What's the feeling within TW ranks about the coming season? With the seeming dismantling of Waitakere is TW up for a serious bid for ASBP and O League honours?
Team Wellington... no longer an association with Ole. Chur

Pat Fleming just announced as signing.
Hope he comes back at pre broken leg standard
Interesting re: Spoonely and Basalaj. Probably in direct competition for the 3rd World Cup spot if we qualify, and also in direct competition to be the first injury call up to the Phoenix.
Chettleburg signed....I'm assuming Frodo will be signed soon.

New Team Wellington signing Jamie De Abreu hopes to use the national league
as a stepping stone to a professional contract with the Phoenix.
An Australian, De Abreu played for the Stirling Lions in the Western
Australian Premier League (2007-2012) before moving to Bentleigh Greens SC in
the Victorian Premier League.
He has scored four goals this season for second-placed Bentleigh.
''After speaking to [coach] Matt Calcott he made it very clear that there was
a clear pathway to get to the Phoenix and play professional football which has
always been the dream,'' De Abreu said.
''Also Matt is assembling a very good team from what he has told me and
should be challenging for honours this year, which was another factor that was
appealing to me."
De Abreu had spoken to players who had recommended the national league, which
kicks off in November.
''They have only told me good things. The standard is very good and the
professionalism of the league is also good, so I'm very excited to get over
there and start playing.''
Calcott has just returned from a recruiting trip to Melbourne.
"Our scouting on Jamie indicates he should do well in the ASB Premiership and
brings good experience into the squad with the success he's enjoyed and the
leadership role he had at the Bentleigh Greens SC,'' Calcott said.
"We are very happy to have Jamie on board as he has been in excellent form in
the Victorian Premier League and will be a fantastic addition to the squad and
certainly add to the level of competitiveness for starting positions amongst the
squad.''
De Abreu is Team Wellington's fourth signing, joining Jacob Spoonley, Tobias
Bertsch and Patrick Fleming.
Didn't TW try a couple of Aussies last year with limited success? Ricky Zucco?! and the striker from Brisbane
George Slefendorfas, ex Heidelberg and Sunshine George Cross and now with Eastern Subs in NL Ist Div, after an OK first season with Canty Utd hardly set things alight last year either.

tyler holmes - good player apparently, but buggered off.
"Auckland City’s competition season commences with the ASB Charity Cup match away to Waitakere United on 3 November 2013. Their ASB Premiership campaign kicks-off a week later with an away trip to Team Wellington on 10 November. The full season draw is still to be finalised and will be published as soon as all details have been confirmed."

Exodus Team Wellington is pleased to announce the signing of Colin Murphy for the 2013-2014 ASB Premiership.
Murphy has represented New Zealand at various age group levels including attending both the 2007 Under 17 World Cup in South Korea and the 2011 Under 20 World Cup in Columbia.
Murphy originally started his career with Onehunga Sports before undertaking his tertiary studies at Boston College where he proved durable during his career as he appeared in all but one match in four years and made 77 starts and 82 appearances.
^^^^ Anyone know anything about him? I could google I suppose....

decent youth international, defensive midfielder
With Spoonley being signed a while back, does this mean Scott Basalaji has been successful overseas? any update on him?
if he were to come back would team welly pick him up?
Interesting point. Is Imray playing?

Interesting point. Is Imray playing?
Nope
the problem with having only one team in this area is that many good players will not be playing in the asb prem
it's amateur, so no one over the age of 20 will bother traveling out of town to play
imray being probably the best example
not long ago he was being called upon as the phoenix number 3, now he's not even in the national league
and many would agree that he's a better player now than 2 years ago and is still in his mid/late 20's
I wonder if he is not playing by his own choice though? Had a few chats with him last year and I got the feeling he was getting ready for a break
I see James Musa is returning to play for Team Wellington after being released by Fulham. A good signing for TW.
Any other interesting news from TW for the new season?
Where did you hear about Musa with TW?

Edit: ugh I'm an idiot.
Ah im guessing Hobbs was cut by Portland then. Hicks is a good player
Jason Hicks! I envy you lot, one of the best midfielders not to have made a significant jump into a national environment (not even NZ A). Such a classy player, can pass, tackle, shoot, everything you want from a midfielder.
TW will be a good spot for him, he was a star at Waikato, played well when he got a chance for Auckland but that was in limited time, he should start in the centre of midfield for you lot and he'll be top notch.
I agree. This is interesting. Wonder if this gives James the inside running to play for the Phoenix in their first game. Moss and Spoonley will be away with the AWs, and Italiano won't be back from injury.

Still to come in presumably.
Opportunity to put a geniune NIx Youth side in ASBP gone
Closed shop isn't it? If your not Phoenix Youth or Miramar you not in!!!!!!!
Team miramar in disguise.
ironically, miramar would probably give this lot a bit of a run around
Patty Fleming signed as well.. Hope Matt has time to get the team working together. Looking like a great squad though
the team looks good so far, but definitely needs work if they are going to challenge
i don't see anyone there who can run things like cheriton did. it also lacks a goalscorer and someone to tell musa where to stand like johnny raj did a couple of years back
also, how good are hobbs and murphy? they were decent kids when i last saw them play but well short of the best players that they will be up against in asb prem. so i'm hoping they've continued on their upward development curve, otherwise they won't be able to touch anything that auckland or waitak have to offer
hicks, great signing. but he walked away from auckland last season - why?
realistically, auckland have recently had players like andreu, esposito and souto who are all a-league standard or there abouts. as a team, they have always seemed equipped to give an a-league side a good run. this squad at the moment looks very much like a potential future a-league player fry up and a shade or two off what auckland and waitak have put out over the last few years.
OK, just add and imports! to previous post.Thought TW was orginally set up to reflect the name.
It still appears to be a shut out for any other potential players (or development of) to make the step to ASB level in the Wellington/Lower North island.
I also hear if you sign for Team Wellington. Miramar hold your registration. In the fine print!
