ISPS Handa Women's Premiership
Predictions??
Predictions??
Canterbury & Northern will be the teams to beat
I pick something like
Canterbury
Northern
Capital
Auckland
Southern
WaiBOP
Central
NWL Squads (from Andrew Voerman on Stuff)
couple of notable changes
last seasons golden boot Emma Rolston has moved to Northern from Capital
Mikela Hunt has moved from Southern to Canterbury

Macey Fraser from Canterbury to Southern
If you had to pick a W League She-Nix starting 11, based solely on the above players from the 7 NWL squads (so no Australians, and no overseas Kiwis) - what would it be?

Yes understand Macey flying into Dunedin for train with Southern late in the week, before either playing or flying out with team if an 'away' game.
Get in there watch the game on Sky Sports Now youtube channel. It's crazy how good the qulity of this free stream is compared to Sky Sport Now. I just chromecast it to my 4k screen and its better framerate than any stream I've seen in NZ other than Spark Sport.

Yes, the picture quality was very good and the commentary not bad as well.
Some quality goals from the Pride too.
You can watch the video of the whole game here:

Round 1 results
Southern 1 Canterbury 4
Northern 1 Capital 1
Auckland 9 Central 1
Livestreams for both matches stuffed up today
Surprised AFF didn't get into double figures, being up 6-0 at half time and Central down to 10
2 points lost for NFF, they were all over them in the first half but could only get one goal in, a defensive mixup right at the end led to the equalizer
great to have the games so accessible to watch.
I don't think we are blooding any future commentators unfortunately.

Hardly think the commentators have been the issue so far. Narelle (think it was her?) was great from what I saw of the Auckland stream.
Incredible contrast in quality of the streams though, first match from Dunedin was multi camera and hi-Def, genuinely looked like Sky TV footage. North Island streams by comparison very basic and streaming issues. Still, great to be able to watch them live.
ok didnt see Narelle's one.
The Cap v Nthrn feed went awol for a while

I imagine, like last year in the men’s, one game a week will get full outside broadcast with sky trucks etc. Rest will get single camera for essentially highlights.
The pitch surface at the northern lights game looked pretty rough and patchy. was anyone there, Is it as bad as what it looked like on the stream?
I believe the problem there was that the Council wouldn't let them use the #1 pitch

heard the number 1 pitch wasn't much better - blame was put down to Auckland's water restrictions - although didn;t seem to be an issue at Riverhills..........
Both Auckland v Central and Northern v Wellington livestreams appear to have been pulled from you-tube (marked as private). Given both had technical issues, I wonder if that means they were recorded correctly and are to be fixed in which case you'd wonder why they were not left up until the fixed versions were uploaded.
Ironically I missed the first goal at Riverhills and thought I'd watch it on the stream at half-time, only to discover the stream missed the first two goals!
What these live streams do is make you appreciate the effort that goes into a TV quality recording. Multiple cameras, quality cameras, panning in/out etc In the Southern v Canterbury game you can hear a director in the background mentioning camera 1, camera 2 etc.
I had a chat with Capital coach Maia Vink ahead of Capital's first home game (Sat v Southern 1pm @ Petone Memorial)

I was privileged to watch an outstanding Auckland team on English park today. Best performance I have seen from a NWL team.

Can watch the game and others on YouTube

Again two of the recorded matches have been pulled from the You-tube channel leaving the one multi-camera match remaining.

Yeah noticed that too. But stink!
I will ask NZ Football/Sky what the deal is here.
Auckland too strong for Capital there - they have some decent players in their ranks.
Cap need a new goal kick piece
How frustrating is it to see Michaela Robertson playing as No.10 rather than on the wing? You have one of the quickest/explosive players in the country so you put her in the most congested area of the park? Put her on the wing and ask teams to worry about your attack for a change. Really lucky that Waibop didn’t have their finishing boots on.
The YouTube recording of Pride v Central has drop outs for the first part of the coverage; it comes right around 6 minutes into the game (approx 10 mins into the stream).

in the current formation? or change it?
thought Capital had a good second half in trying wind conditions
Interesting results this weekend
Capital beat Central 1-0, thought they were the better team, but Central will be ruing their missed chances. Was good to see Anna Green start and also Jemma Robertson make her first appearance of the season
but big result was WaiBOP beating Northern 2-1, Auckland beat Southern 3-0 in the other game
Means this weekends Capital v Canterbury game (Saturday 11am KO @ Petone Memorial) is a massive game
Both teams need to win to have a chance of making the final, it could also be possible that whoever wins doesn't get into the final
best thing for Capital will be a win over Canterbury and then hope Canterbury beat Northern the next week
Table, points and games left
1 Auckland 12pts BYE, WaiBOP (a)
2 Capital 10pts Canterbury (h), BYE
3 Canterbury 9pts Capital (a), Northern (h)
4 Northern 7pts Central (h), Canterbury (a)
5 WaiBOP 4pts Southern (a), Auckland (h)
6 Central 1pt Northern (a), Southern (h)
7 Southern 0pts WaiBOP (h), Central (a)
Saturday's game Capital v Canterbury could see Katie Barrott make her 50th appearance for Capital
So Auckland played an ineligible player and should have been docked 9 points but hey lets not worry about that, people make mistakes..... NZF strikes again
