Any reason given for Tade not starting? Glad Ryan showed up
Auckland City FC - Thanks a Trillion
I seem to recall Tasman doing the same last year - they turned up with a pretty good game plan and executed it well except for a few lapses in concentration (and probably fatigue near the end).
It looked like a stone cold penalty to me.

ISPS Handa Premiership – Auckland City field ineligible player
New Zealand Football have determined that Auckland City FC have forfeited their Round Nine match in the ISPS Handa Premiership.
The Navy Blues, who won the match 3-1 against Tasman United to go two points clear at the top of the table, have been found to have fielded Micah Lea’alafa ineligibly in the match on 17 December and forfeit the result.
Lea’alafa was not listed on Auckland City’s ISPS Handa Premiership named squad and Auckland City failed to lodge a copy of the players’ Amateur Player Agreement with New Zealand Football for the 2017-18 competition.
NZ Football found Auckland City FC in breach of Regulations 18 and 19 of the National League Regulations and therefore guilty of fielding an ineligible player and subject to the automatic penalties as determined in accordance with regulation 34 of the NZF Disciplinary Code.
The result sees Team Wellington move to the top of the ISPS Handa Premiership table. The defending champions are on 17 points after nine games, while the Navy Blues are now second on 16 points with a game in hand. Tasman United, with the three points, climb to sixth on the ladder on 13 points and into semi-final contention.
The ISPS Handa Premiership resumes on 6 January, 2018 with Round 10. [Quote]
Well done Ivan.
The ref yesterday was utterly appalling. Never a penalty; Ball hit his feet, bounced up and his his arm - he made no attempt to play it with his arm.

One of the worst refereeing displays I've seen in a while and I'm not even complaining about the scoreline. Guy was unnecessarily a bit of a dickhead to the players too
Who was it?
Matt Conger! agreed very average.
Just like the A-league ref's these guys seem to think people turn up to watch them.
Crowd in the stands started to turn on him. Everyone was shouting abuse. It was really bad.
Late challenges going in, players were pushed into the bill boards and he'd give a throw in. Appreciate it's a Derby and will be slightly more feisty, but when he did get his card out it was for minor offences.
PS if any of you lot are at a game pop over and we'll have a beer :)

Conger is an A-League ref as well
It's laughable. Conger has a poor grasp of the game at Central league level let alone any higher. He has no feel for how to control it or what amount of control it needs. There are significantly better referees in this country.

And so he ends up yellow carding every single tackle and swearing at the foreign imports like on Sunday. Never ever liked what Conger’s done
Anyone know where Ryan de Vries is off to? Just reading on stuff that he's on the verge of a deal overseas.
Good on the lad, surprised it hasn't happened sooner to be honest.

FC Gifu, a team in the Japanese 2nd division. Look like perennial strugglers, always in the bottom few teams but avoiding relegation - think de Vries is selling his ability a bit short with this move
will be a comparative league... its a start though.
Bloopikarai
there is no way that J league, 2 is a comparative league.
The nIx would not make it in that league and neither would auckland

The Nix would easily be competitive in the J1 League. The lower half of teams such as Omiya, Sendai, Niigata and Kofu are pretty trash
no way, the nIx would be competitive based upon skill.
Our best players burns and wee mac at their peak couldn't make it.
You look at all the Ausis whom have gone there over the years. Very few have been good enough to cut it at that level.

Most foreigners fail in the league due to the culture shock, difference in training, and high workload. It's why Burns failed and I'm guessing it's why Weemac failed too. Also everyone's really technical over there so Burns wasn't quite the standout that he is here. It's hy I'm really worried about de Vries moving over there, even if it is J2. Of course there are great teams like Urawa and Kashima who are probably better than Sydney but it's much more of an unbalanced league than the A-League. If we were chucked into the league I'd expect consistent bottom half finishes and relegation battles at the worst, but we'd honestly do okay

I really don't think culture shock can be called a major factor for all those Ausis whom have gone and failed.
It's not lost in translation.
Skill maybe

Rugby players don't seem to have this problem of assimilating into the culture there.
A reasonable assumption to make, but in my experience you can't compare Japanese rugby & football.
Rugby is very anglo-centric, lots of NZ/Aus/English players, and equally importantly most teams' coaching & support staff are dominated by these nations as well. The entire competition is very westernised.
Football on the other hand has very restricted foreign players (4 per team I think) and the vast majority of these slots go to Brazilians and the odd east European. Typically Japanese coaches too I think. The entire competition felt very Japanese to me, completely different feel to the rugby.
I personally think the culture shock of going from NZ (or Australia) to Japan to play football would be massive, and it would be pretty scary and lonely playing football over there if you didn't embrace the culture.
The J2 league is certainly not "ageist" - Kazoyoshi Miura, a forward at Yokohama FC just renewed his contract & he turns 51 this year !
On renewing his contract he said "I hope to give my best to the game at all times & continue to improve as a player"...good lad.
I still remember when he had his debut for Genoa in 1994 and scored his only game vs Sampdoria in the derby. Amazing stuff.

ACFC just beat Eastern Suburbs 2-0 to go on top.
The MC repeated about 6 times how Eastern Suburbs were (almost) an all kiwi team and that it was their philosophy. Someone high up at ACFC was livid about the pronunciation of some of the ACFC players' names by the MC. Pretty decent turn out as it was free entry. Moses Dyer just looked frustrated from the first minute. No chanting by the 248 service crew that I could see/hear, I didn't know they didn't do the active support thing for away games in Auckland. Tade missed an open goal inside the 6 yard box, somehow skied it, but made up for it with a brilliant free kick. ACFC deserved winners.
Quality of football was fine to watch, was my first Handy Prem game this season I could attend due to usually being at work. Although it was a nice community event, it made me appreciate the Phoenix/Fever a little more particularly to do with atmosphere creation. Overall, pleasant sunny evening, nice game of football. ACFC look to be the ones to beat.
I thought it was McCowatt who skied that sitter in front, after some magic from Micah who turned the Sacred Heart right back inside out.
His goal was also excellent, what footwork he has! Only one side in it for most of the game, and agree they look the team to beat. Another level of movement and skill to Suburbs.

Tade missed from about a yard in the 1st half, McCowatt was about 7 yards out in the 2nd. Wasn't really magic from Lea'alafa either, he was quick when the fullback was mucking around. And as for the MC, he was dreadful. Apart from terrible pronunciation, why on earth does he have to play rubbish music when there's an injury break. He actually asked an ACFC guy how to say Tribuletix, and still butchered it

Ah I forgot they have a name. Usually call them the "Auckland City Ultra's." They keep asking us to come join them. Sadly I don't have any bike pants or bucket hats and don't want to look out of place.
Appreciate their enthusiasm, but they miss the point of football chants. They're generic tunes that are intended for everyone to sing to; not just a handful of fans.

i think being called a retard by a ACFC board member was a bit much though huh?

For sure. I didn't hear that but no need for anyone to say that

248 normally show up and are loud at away games in Auckland and Hamilton but I didn't see many of them there last night I reckon the midweek thing was a factor.

A lot of their chants have nothing to do with the game either, sometimes they just sing for the sake of singing. Like when they were doing their Tade and Bilen chants even though neither of them were in the match day squad
Kris Bright is now the head of football at Auckland Grammar. Surprising move - excited to see what he can do at the world's best school, as far as I know he's still playing for ACFC
I have nothing against the 248 Crew, they're doing something similar to what we're doing in different ways, making noise and trying to create an atmosphere in a country where sport and atmosphere doesn't tend to mix.
