6 or 7 of those in the Dragons Squad have either not featured in the MPL or are not regular starters....interesting that but good to see some young talented players involved
Canterbury United
Some regard loyalty as a good trait.
I think that dragons squad looks very weak compared to last year. What happened to Coey and Danny in goal and are the best keepers really 3 kids? Also seems like a lot of the players can't even make an MPL starting XI so whats up with that? I hope they do well and I trust willy as our coach but I struggle with about a third of this squad being selected.

Coey is over in the UK at the moment, trying his luck over there.
Why does he insist on picking Juan Chang must see something in him that NOBODY else does!

its only a training squad, would expect the final squad to look a bit different

That's awesome, good luck to him.
Also that's a very good point about it being just a training squad and there being more players included later. Funny looking at the incorrect spelling of some of the names though Sean 'Liddlecoat', Pietr Taco 'Beirma' and Liam 'Garethy'.

Also no Clapham
Is Clapham playing well for Cashmere? Any chance he'll go elsewhere for summer footy?

Plays when he wants to and has been decent but a bit rusty. He retired from national league part way through last season so I imagine that's the reason he isn't in the squad.

No the best keepers in Chch are not the 3 kids Willy has. Maybe the best keeper in Chch has been playing in midfield this season and enjoying it by all accounts.
I think the case with some players is they have more things to do than train 4 times a week plus also give up a day and a half for away trips.
If you are 20 year olds then fill you team with them, Jacinda paid them to have free time.
Also I'd say no loyalty from Willy as he is known to muck players around. Bring players in from out of town that are worse than the locals and then play the oots, That would really make you want to go back for another year, not.
Sorry but if Willy wants the best players in the correct positions he needs to get back to the real world of lower level football. You are not coaching Liverpool or Citeh.
In NZ most players play because they enjoy it if you don't rate the coach or the attitude of same [or like the Manu guys can't give a monkey other than the pay] then you tell the coach to stick it.
I know Willy has been in touch with a player who may have played if he was allowed to train as and when he wants [say Thursday night plus another to suit work etc] and not stuck same old same old training. You can get bored shark less with the 12 months football routine.
Has Dan Terris retired?
I've just seen the English Cup final programme and he's not listed. Don't recall him playing for Tech this year at all.
No has been in the squad this season and played, maybe away?

Has been in four matchday squads.
Former Tasman striker Maksym Kowal linked with a move to Canterbury.
Canterbury Utd is confirmed to appear in only two of the 18 televised Handa Premiership regular season games (NB four games to have TV coverage confirmed late in the season due to OFC Champions League schudule not being known).
One home game, one away. Piss poor. I'm not worried about the home games as I'll go to them, but would like the chance to see the Dragons play away on TV sometimes. Each club pays at least $25,000 per year for the league to be broadcast on Sky. Yet, there's a huge variation in how many games each side gets on TV.
From an insider who works for Sky TV:
"NZF give SKY the list of games they want shown each round.
I'm pretty sure there is OB vans based in the south island as they are extremely expensive to get over on the ferry so they stay down there and do a bunch of sports... racing, cricket, rugby, rugby league etc. So I don't understand the collective snubbing of the south island."

Guts to Canty, made the semis last time but don't get a telly game til after New Years. Gonna see lots of the Waitaks with 4 of 6 telly games at home. No love for Southern. Hope their homer vs WeeNix in Feb gets picked up. Also HWs get more TV games than they had wins last season
The Niche Cache @thenichecache 1:03 PM - Sep 10, 2018
Auckland - 10
Wellington - 3
Hamilton - 2
Christchurch - 1
Napier - 1
So far just one telly game broadcast from the South Island (where three teams play). Wonder how much thought went into the balance all this and how much of a say Sky had...
Coey Turipa is at Great Wakering Rovers in the Isthmian D1N

Most Dragons home games are on Sundays at 2 pm
Once again there is the usual huge gap between home games late in the season, with one month between home games between February 3 and March 3, which is the last home game of the regular season.
There is also a one month gap between home games December 9 to January 6 but that's because the league breaks for Xmas and New Year.
(Although there is a three week gap between home games early on too between November 4 and November 25)
The one televised home game is January 6 at 4.35 pm
Matchday program for today's Canterbury United Pride vs. Capital match at English Park kicking off at 1 pm:

that's because of the Oceania Champions League and is subject to change depending on what happens with that draw
Word I picked up at the Pride game from a reliable source is that the Dragons are bringing in two Aussie players and Juan Chang is gone.
Brock Messenger is also back and was at the Pride game wearing a Dragons shirt.
No Clapham again unfortunately...
And no Danny Knight in goal this summer either it seems.
Kowal, Conor Tracey and Reese Cox three more new additions.
Pathways for Canterbury footballers, huh?
With no Danny Knight, no Coey Turipa, who takes the spot between the posts do we think?

Matt Thomas from Coastal and Eddie Ashton from FC2011 are in the squad I believe.

If only Hickok was still about. Surely those 2 aren't up to National League standard. I believe Lew Gordon is in the squad as well.

The first player Willy got in touch with [a few months ago] for the starting position wearing the Number One shirt played the full winter season in midfield.
I think that shows when you want a midfielder for GK how much Willy thought of the other goalkeepers playing MPL or what.

Happy To Have Signed With Canterbury United For The New Zealand Premiership | Can’t Wait To Turbo-Charge Into The New Season!

Matt had around 10 games in goal for Coastal this season once James Hickok returned to the USA, which was in late June so all the Southern League gamrs and a couple of English Cup games.

Just thought I'd add, James Bannatyne played a lot of his football as a striker. He was a pretty good one too. He was also a damn good lock forward, but that's a different story.
Anyone know the friendly schedule?
Understand that playing (both the Dragons and the Youth team) Southern United in Timaru this Saturday.
Tthen two games in Auckland against ISPS Handa sides and hopefully a game against Tasman as well but unsure the the dates for these..

Coincidence that I'm in Timaru this weekend at the FIFA Timaru 5 a side tournament? I think not!
No Futa Nakamura, Cory Mitchell or Aaron Spain at the season opening over the weekend?
