Nayland College is second best in the country. The talent is there, just got to keep it in the region!

You'd still have to beat Woolston Tech to claim that title. You guys would be better off in Napier.

If they can't televise the Chatham Cup, then what chance do you think that this would get televised.

But Nayland College are the second best school in the country. I'm sure a team from the South Island would be very competitive, I just don't get why only one team from the South Island is entered the whole "National Champs"

Remind me, what team won the National Youth League final 6-0 earlier this year?
Remind me. How many times has a South Island team won in Napier?

Before 2006 there weren't any South Island teams up there.
2006: Chch Tech - Satellite Tounament Winners. Qualify for main draw.
2007: Chch Tech only south island team in competition - winners
2008: Runners up
2009: Dunedin Tech win Satellite Tournament (didn't have the bankroll to send team up this year)
In the short time that the South Island teams have taken part, they have been successful.
And Feverish, even the top Welly teams would dominate the Sth Island, let alone the top Auckland teams.

Do you think the rules are different for SI teams? They are allowed the same amount of guest spots as any other team in the competition. Given they have been in Napier 5 times, won twice and got runner up once. That's a better success rate than any North Island team, No? This is Tech's first poor finish since they've competed, and in your eyes, that's grounds to call the quality of football from the entire south island sh*t. Stop being so ignorant.
The competition where they do have "the pick of the bunch" is the National Youth League. And we all know what happened there.
A committed defensive effort paved the way for success for the Nelson Suburbs under-19 football team at the South Island club championships at Labour Weekend.
The side, which was coached by John Slotemaker and Brendan Crichton, went through the tournament unbeaten, scoring 32 goals in their six matches and conceding only one.
In the final they beat two-time defending champion Western, from Christchurch, 2-0, with Nayland College's Gagame Feni, recently selected in the Canterbury United ASB Bank premiership side, scoring a brace.
Slotemaker said all members of the team played their part over the weekend, but he gave special praise to the the defensive unit of James Hockley, Erik Panzer, Niall Young and Isaiah Dayman.
"The reason we did so well was because the defence played so well."
Panzer and Young had their best matches in the final, Dayman was unflappable throughout, and Hockley provided some mongrel.
He said the team also had Feni and Jerry Donga scoring seven goals each, and substitute Darrell Hannah providing impact off the bench.
Slotemaker said the victory was especially pleasing given the strength of some of the teams at the tournament, with Western fielding a number of players from its Mainland side, and two Dunedin clubs entering strong lineups.
"All 16 players would have played in every game, including the final ... that was one of the keys. We've got a really strong group of players, right through the 16."
It was more evidence of Nelson's ability to find and develop promising footballers.
"We've never had any problems producing young players, it's just a continuation of the last four or five years of youth development."
Zara Walker, Bridget Milne and Emily Jensen were part of the Coastal Spirit side that lost the women's under-19 final to Waterside Karori
And Feverish, even the top Welly teams would dominate the Sth Island, let alone the top Auckland teams.
I will put my twopence in for what it maybe worth.
Tech will not get relagated to the SI tournament as is taken over more than the one year of results. Tech had early games on both the first two days. The speed and strength of the NI teams played a big factor in the outcome this comes back to playing week in week out in a mens grade
as Birkenhead u19 do. The years Tech have done well they have had players playing in the MPL, Tane Gent only went up to Napier on the Sunday.
Tsunami TM
Dunedin Tech I thought may have done better after the Saturday morning showing.
How many of the Nelson team at the Tsunami T/M can play again next year or the year after?
The Nomads team at the tournament have 14 of their guys available for the next 2 years and a couple of them 3 or more years.
North Island or South Island, who's the best this year?
Makes the NYL a not to miss set of games, lets see what the NI teams can do this time.

For a one off novelty. Don't mistake that for a week in week out crowd. The Phoenix got 30k for a finals match...
Still though other teams would not get that for a final. At the very least it means that Nelson should be given two games a season to host as a minimum.
If Nelson were to get a team it would probably be the biggest team in Nelson (that does not mean they would get the highest crowds) because they only get a few ITM Cup games and a few 20/20 games per season.
