, just take it at face value - it is kinda strange playing someone who hasn't played Northern League Football. It is certainly a tough situation for the team to be in, almost fielding an entirely different XI to the first game of the year, it's going to be tough to pull out results , especially if the transfer market can't do us many favours.

I went down Tuesday night and had a look at the trialists. The biggest problem will be fitness for anybody that signs. Waikato need numbers so there will be a few signings who are probably a bit short of where they need to be. So if it takes 3-4 weeks for these guys to get up to speed there is only 2 weeks left. Good luck to the new guys.

Yeah the team's hands really are tied, having to bring in all these players who haven't been training because there's been no Northern League. Just unfortunate all round really.

A stat I'm going to confirm but I believe it is true - Waikato have not earnt a point at home since 2010. If not that, I'm nearly positive we have not won at home for a very very long period of time.

They drew with Otago 3-3 at home last season after being down 3-1, I was there so I think that's correct.

More team news, some local guys have joined the squad - Broderson, Kautai etc

Think it's a good move bit more depth. Think the players what are currently playing are better than ones brought in but least if injuries or don't want to travel down anymore happen at least Waikato have back up

Cossey's bought in a few of the boys from Wanderers that he knows and thats his perogative. I don't think Broderson is much but I thought the tall lad Fish would have had a nose in. He shows potential - whether he realises that or not... If anything, Wanderers boys will hit the ground running for NRFL...

As much as it is of a train wreck this year, its good that Cossey has had his chance because it was either going to be him or Steve Williams as the local coaches. I hope they keep him on next year and he gets to have a full team and preseason and I hope to a degree, that Steve can be bought in and that can form a partnership for the benefit of Waikato football. Coss will never set the world on fire with his coaching but he is also not a dummy. There is enough talent there in Waikato to be a tough middle of the table team if they put aside the bullshit and the parochialness that may have affected WFC over the year. I hope they find it.

Agree, it would be tough for any coach to win games when half his squad defects. As for Frishy, I thought he deserved a call-up too, he's played for them in the past and although he's probably not Prem standard he does bag a lot of goals to deserve a chance.

WTF - Go to the beach for a week and all hell breaks loose. On the player perspective, there aren't that many players you could bring in so Cossey has signed a few for sheer numbers. Steve isn't interested in WFC, ge is interested in Melville and that's it. The only person from Melville interested in bettering Waikato Football as a whole is Bruce Holloway. Will be interested to see what happens whne the Fedeartion gets involved. Will they keep the current coach or will there be a clear out and back to step one again with a new coach and players. I hope for the sake of Waikato football there is some stability.

Yeah I would keep Cossey in charge, changing managers and players again will help nobody, if we can keep the same pool of players plus maybe add a few Aucklanders similar in talent to Hicks last season and we could have a respectful franchise.

I did an interesting interview with Waikato's Jack Hobson-McVeigh last week. We talked about the tough season Waikato has had as well as looking ahead to the NRFL season. Transcript here if anyone is interested:

Taking up the role as head coach, and leading the coaching team, will be Peter Smith. Smith, a current National Talent Centre Coach for New Zealand Football, has plenty of experience in national competitions. In 2010, Smith coached the Waikato Football Club (WFC) youth team to their highest ever finish in the National Youth League. The following year Smith then led WaiBOP to the final of the National Women’s League.

And they didn't even tell him about it apparently, not ideal. I semi-understand why they want somebody with no club affiliations in charge, but the one problem that Waikato FC have had is a lack of continuity, we had a promising squad at the end of last year, how does this help?
