I like watching the tall centre back for Cavvy play (Fitzpatrick?), always creates space on the ball.
Joel in the paper playing for OGHS, forget how young he is, will be good to see him with strong players this year.

I've seen Fitzpatrick twice and he looked good and looks to play to feet instead of hoofing it all day, but he made mistakes based on his inexperience when I saw him. I think either he or Lockhart could turn into that centre back Conte is looking for - they are both tall and have pace. But they are both just 20 I think and that's young in that key position - I hope thay can step up if they get the chance.
Looking forward to seeing De Costa play then!

Haha nice Dino - Joel at OGHS!
Season kicking off first week of November (still havnt seen or heard of a fixtures list anywhere). Anyone heard of any season tickets on sale? think they need to build a base support. I managed to watch the boys play Auckland City away last season and their fans were singing and chanting the whole game which was fantastic, Would be good if we could get something like that going on down here.
Are the two brazilian lads (Daniel the GK and Melo) who play for Varsity still travelling from Q'town each week or they here now in order to play NZFC?
Where are the home games going to be this season? Stadium?
They will never get a home base support that chants...not down here
The South is very conservative.
Maybe Varsity students could start a 657 Crew.
Well done Cavvy and bad luck Tech. Wasn't much between the two I'm told. Bit of a gap to the rest though. Hope for a more competetive comp next year.
What's Horner doing in that photo in today's ODT? He looks like he's gone all Mexican.
First game of the season at home to Manawatu. Also the home match against Wellington is set to be played in Invercargill which should be interesting. Rumours of a curtain raiser to the Phoenix being chucked around. And the boys will play a frioendly against the Pheonix reserves at some stage during the season aswel.
apart from Stevens, would any of the other GI lads make the step up to nzfc level?
Heard that Scott Gannon may be returning from Aussie, at this stage Joel and Scott would be the only two players from GI that could step up.
In another year there may be another two but still too young.

would just be a squad filler, i would have Aajay ahead of him
when is the squad getting together? would be nice to be a bit more prepared than previous seasons
Word from Roz boys is there was a meeting last week. Not much money again this year so not much chance of a marquee player - training starts next week.
Bunch of other news around the traps too but I don't want to gossip until I know more!
i think they should do what they did last year & just keep it local, would be nice to have a prolific striker
I think you will have your wish about local lads Conte - they are happy with keeper and back 4 options and are looking for 'maturity' in midfield. There is concern about attacking options. Aaron Burgess...calling Aaron Burgess..anyone there?
would be nice to see burgess have another crack, when does Tom Jackson finish University?
Jackson and Burgess up front together - imagine that again! Last time was in 08/09 I think. We did Ok that year, there were some narrow losses Jackson is gone until next May/June surely. And Burgess - well will he want to come back ever?
what about Rickerby? he got a few goals this season
He has shown his quality in the local league for a few seasons and has had a good year I'm told. So I don't disagree. He played for Otago a few times under Terry and Malc and I saw him, but my memory is fading as to how well he did. What is he now 27? I think he is one of those players that if he works hard and gets his fitness and speed optimised he can do alright at national league level. Just my opinion not a criticism of him because he is a decent lad.
OU to play the curtain raiser before the Phoenix play Sydney FC in December. Could be a good trip to see them play and also see Del Pierro at the same time. Anyone looked into prices of flights round that weekend? Good to see a game being played in Invercargill aswell, they need to build interest throughout FootballSouth. Are they going to play any pre-season games this year?

I had a look about a week ago and if ya wanna bus to CHCH and go Jetstar you could get there and back for around 200-ish. Flying direct, up Saturday, back Monday is $260.
I was keen, but unavoidable commitments in town.
who from Roslyn is keen to play, what about Foster?
From Rab via email
Hi Guys,
Are you ready ? National League starts 4th November....
coach Richard Murray reports -
We will be doing fitness and speed testing at the Edgar Centre at 6pm on Wednesday 12th Sept - all are welcome to observe
We will then start training on Tues 18th Sept. and on Thurs 20th Sept, and there will be a game for some trialists on Sunday 23rd Sept against the Asia Pacific Academy
Cavy and Tech boys will start training slightly later on Tues 25th Sept
We will train Tues and Thurs 6-8pm and Sat mornings, and are also working on the possibility of a game or 2 with Canterbury United.
We will start signing players this weekend onwards with the first couple of weeks a trial period for others. We have had interest from out of town players who also wish to trial so we will see what happens there,
however the majority of the squad will again be local.
Richard.

and enjoy some brilliant kids games at halftime at the ForBar, as well as top senior football.
cheers, Rab
Pretty intersting post from Otagofan. Seems to me like the Cavy and Tech players who were with Otago (plus Liam Little) last year are already picked - that's 9 players: Little, Fergusson, Ryder, Fitzpatrick, Hancock, Ridden, Prattley, Joy, Lockhart. Wonder where that leaves the likes of Da Costa and Rickerby then - are they shoe-ins as well just because they are Tech players? Bit bizarre in my mind that players like Morgan Day, Joel Stevens, Tom Connor and Sam Mepham will have to turn up a week earlier than the Cavy and Tech lads.
who from Roslyn is keen to play, what about Foster?
Unfortunately Foster is heading to Europe shortly.
long term? kiwisaver will fall apart
That's funny - it might have been good having some who works for Forsyth Barr playing at the Forsyth Barr...all the best Damo.
Been away for awhile, new season coming up looking forward to Otago lads playing well and upsetting a few teams.
Anybody know what time this game against the APFA is supposed to happen
Hope to see about 8-9 caversham players in the fold this season chooooooooooooooo
8-9? Little, Fitzpatrick, Ferguson, Ryder, Hancock and Ridden I guess (midfield spots are going to be a scrap) is 6. Where are you getting the other 2 or 3 from? I know you won the league but I think there will be just as many (if not more) Roslyn lads in there...
Nice trolling..
The Perennial Placed 3rd team will struggle to have any players in the starting 11..
Well I wasn't particularly trolling - perhaps I just took the bait from CavershamAFC. But Tom will start surely? Mepham was ever present last year; a coach like Richard Murray doesn't just go off people like that. Will be interesting to see if Aajay gets the nod in the first game; he's ahead of Ridden IMO but maybe not De Costa. Pete (I hope) is on the bench as will be Govan I think. So 3 to start and 2 on the bench is not unreasonable. Watson and Mitchell in the squad as well = 7. More than Cavy (or Tech or anyone else for that matter) will have I reckon.
Ok.. I agree with Tom.. :)
I think the Midfield will be a different unit than last year, depends on formation's
Wish you'd put your thoughts down on paper Dino. I'm at work with nothing to do and this forum could do with a bit of the old wild speculation that used to be a feature.
I have my doubts that Pete would be willing to sit on the bench all summer, especially since he has a baby to look after now. Unsure who will be back up to Liam tbh, seems were lacking keepers down this way.
so, who are the players that turned up for training last night?
Ferguson still with grion problems, Ryder spent most of the season on the bench or playing seconds (cant see him starting)
What makes Little better than Pete ( jury still out on that one ) Ridden athletic but first touch is average and can be lazy defending
Ant Hancock ( Quality )
Harley Big loss
Throw a blanket over the rest of the Cavy boys not much between them
