Regardless of yesterdays result, i think Luiz has overachieved, i didn't think they'd even score a single goal this season, let alone draw against Wellington & grab a couple of wins
Southern Football (incl Southern United)
.... I guess with the other factors with this young lad, it could wreck you. I hope it does not. Sounds like he had a reasonable game from what I read. I hope the coaching staff impress that point on him as well.
In credit to them, by the sounds of it they have and he was given team man of the match.
Maybe just me but if you lose may that many maybe best to flag the man of the match for that game.
What's going on with the youth team?
How has Mike "Woy Hodgson" McGarry & Brookside aka "David Moyes" managed to dismantled a team that made the final just 12 months ago?

Webb-Wright, he isn't a centreback right?

Scott Gannon
Ryder Sam Aajay Regan
Tommy Jackson
Coaches: Aaron and Horner.
Subs: Liam, Morgan, Ants + 2 youth

I was wondering when someone would bring this up. Not sure how you get away with playing your son who can't even run, whom is a left back (and an average one at that) in the middle of the park all season. Disgraceful really. Brookside, any comment.

Five year plan also
Ha classic Brookside - might have a point though, the boy might be OK in five years.
The only words Luiz needs to say at training tomorrow night is..."i quit" but probably won't be there as he'll be dropping some mate off at the airport

Hello Beaver - none of the methods mentioned are detrimental to football development unless the are overdone, session after session, at the expense of developing a system of play the players know how to operate within and the required tactics that go along with it week in week out. I thought I had employed enough scarcasm within the post to poke fun with a tongue in cheek. Sorry if I didn't make it that obvious. Some very interesting reading in the thread today making a great deal of sense. Totally agree with Kennedy - he appears to know football and from Vader and Big Pete. Even Gannon making me think.

Correction. Batty is good. Matt Joy also. Mepham and Regan still have promise. Sorry.
Fair call Doogal. Polishing a turd won't make it a diamond.
However, in saying that, the things that are being talked about are pretty much coaching 101 at National League level. Should be minimum requirement. Doesn't Luiz have a truckload of qualifications?

SA you are being silly now. Since when did coaching qualifications mean a hill of beans?
Indeed correct Doogal. Am chuckling at the quotes. It has been a tremendous season for misguided excuses and some self-justification of a most ridiculous nature.
A bit of pride to play for against Wanderers, SU need positive result to avoid the wooden spoon.

Let's push the boat out and get Sir Steve Flemming, then we will have a winning coach and players wanting to play for Otago again

Always had good connections when i came down to getting imports as well. Maybe Frankie and Andy are keen for a game.
Malcolm Fleming in today's paper "was saddened by the 10-0 loss " haha yeah fuckin right!!!!!!!!

A total crap read why didn't the Journo say what all others are thinking needs to be done.
Get rid of the coach he has shown he has a big ego and no substance.
Needs to spend more time at training also.
And you say, "Didn't say what all others are thinking needs to be done"
Well he's saying pick the best players for starters! He cites Flem:
"You've got to make sure the best players are available and this is not the best squad we could have. That is common knowledge."
Common knowledge indeed. Where's Jackson? Where's Gannon? Where's Ryder? These boys are quality and they will play on the sniff of an oily rag, or in Gannon's case the sniff of a woman's fanny and a few stolies.
Gannon , quality???? Are u fuckin pissed??? Terrible footballer, fletcher cup at most . Even then he still doesn't stand out !

I don't get you SR. The article is here ODT Article
I think he plasters SU. Burgess and Fleming lay down what should have happened and what should now happen now. The journo isn't gonna say that himself is he? He's just gonna quote the experts and stop his ass from being sued. That's what journos are like. But read between the lines. He says vultures are circling. I hope they like BBQ Brazilan and HART meat.
Did anyone go to the AGM that could give us a run down on what happened?

Just read the article & something caught my eye right at the bottom
Luiz has more points than Richard Murray last year & still has a game to go!
C'mon guys, sort your act out down in Dunners before I'm forced to move down there later in the year by exorbitant rents in post-quake Christchurch.
I want to have a decent national league side to support -or at least a team. Seems to me you may lose national league football if it goes on like this...
Big Pete to run SU, at least we would have that Canterbury winning attitude
Opening game of the SPL will see Wright return to sunnyvale for battle of the saddle.....
Southern United added two new experienced players to its team this week, when Aaron Joy and Bevan Rickerby were elected to the clubs Board of Management at a midweek AGM.
.......
Both are experienced administrators and will add credibility as the Board almost immediately considers a Management Review of this years performance.
Joy is General Manager for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015, arrangements in Dunedin, and Rickerby, a former Footballsouth Chairman, has been involved in senior cricket and football administration.
In fact there will be a measure of deja vu in Rickerby's appointment, since he held the same post in 2008 when Wilson James resigned his General Manager job to take over Finance, and former Director of Football, Johan Koutstaal took over the New Zealand Football role of regional coach development co-ordinator based in Dunedin.
Koutstaal is now back in Holland : I Started my own company called '22'. Hoping to use my experience in sports to benefit others. Taking on all sorts of sports projects like coaching, mentoring, setting up strategic plans etc. Currently doing work for football club 'sv Slikkerveer' in Ridderkerk. Good Luck, Johan.
However Southern United retirements by chairman Phil Cunningham, manager John Mathias, Darren Burden and Dave Lamont, leave the lesser known Kevin Kaiser, Marcel Rodeka and Gerry Sannum to soldier onwards, with Invercargill based Ken Creswell reportedly still involved.
One could compare the admin reshuffle to Southern United's playing strength, which regularly suffered from defections and many injuries, but in the season's final match against Wanderers in Invercargill on Sunday, - United needs a big effort to evade the Wooden Spoon award for bottom place.
In the first round, Southern beat Wanderers 2-1 in a dramatic match, where Andrew Ridden, and Henrique Viana scored, but the team went down to ten men for a nail biting last half hour.
Southern coach Luiz Uehara has talked at length of long term targets, including 'match perception,' and ' awareness of strategy'
but his tenure as coach this season will probably be judged by evading that bottom slot.
He has the experienced goalkeeper Jefferson Potrich back between the sticks, and as near a full squad as he has had for some while. The only recent absentee is midfielder Sam Mepham who is under suspension.
However the more players that are available, in a way sets Uehara more problems, since he has rarely fielded a settled team, and his player selections have generated some opinionated debates among Southern supporters.
Wanderers coach Darren Bazely also has preached pure football to his Youth team, but like Uehara may consider a more direct approach using pace and penetration on Sunday.
The former Watford professional is preparing his side for the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2015, and in this final match realises just how important it is for morale - not to finish bottom in the ASB Premiership.
Wanderers recently lost defender Brock Messenger and the Australian based twins, Tom and Stephan Trbuhovic, who have all returned to Australia.
But coach Bazely is still positive, he has been quoted as saying, 'Opportunities aren’t lost. They’re taken by someone else.'

Southern is two points ahead with seven points from 13 games including two wins and a draw. Its Goal Difference is minus 33, after conceding 47 goals.
Wanderers presently sit bottom with five points from one win and two draws in 13 matches, and a Goal Difference of minus 18.
A draw would suffice for Southern, but both teams are likely to go for the jugular in a ' winner take all' approach, which should entertain Invercargill's footballing public on Sunday at 2 pm. At the other end of the ASB table, defending champion Waitakere has to win to make the top Four Play-offs. Canterbury can sneak in with a draw in Whenuapai.
There appear to be TEN goals surfacing... could be an Auckland complaint ....
