Spain beat Mexico 2-1 in the final by the way.
So only team NZ lost too, was tourney winners.

We did lose to Ghana... Doesn't diminish from a fantastic tournament and achievement though

Oops yes forgot about that. Did rest most of the first choice eleven for that game.
nominated for halberg sports team of year - great to see they are getting the acknowledgement they deserve.

Having just heard on the Rock FM that a 7s team won the team award, I now realise just how big a joke the Helbergs are.
The girls were the best NZ sports team of 2018 hands down and should feel robbed by this.

They did win the 1 award voted for by the public, which shows you how out of touch the judges are. Very significant for football though that they did get the people's choice vote

Yeah should have blown the team award out of the water, struggling to realise how they didn't win. At least they took home the Sporting Moment of the Year, one that I was sure they'd be less likely to win

I see the next U17 girls crop have a trip to China coming up.
Good experience for them. This, the qualifiers (not much of a battle against OFC sides for girls typically) and whatever else they come up with before India should put them on n a good place to hopefully do well in India
Good effort from the new U17 girls to come second in their mini China tournament
Squad announcement been out for a week https://www.nzfootball.co.nz/newsarticle/83488 and no comment. Must have the right regional balance then!

Credit to Leon, He does make an effort to visit the Federations and be at junior national tournaments. That is encouraging for any girls that consider themselves fringe selections but live outside of Auckland and Wellington.
News today. That the U16 qualifying tournament for next year's U17 WC, originally scheduled for September/October, and the for December, has been postponed yet again, this time due to the measles epidemic in the region.

Feel for anyone missing out due to age limits, if they're affected

that wouldn't happen. The Oceania tournament is U16 so that the team can carry onto the U17WC next year.
In the short-term, the interesting thing will be effect on NAGT. Does that mean the national players will now be able to play NAGT, or perhaps does it open up the possibility of the national squad playing games against the NAGT team that has the bye.

That's what I would do.
Probably couldn't do Central as they only arrive the day of their bye after a long drive.
