the coach has to seriously look at the uni players, they were not up to the challenge, Peter Rae was dismal, his passing was poor, i counted four passes to the opposition players. Taylor McCormack impressed me upfront, I for the life of me cannot understand why he was taken off at halftime, Taylor should have stayed on and dropped Rae, I think the combination  of Taylor and Henrique will go well together. I like the look of Jacob Schneider.

The backs were shocking, without Joy they were a lost group with no clues. The team needs Jude and Ross Howard.

I thought Henrique looked like once he settles and gets match fit he could be a bit of a threat. Was disappointed to see Geordie subbed, he worked hard and off the ball. Patrick being a step above in terms of control made him good to watch, but some frustratingly poor passes at times though and as the deepest lying midfielder needed to compete more strongly off the ball. Also think he looked too central with his passes too often, very frustrating when the wide men had room. Batty the Otago MotM for me.

What was wrong with Joy? And how fit is Caldicott? What formation did Southern play?

Don't think anyone could have predicted that starting line-up or some of the players that missed out all together. Wonder if Luiz will make any changes for the next game (Mepham anyone?????????). Didn't Coldicott get injured at 7s? that may be why he didn't play from the start? Good to see Taylor getting a run up front but dissapointed not to see Big Dan in there.

Were there any decent opportunities for us or was it all one-way traffic?

The only person making opportunities was TM in the first half, if it was not for the keeper it would have been 10

Potrich, Attwood, Higgins/Wrightwebb, Rae, Taylor/Morris,

I agree with the 4-5-1 cos we need men behind the ball and to play on the counter with width and pace.  But I don't like playing left-footed players on the right side and vice versa.  From what I saw/think I would go with this.
Batty
Schneider Joy Overmire Mansford
Ebanda
Coldicott Mepham Cunningham Hindson
McCormack
Subs: Potrich, Atwood, Mansford, Day, Morris
I still have no idea why very average players like Higgins, Wrightwebb, Flood, and Rae are in the squad at the expense of much better talent.  Oh, hang on, they're Uehera and Hart's boys - that's right.

It is beyond me how average southern league players who wouldn't start at either of cavy/tech/roslyn are in the southern squad let alone starting. Some very biased selections and frankly from the few southern league games I observed this year ludicrous selections

I had a look at the team sheet and I couldn't believe my eyes.  The best two teams in Dunedin for Donkey's years have been Cavy and Tech and yet there was only one Tech player that featured in the weekend and no Cavy players at all.  What are you guys on down there?

Sounds like it's going to take a while to get sorted. Is Luiz capable of getting the best out of them players? Is there lot's of potential in a few of them? Are the games on Otago Channel 9 this year?

From what i heard, the problem is no one from Tech or Cavvy wanted to play for Luiz & the ones that did (Howard & Fitzpatrick) were overlooked..

The right back is one of the worst players i've seen at National league level, can't be having a fullback that can't pass to a team mate, disgrace that Howard was overlooked, left back is just as bad

Luiz is just a D level coach & the majority of the players are C's & D's

The biggest mistake was appointing a coach with no record. Look at Canterbury finishing near or bottom for two years gave job to a coach that could build winning teams.
So what does the worst team in the SI do. Has he got a two year contact?
Top club teams at MPL [and some of the bottom teams] and SPL would beat this bunch.
How about $10k for a striker that did FA for the 45 mins he was on, sorry change that he did get a flick on to two headers to find the Waitak deferders.
POTD goes to a player Patrick pass it sideays or back only, dragged off at the 65 min mark, are you kidding me if he's MOM he should be doing 90 mins plus creating something or than a woeful shot from way out in the first half.
Still from a coach with no clues how to play for a draw let alone the wins he reckons this team are going to get.
Can't wait for the Canterbury v SU game in Invercargill can Canterbury get 10 goals.
Hope that video gets a good airing at training, show the defenders how thay played 2-2- at the back marking 1 Waitak player.
Not surprising the 2nd and 3rd goals came from 1 v1 with the keeper.

What four?

I know of these:
Steve Fleming (most everyone's #1 choice)
Paul Marshall, but very late in the piece (yeah truly I heard from a good sauce)
Tim Horner (smart guy though Horner, biding his time)
NatPevin (the people's choice, and Matt Joy's favourite )

So which of the crop of coaches doing the jobs at SU this season is overseeing the defensive side of things?
Hope they have been working overtime this week and getting the feet and body position moving quicker with little steps not big strides.

Yes Batty.

So is the Southern United website well behind the times. Doesn't Rab get told anything?
I chatted to a couple of Mainand boys heading to the Futsal Nats Rnd 2 in Wellington this morning.
They had the same story, seems team got told of starting spots after training with TB on the bench, he had to ask the coach why.
Tom staying in Dunners for the weekend and may be the coach has given him his one game for the season.
Thinks because JP comes from Queenstown on game day he should get a run. Don't know how many training JP has been to.
So on this line of coaching RH will drop Moss for Wednesday.
More to come once the weekend over.

Scottie this is insanity.  If that's the case and Ridden doesn't make the bench it will be the first time I can ever recall an Otago/SU side without a single Cavy or Tech player in the match day squad, never mind the starting lineup!  Old Harley up in the HB will be laughing his head off.

Maybe they've seen the strength of your team and are also taking the opportunity to rotate players comfortable in the knowledge you haven't got a shit show? :)
There is obviously no expectation of performance from the coaching team by the board .

Batty has been dropped from the starting line up for no reason! This is an absolute joke Luiz! What are you playing at?? Not time for experimentation! Tom batty was the best player on the park last week! 3-5-2 formation with regan and Geordie on the bank...need speed and regan has that! Need compare and Geordie has that! Good for Daniel Morris getting a start though, he deserves it! I hope they get up but there's something going wrong here! Rant over!

If what is being discussed re: Batty is actually true Luis has lost the plot already. Horrible decisions last week playing his Uni boys who weren't even close to being up to it, now brings in his Uni (Brazillian) keeper to replace the Man of the Match last week. Batty's performance was similar to Moss v Mexico kept the score respectable.
3 5 2 will actually end up being 5 3 2 and will mean they sit way too deep on a big pitch and will only be a matter of time before the brazillian keeper has a brain explosion. I am picking 5-0.
